I'm pretty sure Saturday Night Wrist did that.

What a sexy, sensual record with whip cream on top. I'm touched to see the band finally get down on their knees and satisfy all their fans.

976-Evil song and intro + Sextape chorus = CRY

pony_01

976-evil seems like a 'goodbye goodfriend in the afternoon with the sunsets' song

976 reminds me of smashing pumpkins man, which by the way is fucking good, i really like Deftones new direction

i can't help but wonder why they picked the two songs they did for pre-release, the other songs have much more depth in my opinion

Diamond Eyes and Rockets are most stand-out  trax with distinctive chorses.

did anyone notice that there are scream on 976 EVIL at 3:24 - 3:30?
it really not like chino's scream. it like somebody on "Caviar" by dance gavin dance scream on it.

My review of Diamond Eyes:

Starts off with the title track Diamond eyes which is basically a mini preview of whats to come in this album. The song is very melodic, it starts off with a very muddy riff. Then transitions quickly into the chorus. Effects and guiatrs slowly fill in the song and ends with typical Deftones style, a sludgy Steph guitar Riff.

Second song Royal enters with a wicked riff ala Will Haven and then a soothing verse with Chino singing in two different tones. Then enters into a classic Chorus. The music gets very atmospheric near the middle with a crazy Abe bridge and ends with the original riff and a deadly Chino scream.

CMD/CNTR just slaps you in the face, where has this been the last 10 years? It's like Street carp and Engine # 9 had a baby during the mid 90's that no one knew about. Switching command just because I can.

You've Seen The Butcher is something the I've never really heard the band do, very atmospheric drumming and guitar riff that turns into a very TOOL like song. Very sexy bass riff in the chorus. Chinos voice just explodes and then groves.

Beauty School starts off and you know it's going to be soft, but once the initial guitar kicks in you're hooked. The chorus is a bit drawn out but overall it will get the girls all wet.

Prince begins with abe frank and sergio making atmosphere and then turns into this grunge chorus that has you singing along... mindset of a killer. The song evolves more than what I first thought and gets pretty rough. Should be the next single.

Rocket skates - Not going to review this song, I like everything except the chorus.

Sextape - very slow calming song, feels like Radiohead with a digital bath esque chorus. One of the weaker tracks for me, a little to whiney in Chino's voice. A nightime song forsure very sensual.

Risk - Hits hard, makes you feel alive right away, then soothes you with the chorus. Again not one of my favorites but still better than most of the last two albums.

976-Evil - Can be a sad song or an uplifting song, depends on your mood. Makes you feel like cruising around on a nice day. The chorus reminds me of moana, which is a good thing.

This place is Death - Another sexy nighttime song but not slow, feels very distant. Feels like a climax not an ending though. :)

where is the collab with M83 anyway??

i think this is abe's finest work to date, so many styles, he's really bought it all together, the production on the recording is also 10 times better than that of ST or SNW, the snare doesn't have that thick muddy sound anymore. in love with this album, ill shut up now.

The production on s/t was fine, should have had lovers on there though.

When they play Beauty School live I see chino playing guitar.

Ok, some items i'd like to note about this:

_Surprisingly 8 strings them fits them nicely!! I preffer it to the 7stringed 'tones.
_Not much Sergio's prescence is felt on many tracks, that's rare. But when the guys gets off the guitar's line he drops some gold. Still eternally thankfull for all he did for the deftones.
_Is this records production the most original it ever had? It really doesn't sound like any other record avaliable right now. Some ahead-of-its-time arrangments and sounds.
_sextape is Smashing pumpkins influenced. I LOVE that track, really heartful. On the other side of the spectre, RS is the heavy beast of the album.

im impressed that nobody has touch the issue of  "selling out". we can agree that the straight up pop forwardness of some this songs, could be interpreted as a sign.

i guess we all pretty mature by now.

I'm glad "selling out" has not been brought up. It isn't 1999 anymore. Plus, this album just does not have that feel. It just sounds like a deftones album to me.

This album is amazing, i havent stopped listening to it and wont for the next 2 months, as i do with every deftones album, minus b-sides and rarities since all hardcore fans basically had every song on there already.... I read in an interview that chino was gonna be less cryptic and definitly the most forward lyrics to date if you ask me, not that he still doesn't speak in tounges but i noticed right away the difference... and its by far the most layers and different sounds we've ever heard from them... the album really flows though, it feels like a journey every time!!!

Yozay!
