I saw a documentary once about Asian men moving to Dubai to work there and support their families. Horrible pay and treatment and a huge communication problem. But hey, at least it looks cool!

most of these buildings already exist. especially the islands are sth worth seeing.

however, the skyscrapers are new ideas. some of them look like the tower of babel.

Dubai is a great example of what a country in the middle east can become when they pull their heads out of their asses.  However those artificial islands really fucked up the eco system out there.  Pretty fucked up really.

I don't mean to sound rude, but just because Dubai can boast a ton of shiny buildings doesn't imply that its head is out of its ass. The Arab culture and predominant presence of Islam is still there (which isn't to imply, whatsoever, that's the equivalent of having your head up your ass). The only real thing that differentiates Dubai from any other country in the Middle East is that it's become a haven for international trade and business; the sole purpose is to bring in money for a relatively small population of 1,000,000. And plus, the idea of making a business/travel mecca (no pun intended) in the Middle East isn't new; there were exact plans to do this in the island of Kish off the coast of Iran before the revolution, but after the revolution, plans were scrapped and exchanged for Dubai.

And plus, it's too damn hot there.
