so im starting a thread for bands that were good then inexplicably turned to shit. Im not talking about bands that stuck around too long (im looking at you rolling stones). the idea came to me when i heard an OLD goo goo dolls song on the radio today. I had forgotten that used to actually be decent (surprisingly). another band that i used to like but really gets under my craw is cave in. their first few releases (particulary beyond hypothermia and until your heart stops) were really good. but now they are shit. what are some other bands that started to suck out of nowhere?

deftones definitely fell off you little fan boys i love deftones as much as the next guy but seriously most of the songs on SNW are boring and repetitive and chinos vocals and ideas for his lyrics arent what they used to be

The Deftones have NOT fallen off.  They're one of the few bands that has consistently put out solid material.  Even S/T, which I thought was really disappointing, is still a great album.

I'm a little worried about Dredg.  Leitmotief and el Cielo are both epic, but CWA was really disappointing.  And from what I've heard, their new stuff isn't very exciting.

Lostprophets definitely - thefakesoundofprogress was an awesome album. Saw them live about 4 1/2 years ago when Start Something dropped and it was a pretty fucking good show. Then came Liberation Transmission... ¬__¬

This seems to happen a lot to bands that were good then cross over to the mainstream - as two people have already said Lostprophets is a good example. They just become pedestrian/mediocre after that. My own example, but less mainstream - Weezer. Everything after the Green Album/Maladroit is shat.
