What I'm trying to say is that I totally love this sound, it's original, fresh, etc, but the deftones roots seem very far away from that record to me. And I don't know if it's a good thing. But, and I insist, I still think it's an excellent musical piece.

I get what you mean, but as you said earlier, you can hear a lotta similarities frm their past music. I think it's just because it's a new album after quite a while. They've grown, so, that happens.

I'm extremely impressed by this album. it's amazing from start to finish and I'm loving every song. this is the only Deftones album other than WP that has stuck with me right away and hasn't had to grow on me. best song at the moment is Sextape, which is a perfect example of how Deftones can do something completely new and still make it sound like Deftones. finally, big thumbs up to both Chino (who's vocals are top notch and much better than the last two albums) and Frank (who is really coming into his own and adds so much texture to the songs).

What a great fucking record!!!!!!! 2 months only and the Tones created someting agressive, spacey and dinamic! 11 songs that blew me away! no fillers here! And yeah I agree when people say they stepped up, they are on a whole different level right now, upgraded Deftones!

Every time I listen to this album I dig it more.  Right now I have it right about on par with White Pony.  It may very well surpass it for me personally, but it's too early to judge as my impression is still being formed.  Chinos vocals are stronger on this album than they've been in a decade.  The heavy tracks are tight and well structured, unlike Rapture and Rats!.  The melodic tracks are equally ambient as anything on WP, if not more.  As some have said, there are some glaring similarities with Prince and RX Queen, but to me Prince is the Dai The Flu of this album, just in the emotional sense and in the way that the song evolves.  It's definitely not their best work, but my expectations didn't even sniff their best work.  Diamond eyes is pretty fucking impressive.

I think no matter if we like the change or not, deftones completely reinveinted on this record, kinda the same that happened with the pony.

I also love that bit in Beauty School where he sings "take the phone in your room" and it has the effect of speaking on a phone backing it. Brilliant.
