It would be cool to see somme reggae shit like they've done on " Answers " or " Hop Burg Hop " ( if that's the correct title ? ), but I'm sure they won't include some.

Hidalgo

Totally.

Am I the only one to think that the chorus of Hop Burg Hop sounds like Cranberries ?

hoburg hop, answers and that reggae stuff is like their first stumbeling steps as a band, they were like bambi on ice.
now that they are the fully grown deer as a band,no need to go back to that baby step period.thats ridicouls

Might be their first steps, but still, these songs are excellent tracks, to me, and I don't see why it would be ridiculous to hear some more unexpected influences. A band can always try new stuff, even after 20years.

???  how can it be "new" when they did that style 20 years ago ?

'Cause by " unexpected influences ", I don't only include the reggae thing they had 20years ago.

if they started playing reggae again, i would consider it to be "doing something old" insted of " something new" because they already did it a long time ago.

btw, i checked an interview with cranberries... they got a question of which their biggest influences was.. they said "the hoburg hop demo song by deftones is pretty much the only influence we got. we wouldnt start playing if it werent for that track.thanks deftones" they said

"new" influences would be cool,
but i for one still never got my fill of ATF style material.
it's the album i go back to and love the most (am i alone here?).
more "mature" than adrenaline but still totally raw, with KILLER grooves, and just such a cohesive sound (with the possible exception of Soulfly, which although i still think is great, is my least favorite on the album)

the reason i mention this is that i seem to remember reading ages ago that between ATF and WP the 'tones wrote alot of stuff that went right in the dumpster cuz it sounded too much like the previous. also i would imagine that in the studio while recording ATF there were other great tracks that didn't make the album, for example, two that we know of are Can't Even Breathe, and the ill-fated (never "finished") "Bumble D.

don't get me wrong, i know they always wanna move forward, and that's def. a good thing, otherwise we might not have WP etc., and i honestly love their entire catalogue,
but i wish they had recorded THAT stuff, at THAT time, with Terry Date, and with Chino's vocals ALMOST at prime but still raw and uncut. SORRY TO RANT, I'M A NOOB  (pent-up first post)

it's interesting how everyone is looking back on the other records without ever looking forward to something new. I mean, everyone's like - wow this sounds like self-titled/ATF/WP/Ad etc etc, but never, you know - wow, this sounds like Diamond Eyes.

I'm pretty sure this album will sound nothing like the previous albums.
The band has to progress anyway..

nineteenpeoplesnames

It's been the same since the old days with the same old discussions about any band. It never tires out but people insist on talking about the same old shite (including me).

It's part of the process of liking a band.

Personally, I couldn't think of anything worse or possibly horrific than hearing ATF 2 or WP 2 or whatever. They have their time and are still there if you want to hear stuff like ATF or WP etc.

Good thing about Diamond Eyes is that I have no idea how it will sound. Same goes with their previous albums.

nice first post
thanx rock_n_frost

and LOSTPILOT, i'm sure you weren't referring just to me, but i agree, the band has to progress. as everyone knows, of course they WILL progress, they're the Deftones. it's what they do.
but it's only natural to either compare old and new, or just wax poetic about the old.
to me it seems impossible not to look back on things i love with fondness, like ALL the Deftones records, ATF in particular.....
BTW way of course this record will be nothing like the previous, they don't like to repeat themselves, and i wouldn't want them to.....if you WERE replying in any way to my post, you must not have read it close enough.
also do you REALLY think that "EVERYONE is looking back on the other records without EVER looking forward to something new"???
I'M pretty sure that most of us on here are waiting on needles and pins for Diamond Eyes.....which will probably sound like.......i dunno.....Diamond Eyes..............................(or Ted Nugent).

yeah, they are still there, however as i mentioned, there was other material written during the process of those albums, and i don't see whats wrong with wanting it to see the light of day.......
I WAS NOT REFERRING IN ANY WAY TO THE DEFTONES WRITING A NEW ALBUM THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN OLD ONE.
which again should have been apparent to anyone that actually read and UNDERSTOOD MY POST.
i'll say THIS clearly, as to avoid anymore misunderstandings:
i don't like post critics talking down to or about people writing about that which they feel passionate, or inclined to express.
anyone who continues to do so should attach a colostomy bag to their mouths, there's "shite" leaking out.........
