I think you missed the point of my post.  Half the board bitches that "emo" music sucks.  Yet... when I looked online for what exactly "emo" music is... it's some of the stuff I listened to... and EVEN the DEFTONES... so I wanted clarification.       I wanted to know what others thought.   Simple enough.

the funny thing in relation to the emo argument is...ppl have this notion of what "Goths" are.  75% of what ppl call Goths are nothing close to it.  Its like "you wear black, you're goth!"  So now you have a large younger crowd who wear black, and because of how music has evolved since the mid 90's, they are whining overally dramatic emotional little shits that has the rest of the world calling them "emo goths" or whatever.

I can only wonder how many ppl that I didn't know in high school secretly called me goth because I wore all black all the time, with metal shirts and colored hair.  When I was never into gothic shit, or had any other relation to it.  Other than a friend of mine who was actually goth, into black metal, writings, art, the look, blah blah blah.

hilarity ensues. 

there's too many bands that are ruining good music by being trendy, fashion oriented, involving a lot of fake attitudes, and trying to play some form of rock and labeling it punk, which to me is such a travesty.

Wtf.  I'm down with marches and protests when it actually supports something worth people's attention  But emo?  What the fuck are they standing up for, wearing pink eye liner and black finger nail polish?  That's ridiculous.  Equality and respect is ideal but the reality is they're in high school and everyone only gives a shit about themselves.  Part of growing up is learning to be yourself not forcing others to care.

being goth has nothing to do with listening to black metal. actually, the "old" goths pretty much despise metal in general.

this thread is not about the music but i have to mention this. every kid out there belongs to some trend or some scene in some way. even if you refuse to dress like a particular scene, you are in the scene of those whou refuse. often enough you end like a hippie then.

True...trends are pretty much unavoidable either in music or fashion but that does'nt mean people can't mock the crap out of them for a laugh.

I mean, look at the 80's.

It's people who fail to be able to laugh at themselves or others and take offense that have the issue imo.When I was a metal kid wearing nothing but Metallica and Pantera shirts with black jeans and Chucks I got crap all the time but laughed it off and did'nt care.So did my goth, punk, skater, hip-hop, etc, etc mates.
