Im sick of this emo bashing.
Its goth-pop-punk.
Every single band on this planet is emo. How can music not be emotional? britney Spears is emo, but K-fed isn't...he's just crap
i feel what u're saying but britney spears is NOT emo.
How is she not emo? Doesn't she put emotion into her songs? Doesn't she sing about relationships and hurt?

Swords

ok... EMO is short for "emotional".  most pop stars that don't write their own songs just can't be emo because there is not real feeling/emotion there at all.  BUT there are alot of bands that i think are pretty fucking terrible that could probably be called emo because they put actual feelng and emotion into their music.

Yeah I get what u're saying too Tension...A large majority of songs have emotional content. Although that's like saying that all mainstream music is POP because it's short for "Popular"...which isn't the case.

Swords

true... emotional content.  but if they didn't write it, then how can they be expressing those real emotions?  don't get me wrong, i've heard some pretty emotional cover songs but in my opinion, most "pop stars" are just going through the motions.  i just don't really believe what britney spears or ashlee simpso are saying most of the time.

Yeah, they're just selling records for the f**k of it. I agree with u swords, about not writing the songs, it doesn't come from the "artists" haha...Either way, there is a certain genre that can be defined as Emo...whatever that is I know I don't like it.

Just because someone doesn't write something doesn't mean that they can't put their souls into it.

Christine Aguleria (or whatever her name is) doesn't write her own songs, but she can sing and puts everything into it.

I totally see your view and I do agree to certain point. But when you are on stage playing, it doesn't matter what your singing...its emotional for you.

I still remember when White Pony came out and it was labeled as emo!!!!

I admit I do quite like some 'emo' bands. I quite like MCR and Taking Back Sunday .

Sleep

I understand what you mean, man.

Take Christina Aguilara vs. MCR for instance, there is a difference in genre, is all I'm saying.  Music is art, and art is the conveyance of emotions and thoughts.

Now only one question remains...is all music art? IMO, no. Especially whiny, teen-angst bands that propel their music by helping depressed kids relate to them.  There's nothing wrong with that, I just personally don't like it.

i totally agree.

christina puts alot of emotion into what she's singing.  i wasn't talking about ALL pop stars but most of the 1nes i see and hear.

and yea, EMO seems to be the new insult, like "they sold out and became EMO" or whatever.  it's stupid.  it's like unless it's like death metal or old punk rock, then  it's emo now...

Yes, totally unnecessary, it should just be classified as a genre, not an insult.  I find too, that a lot of kids these days (haha i sound so old) are "dressing all Emo" and I find that people use that as an insult as well...  I grew up in the 90s and remember dressing "grunge" and we'd get looked down apon for that...we all go through phases, and maybe this genre is just reflecting this new generation..who knows.

I agree with you. My lil sis is 14 now, and she totally goes through this phase.. but she's the lovliest person on earth and if some dumbhead tried to make fun of her because of that he would regret it afterwards. ;) I understand that people have other opionions and don't like this musik+style, but some just seem to get all hysteric when it comes to 'emo'. It's getting SO old, I'm tired of these dumb insults. Let the kids have their phases.. It's just puberty.

oldgentlovecraft

Emo when I was in high school stood for emotional punk, not just any music that's emotional.  Emo is a classification not a generalization.  And as much as we hate putting music into categories it happens.  It's like hardcore standing for hardcore punk.  The kids took their own meaning out of emo that doesn't stand for a type of music but a kind of person and their interests.  When you see an emo kid now it's not the same as a person that listens to emo.  Get over it.

You have to admit though.

Some of these 'emo' bands have melodies that most bands would kill for

terms like "emo" and "sell out" piss me off, people throw them around like crazy, every piece of music is emotional, maybe to higher degree than others, but i mean the term that people dubb called "emo"...even though i know its a shitty loose term, i assume people are talking about bullshit like Hawthorne Heights and Simple Plan.  Groups with no truth, depth, passion or a strictly industry created sound.  It is not a bad thing to cry to a song if you feel it's beauty, or if you listen to music that has fucking melodies and talks about relationships, if it has some poetic creativity and instrumental talent then why shouldn't i listen to it? Im sick of meat-head jock frat boys or die hard metal heads that get on someones case if they listen to anything that has a goddamn melody in it, if i shot your quarterback or running back in the middle of one of your games, wouldnt that make you feel "emo"?

Sorry that got out of hand, but man stuff just pisses me off sometimes

To summarize: emo is an idiotic term especially when people use it to insult someone, Hawthorne Heights and Simple Plan and bands alike will suck doo doo butter no matter what you call it whether it be called emo, screamo or acid jazz.  Everyone has emotions and if i just happen to express them or if i listen to something that expresses emotions (with talent mind you)  i don't need some metalhead dick getting in my face about me being "emo"

I can and do enjoy bands like Converge while at the same time i love bands like Sigur Ros, i'm so glad i am not close minded like so many people in this array of music scenes

I love you Francesca

^^^ you are the champion of my heart. Above are the words that Im to dumb to think of.

Look at GlassJaws 'Everything you wanted....' how can this album not be emotional!!!!!daryl sings/screams about a girl that has wronged him.

I believe that the term 'emo' is dumb! But people need labels (and that my firends is why Deftones are labeled nu-metal)

these hopes fall

nah you aren't dumb man haha, i just get heated sometimes and i take the time to try to put it all together

I love you Francesca
