3 dollar bill y'all$ is a great fucking album. i don't care what you think about the other albums, i'm not a huge fan either. end of story.

conformity is your enemy!

i dont hate on limp bizkit cause its the cool thing to do, i really never liked them. i have listened to most of the LB albums because i give all bands a chance. I really made that comment in jest, but srsly all those bands were never good to me

chino's a sock person

you know, technically, that means they're selling out...

by definition 'selling out' is 'using music to make money, at which point your music becomes impure'... and since bands can't really NOT sell cds anymore, cd selling is overlooked... even tshirt selling upto a certain extent...

but i remember maynard saying puscifer is "as much a clothing line as it is a band"

fucking sellouts!

i loved st. anger. it's not old metallica, sure... but it's a good album...

and i'm going to say now what i say to almost all "true" metallica fans... if you want to listen to another kill 'em all, just listen to kill 'em all. it makes more sense...

and load/reload?! come on man...

I do like their old stuff from the golden era from 1983 through 1989 and I do like Load and Reload and St Anger is such a shit LOL !! Everyone agrees with that.

I have to say I agree. all those, except for Spice Girls, are some of my own most hated bands ever.
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep

how the hell did red hot chili peppers fall off?

by the way wasn't typical rhcp, true (was still great imo, but whatever) ... but stadium arcadium? what's wrong with that?

theis

i think it's terribly mediocre and uninspired. definitely their weakest effort.

i'm not a fan at all of their newer albums. i only really enjoy Mother's Milk and Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik.

kalhan

actually, the reason by the way "sucked" was because they were way too inspired at the time (so to speak)

cabron because of guitar work inspired by siouxsie and the banshees (frusciante) and mexican folk music (keidis)
dozed, also contains guitar work inspired by siouxsie and the banshees for frusciante
by the way by velvet underground's music
throw away your television because frusciante was again, inspired by kraftwerk

that's all i can remember off the top of my head.

i think i get the point there anyway, if you do enjoy mothers' milk, then it's natural for you to dislike the chili peppers... that was a forced effort from their side, not by the way. what's missing in btw is flea... i can't hear him.

Blood Sugar Sex Magic was their best album...I still have the cd from when it came out when I was in middle school...many...MANY years ago. haha

System of a Down (though I still like)

Battle-Axe

^ Oooh I have to second SOAD there, too.

I used to worship them in my early teens and even though there are some killer tracks on Mez/Hyp [BYOB, Question!, Dreaming etc.]... it's just not the same listening to those guys anymore. I had hours of live videos of them on my old computer with all their face paint on and their "we don't give a shit what a single person thinks" attitude about em. When I finally saw them live in 2005 for the Mezmerize tour, they all had suits on and shit and they didn't have much stage presence at all compared to back in the day.

Of course at the time it was the shit cos they were my favourite band and all and I was like 15/16, but looking back, those guys could've done a whole lot better IMO. That's not to say I want another self titled or Toxicity-esque album, I just feel they lost their touch a little.

kalhan

system of a down i liked, their first three albums were nice, although i dislike toxicity because some tracks there  have really crappy tunes (jet pilot) and if you listen to "toxicity" and "chop suey" as much as i have, you'll begin to loathe them. just like pop songs.

there are some tracks off these three albums that are extremely under-rated and ones i listen to till date (darts, know, soil, war)

they killed it with hypnotize/mezmerize... they should've stopped two albums ago, they did write a few good tunes on these albums but it was just formulated crap, scream here, loud riff here, out of key shriek there.

system of a down is a band that did fall off

This seems to happen a lot to bands that were good then cross over to the mainstream - as two people have already said Lostprophets is a good example. They just become pedestrian/mediocre after that. My own example, but less mainstream - Weezer. Everything after the Green Album/Maladroit is shat.

weezer has always been mainstream.  i was 13-14 when the blue album came out and i remember buddy holly getting MAJOR radio and mtv airplay.

i think in the cases of bands like deftones and weezer, they dont fall off.  they just set a bar so high for themselves early in their careers that it is impossible to reach again.  weezer's blue album and pinkerton and deftones adrenaline, ATF, and white pony are as close to perfection as any band can get.  now all the fans want another pinkerton or ATF and it's never going to fucking happen.

with bands that have reached perfection at some point early in their careers, i find it's best to just appreciate that your beloved bands are still around and even though their new shit isn't half as good as it once was, be greatful that they still show occasional moments of brilliance and continue to TOUR!

songs like the angel and the one, or kimdracula are still better than 99% of the feces thrown at us on a daily basis by the record industry monkeys nowdays.  i guess i'm content with that.

kalhan

in the end, it's just a matter of conforming to musical standards set by your record label

record labels pressurize their artists to write something more contemporary so they'll have a wider audience and more record sales. that happened when white pony went platinum, till then maverick wouldn't bug them to put out records real quick. but it happened after white pony, why do you think "back to school" was even written? it's by far the worst deftones song, and co-incidentally it was meant to reach mtv and radio channels. i can put money on the fact that deftones would've preferred white pony being less successful than it was, even thought they made a lot of money.

same goes for all bands that do "fall off"... record label pressure... think about metallica now. success is your enemy.

sixner

Sevendust, but i'm hoping to see a sort of comeback with the return of the origional guitarist.
