I also know where Japan is.  Seeing as how I live in Japan.  I also have a general idea where China is because that is where my sister lives.  Oh yeah an I can pretty much tell you where most other countries in the world are because believe it or not, I have looked at a map once or twice before.

Its not like every other country in the world has the geography of the world imbedded into their brains.  And if you asked them to point on a blank map where Iowa is, I doubt they would get it.  You should remember that one or two states in the US is about the size of your average country in the world.
