My vote goes to Bloody Cape.
The way it starts off with that beautiful, melancholic guitar tone and the nostalgic feel about it.
I also love the brutality and the originality of it and the breakdown at the end is the finest piece of art ever created by man.
I never get tired of hearing it and every time I do I seem to discover something new about it, like layers which peel back and reveal more underneath.
I also love Hexagram - Chino's screams still amaze me every time I listen to it, WGTB, Deathblow, Battle Axe, Needles and Pins, Minerva, Good Morning Beautiful, Lucky You, AOAUI and Moana to an almost identical level of fanaticism.

Just how I feel about ST. It's near perfect
Pushing you back but still you ain't goooooooooone!!!!!!

Following up White Pony was no easy task.  Let's face it: this album didn't surpass WP.  However, it is chalk full of some incredible songs.  Anniversary is one of the Deftones masterpieces.  What other metal band can create such a tender, enthralling composition?  Few come to mind.  But to me the real gem of the album is WGTB.  It's brutal and delicate at the same time.  And the lyrics are top notch.  I love Minerva too, such a beautiful song.  Absolutely epic.  Lastly, Hexagram is a real head trip.  It's decades ahead of its time.  How they came up with that song is beyond me.  The rhythm, lyrics, time changes, and sequencing are progressive, riveting, and explosive.  Yea it's a goooooooooood album!

It still amazes me when people rant about how great WP is and how S/T is a piece of shit in comparison.
Personally I see S/T as the bands masterpiece and White Pony, even though still a GREAT album, not one of my favourite Deftones albums.
S/T's songs are deeper, more complex, darker, stranger, better.
I always felt there were too many Deftones fans who were fans ONLY because they like White Pony.
It's as if they wanted WP V2 so bandly that they just shut their mind off and didn't give anything that followed a chance.
I pity fans like this, they're missing out in a big way.

Been waiting for someone to say this.

nineteen

Deftones syndrome again.

Indeed. White Pony is my favorite Deftones record, but the selt-titled is just... I don't know, man. There is no way to really describe it. It's full of rage, anger, depression, and beauty.

sing blue silver

maybe i just overplayed white pony. i rarely ever listen to it anymore. it's not even in my top 3.

Nebontha

Real hard pick for me between Needles & Pins, or Battle-Axe... chose Needles because I like the lyrics more.

It is SO fucking hard to choose between Bloody Cape and Hexagram...  So I felt a little better when I saw they were tied, I guess I'm not alone  :P

I eventually went with Bloody Cape because of its personal lyrical meaning to me.  I connected with it a little more than I wish I had at a particular point in my life, and has since become a bedrock for keeping myself away from settling.

Edit: Well I -WAS- going to go with Bloody Cape, until I noticed the poll was closed.  So fuck it.  But yeah...  Bloody Cape.

I used to despise this album. When I first heard it, I skipped track after track and eventually cast it aside for a year or so. Then SNW came out and I didn't like that much and I began to lose faith. Even when DE came out I hated it. Now, DE is the only CD I own that I can listen to top to bottom without skipping a song. I like them all for the most part. But lately I've gotten bored of DE and I have already listened to ATF and WP enough to understand their awesomeness. In turn I decided to pop their S/T in this last week and I am blown away. I love the darkness and complexity of the songs. Deathblow is my favorite but they all have something to offer. I don't see myself going back to DE any time soon...
