A friend of mine in Sacramento messaged me the following information regarding the new album, this is what he has heard about it:

"The new album will have longer songs, think 6 minutes or more, guitar solos, even more synth/keys/fx from Frank, lyrically will be more straightforward rather than cryptic, there will be more complex song structures, more guitar from chino, and faster drums (more double bass). Chi got a 6 string bass he's using on most songs and a fretless 5 string. Steph is using a new custom 8 string baritone guitar. Chino is using a lot of FX on his guitar parts so it doesn't even really sound like guitar that much.

Songs are coming fast and the album might even be put out by the end of 2008"

- i really really dont like guitar solos..thanx deftones to not do dat.............i prefer drum solos.....

no way, i think the double pedal would be awesome. i dont mean in that machine gun death metal way, but for fills it would be teh shite

Abe uses a double bass pedal and he uses it for fills. you hear those really quick bass drum beats before the snare, in for example Dai The Flu? that's him using a double pedal. it can be done without one, but it is a lot easier with one and he's said that he has spoiled himself a bit with it.

yeah, before I started using a double pedal I always did such things with one foot. I was great at it because I did it all the damn time. but then I got the double pedal and now I just can't do it anymore. doesn't really matter though, I always use the double pedal when I play.

i dont see it happening, i thought maybe it would by how Steph was talking about wantin to do leads (& sol invicto he does them, & that "i feel fine" beatles cover solo, etc), but after hearing melanie i no longer think he will. i mean if he doesnt bust out a solo in a heavy song like that when would he?(my guess, never in deftones) it was the perfect opportunity to do whatever he wanted, & nothing, just his normal riffs. nothing out of the ordinary for him whatsoever...
