rocket skates is definitely my least favorite, and I dont think its because its "old", cause I never really liked it

this album explains exactly where i am in my life. fits perfectly. lately i've been having extra troubles with my chronic depression and severe social anxiety and i'm able to relax for once in my life. deftones always make me feel a little less alone in the world and like i can relate to someone or something. its really special. probably why they've been my favorite band for so long. this music is therapy without the judgement i usually got from my countless therapists.

i feel the same way man.  the deftones have always been an escape for me.  their music brings me a ton of happiness. i'll always have this album to throw on after having a bad day.  I completely loose track of time and stop caring about all the bullshit thats bothering me when im listening to this album.

pffft. rocket skates pwns. if i had to pick a least favorite it'd probably be diamond eyes or you've seen the buther but both of those are awesome songs.

There Will Be Blood

I can't say what my least favorite is...... Risk sounds a little too mainstream to me.... lol But hey I like it.    I like it ALL!!!

Every band member just kills it on this record.  The outro to Beauty School gives me chills every time.
AGREED!

pony_01

just realized, there's no techno tracks anymore :D
they usually put one techno song into the album
WP = Teenager
ST = Lucky You
SNW = Pink Cellphone

I felt  that this album would be the culmination of all the sounds and emotions they ever put into their music...
with all that's happened with Chi, I knew if they decided to put out a record while he recovers it would be mind blowing

and its just that

I know we gotta have the art fags, noobs and music snobs always come in and give their 35 cents about whats wrong with what they heard ....and that's fine...... but this album is the most soulful , heart felt, brutal and beautiful sound Ive ever heard this band produce

its sad that Chi wasnt able to be part of this masterpiece ( im sure they took some grooves and vibes from the eros sessions that he wrote / liked and Sergio put his heart in that shit  )  but we all know for a fact he was the driving force behind it

this is my favorite album by this band definitively

1+ Awesome post man.

And I totally agree, in a funny way, Chi had the most input on this album. Because like you said, he's the driving force behind it and they're all tighter now because of Chi's situation and I know a lot of us fans have Chi in mind whilst listening to it. It's a very powerful and positive thing man.

Why is there no 976-EVIL love!? I think the chorus makes me want to cry haha it's amazing. I love how songs slowly standout to you after 20 odd listens. The songs really come alive..

In my mind for visuals to put this into concept, im thinking of the movie "lost in translation". Chino said he feels the album has a real night time vibe about it, and i think of the shots from inside the moving car of the bright night time streets if Tokyo in the film fit this album well. The soundtrack for that film also has the same mood for Diamond Eyes like the My Bloody Valentine track "sometimes". I also get a Smashing Pumpkins vibe from the music which i associate with sleepy city nights.

Im being as open minded as i can with this album. I was expecting something as tight as White Pony, but now im making my own connotations and realising i can only make of it what it is. It's more of a rock album than previous releases which i'd class as metal. It's alot more experimental which Chino has also stated. M83 vibe for "This Place Is Death" and have again always associated them to late night city drives.

Anyone else feel this?

snw is not metal at all...except maybe for rapture

Yeah leaving SNW out

deftones86

that opening riff in Risk is pretty nasty i like it.

im starting to get this place is death. at first i thought of it as kind of mediocre, but it really is an awesome closer

Moz

Yeah I didn't really have an opinion about Risk, 976-Evil and This Place is Death after the first few listens but I knew they would grow on me.

They have now.

Risk is def. a throwback to Adrenaline, I love that. The guitar sound is so Adrenaline.

976-Evil is pure emotion, so beautiful.

Agree with that totally, btw good to hear from you Moz, bloody long time!

new deftones stuff always makes me come back ;)

I dunno man I think Ive listened to it about 15 times now through this weekend and it's SUCH a good record. It's their third classic (for me). It stands tall and proud next to ATF and WP. I'm so happy this band can still touch me the way they do.

poisonwell

Maybe just the leaked version i got but if you listen to "You've Seen The Butcher" at 0:43 and 0:46-0:48 you can hear google message alerts ;D

SomeOf

I think exactly the same things than Vesanic.

My favorites are:

CMND/CTRL (soooooo perfect! this song makes me crazy!)
This Place Is Death (very beautiful and ambient)
976 Evil (OMG this chorus! so sad and powerful!)
Prince (so original and Chino screams are sooo good)
Royal/Risk ( so "Deftones")

The others...

Diamond Eyes (lol sorry but i just can't! - but the end is crazy-)
You've Seen The Butcher (interesting but that's all)
Beauty School (like the verse but not the rest)
Rocket Skates (not a fan but I think it's gonna be a killer track in live)
Sextape (well... no emotion for me on this one and I hate the chorus)

Very good record but these guys can do so much better, especially Chino. This is my personal opinion.

nineteenpeoplesnames

That instrumental bit in the teaser 2 video made me like Diamond Eyes more.

Yeah I am pretty happy with it too, this and Biffy Clyro's latest are my favorite records at the moment.

glassdomino

Prince and Sextape are skippable for me.

CMND/CTRL, YSTB, This Place is Death, and Beauty School are my favs.
