What's with the rumbling truck engine sounds in this song? Strangely, it adds to it.

and which deftones album has sold the most again?
what's the point ? Steph wasn,t happy with the changes from what i read, but the disk company never made any pressure for this kind of song, mostly chino wanting to write softer and catchier tune. i'm sure he loves all of them and probably prefer them from the more heavy tune like Elite, which sounds like it was written to make Steph happy.

but that's how i see it.

im just saying that there is a connection between easy listening songs and the benjamins (well duh) and that they are going for it with this choice of a single

yes now i agree with you, but i won't agree if you say deftones wrote it with this in mind.

deftones+producer+label: they are a team, and that team have a goal in the end - to sell records. they try to sell records by advertising, and that advertasing is by singles n videos.its not the demo where hearing, its the final product of a song, and many people have touched it since it was regarded as the single to make it even more of a single

Wow. I used to come to post on this board back in the day, with a diff username. It has not changed. Deftones fans are just the most critical of all.

I just want to point out that the people who make explanations such as "oh this song is so not deftones," just need to realize that they are not in the band. The band chooses who they are, and where they will take themselves musically. Deftones is known to be a pretty experimental art rock type of band. It's all about getting the weirdest sounds, and this sound is pretty fucking weird ... and it's grand.

Expect to go back on your word within the next few months because I know all of you are gonna start posting "oh wow I GET IT NOW, this is some GREAT shit, and I love it." Which is okay, because that's why we are deftones fans. They are our number one team, and we will always continuously question and understand their music at different stages in our lives.

Also to the people that say this stuff is mainstream...and on purpose - can you just shut it. I don't think Chino sits down and is like ... oh let's make more mainstream music so I can please the world. Man, he's like one of the most self-indulgent musicians out there. The guy does not fucking care if his music makes mainstream or not. You think he was trying for that when he wrote White Pony? WRONG, the band got together and just laid some tracks down, and it happened to make some mainstreamers happy. They just make music ... and then people try to categorize it in the worst ways possible.

Next topic.

Everyone has been posting how these new songs are like White Pony and Around the Fur put together. I totally agree. You can almost feel the clash of the two albums. Sometimes I kind of get frustrated because it's a constant battle with Chino's melody versus Steph's anger. It's dynamic as fuck, but the songs aren't long enough for me to climax. I do enjoy the Finger of Death vibe in Diamond Eyes (Fuck that song needs to be studio released).

Oh and to end this post. Does anyone agree that this album could actually claim the name "Black Stallion"? It's a dark shade of white pony for sure.

The two songs I've heard sound nothing like Around the Fur or White Pony. It's a bunch of downtuned guitars in the same vein of S/T and SNW. Those are just a bunch of wishful thinking people trying to capture the past. The deftones will never make another White Pony or ATF. If you took Rocket Skates and put it on ATF, it would be totally out of place. Different tuning, different singing and feel. I'd suspect that all of the songs are going to be similar.

naw, i still dont agree, they made Hexagram and bloody cape a single for f sake instead of a more radio friendly one like deathblow for s/t. i think the bands has a big enough following so the disk company mostly give them carte blanche and i'm pretty sure the label don't interfere with the writing and recording process, they get the result and choose the song that they think might reach new fans to expend, but they don,t force the band to spew bullshit they are not into for the benjamins and change song structure to make them more accessible. we are not talking about britney spears and i'm pretty sure deftones wouldnt tolerate that.

but thats me, i might be naive.

i actually don't want a new white pony or ATF, but if it sounds a lil bit like s/t i'm all for it lol. we are in 2010, not in 1998. But come on, i really can hear a ATF vibe from Rocket Skates.

some like the song, some dont like it,some love it, same hate it.nuthin strange bout that. but...  everyone seems to agree on one thing: that it IS quite radio friendly and mainstream sounding.and im afraid u cant change the fact that people feel so, and why should u.
finger of death is prob my favourite deftones song but that song is full of agony and misery, and the whay he sings..man,youre concerned he might commit suicide. chino said it had too many parts thrown together and didnt flow right... to compre that to DE, a song with few parts and the singing is like a lullaby for a baby.. i cant see the resemblance...but hey, both good songs,
in their own way

i said more radio friendly....
the emphasis is on the word more

Inkblades

I disagree. Hexagram wasn't gonna get them any new fans but I think it satisfied the diehards. Deathblow is too slow, moody and plodding for radio.

and hexagram is too *say any word that defines hexagram* for the radio...what's the point. in my opinion, hexagram was simply the less likely song to make the single cut lol.
anyway its a useless argument.

lets talk about how diamond eyes rock :P

Nah, m1nusblindfoLd i'll guess.
And even if I could understand m1nusblindfoLd's complaints, i'll go with MxKnife. These albums will always be there, i'm ready to hear something completely new.
Quote from: MxKnife on Mar 16, 2010, 06:51 PM
Dude with the "classic deftones sound vagina" shut the fuck up. If you don't like ther new stuff just stick the first four albums. Quit bitchin cuz they move on and your obviously are stuck in the past.

That was mean, fyihyd

Nah, wasn't meant to be mean. Like i've said, I totally feel your complaints, man. The sound of the guitar just sounds too darn dark and too chunky, it almost feels like a robot plays it. Woop, ok, that description nails it for me. Whereas on the first 4 albums you hear and feel steph is playing, it's getting harder and harder with every album to hear him actually playing the guitar. The first sign for me was Rats!Rats!Rats and now he has almost lost his complete identity. He just sounds fucking cold and computer-like now. And that's the main difference for me between songs like Engine No.9 or Headup and RS. On Headup you can almost hear the rage and anger, but on RS and DE you hear just heavy guitars. You know, i'll guess it has nothing to do with what he's playing, it's just about the sound and how it's produced.
BUT, i'm totally fine with it. Yes, he totally lost the identity of the previous tunes, but i'm fucking ready for something completely different. And it's not that different anyway, it just sounds tighter than ever, the dynamics are still there and that's why I love them. And I know you just wanted to point out your concerns/thoughts/feelings about that guitar-issue, and that was totally fine with me. I'm not sure, but you like the new tunes anyway, right?
So... are we cool again, bro? :)

PS: I know my english sucks btw. I'm just too fucking tired atm. Hope you can still understand it nevertheless.
