its just small minded to criticize Americans for what they're government does.  Im from New Orleans and know a thing or two about how shitty our leaders can be but at the same time the individuals in the country arnt to blame the same way as i wouldnt blame everybody in Turkey for the genocide they commited against the kurds.  Its ignorance to "hate" a country for things that its government does.  I live in Taiwan right now and have first hand knowledge of  the "other" side of the world and its obvious that we are all individuals, some more malleable (or stupid) than others, but all makers of our own choices (cept slaves i guess).  The government here (Taiwan)  can be pretty fucked up and corrupt too but i dont hear anyone talkin shit about Taiwan or China or 100 other countries that commit similiar atrocities as America (albeit on a smaller scale).  Its just because America is on top and is a target,   Jealousy is a stinky cologne

its not arrogant to point out the obvious consensus.  Sure the US is in recession and has gone south a bit since George W got in but no one can deny that America either was/is the most powerful country in the world or damn near for almost 100 years.  Sure i have pride in my country but im not close minded either and see and respect all of the other world powers, and wouldnt say America is the "best" because thats arbitrary and relative and impossible to determine.  So why exactly would i deserve "shit"  for saying America is/was on top (or has been for a long time) and thats a big reason we get backlash.  Its a common theme throughout history.  Everyone is vying for the top and whoevers currently there gets critized

But to add a little bit to what you were just saying.  The united states may be in an economic recession.  However we are still the worlds military powerhouse.  We have been since the fall of the soviet union.  I know china is coming on like gang busters.  But their navy is no where near the strength of ours.  So they can have as many in their army as they want.  If they cant transport them over the ocean , they are useless.  Remember that we did do tremendous things during the great depression.  I agree that the US is no where near as prestigious as we used to be.  But that's not to say we wont ever get our luster back.

plus if you look at the US's GDP and consumption power we dwarf whole continents. 

But on the other hand, after living abroad for a while i have changed my worldview a bit, in that now i do realize (truly) that America is just one country in a big world.  Growing up there you do sort of get fed some subversive ethnocentric bullshit, until you almost (in a doublethink kind of way) believe that America is the Earth and everybody else is here to serve us.  You dont realize til you leave or reach a certain point of enlightment that Americans are told "This is the Greatest Country in the World" their whole lives, until you honestly could never fathom of a place as perfect as America

Their are only 10 nuclear powered aircraft carriers in the entire world.  The US has 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10.  All 10 of them, that is a tremendous amount of power.  We have 12 carriers all together.
