I heard muay thai had the hardest strikes

Most efftective! Boxing is hardest, Muay Thai is most effective... Ever caught an elbow... Now that hurts. But I would rather take an elbow off a unbalenced body then a straigh blow from Tyson...
everything about this statement is so true.

Fuck that!! Bone to bone would hurt WAY more that a boxing glove with force. You mean to tell me that a hand covered in a boxing glove would hurt more than a knee or elbow to the skull?? I'd much rather take a punch. Besides, boxing gloves are WAY thicker that ones used in Muay Thai...and i'm pretty sure most of the dudes can hit as hard IF NOT harder than Tyson...just sayin......
I think you are grossly underestimating how hard Tyson can hit.

I wasn't able to get an official psi.  There were a few different numbers floating around.  But here is a quote from yahoo answers

Close examination of Tyson's punches has shown that just one punch has the potential to knock out and hospitalize the average man. In fact the force of Tyson's knock out punch has an 85% chance of giving his opponent severe brain damage and is easily great enough to fracture any bone in the average human skull. In his research Dr Pain compares this to the average man, who has a 2% chance of inflicting this kind of injury - no wonder people fear the force of Iron Mike's fist."

Well,I've watched shows where they have dummy's hooked up to machines, and they tested 4 MMA dudes,Tito Ortiz,Randy Couture,Rampage Jackson...and someone else....I'm nearly certain they can hit as hard,if not harder than Tyson. I think Tyson is old news. I'm gonna find the video about it.  It was The History Channel...believe it was called Human Weapon. But again..I'm gonna find the video so I can show you the readings from their hits.

hehe you shouldnt use this pseudo-scientific shit to prove anything. there is no such thing as a yellow energy flowing through your body. you just get more speed if you turn your hips before the punch and your wrist just a tiny moment right before your fist hits.

also what was the intention with the comparision between sumo guys and a punch? the puch is stronger because it hits with just two bones (of index finger and middle finger) if the mass of the sumo guy would focus on such a tiny space the comparison would be more fair imho.

and plz dont compare fighting styles. its just useless.

devilinside

Compare fighting styles?  Well... this is martial arts thread, and there are many different kinds. You may think it's useless, but each person has their own views as to which style is best.

Nailec

the best for what aim? self defence? amazing looks or efficiency in a cage fight?

there is no such thing as a best style for each of the categories i named there. it all depends from the fighter and how he is able to use what he has learned in a certain situation.

rainnyx4

The best martial art would be one that covers as many areas as possible while testing the techniques in as realistic a manner as safety permits.

The one martial art that attempts to do this the best is Dog Brothers Martial Arts since it's essentially Mixed Martial Arts with weapons.  However, there are a bunch of styles that can serve you well.  Basically, any martial art that has continuous sparring involved in its training will make you a better fighter.  Stay away from martial arts that claim their techniques are too deadly to be tested as they are most likely full of shit.

Martial arts that get my seal of approval:

Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Shodokan/Yoshinkan/Iwama Aikido, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, SAMBO, Sanda/Sanshou, Savate, Full Contact Karate styles, Kendo, Sumo, Filipino Martial Arts

Yup. connedict energy using each pound of your body mass. I was well trained and have mastered the glassjaw knock out... That's why I don't train anymore, they kicked me out because I dropped some a-hole putting a sleeper hold on my brother in law. He lost quite a few teeth too.

If you're ever in Seattle and get near Pike Place Market you'll notice how steep the streets are, when I layed this guy out he slid all the way down the street, that was funny.

Variable

lol, thats awesome dude.  Honestly, believe it or not, I hate fighting.  I try to avoide a fight if I can.  Probably because I got my ass kicked enough to feel bad for a guy if I am kicking his ass.  Just looking at some dude all bloody and passed out on the ground because of me, makes me kind of sick.

But I am curious, how did you train for that?

But I fucking HATE him.
Sorry, I kind of forgot about this thread and the conversation we were having.

Thanks for those videos, I really enjoyed them.  LoL I know you hate that guy, but he made me laugh.  Hes just putting on a show.  I did find it pretty interesting though.  I'm not sure if it proved either of our points though.  I mean, they showed a punch, not an elbow to the face.  And then they said a body slam is the hardest hit in sports.  I was just trying to say that a punch from tyson is a lot harder than what most of those MMA guys can do.  But maybe I'm wrong.  I just always thought that Tyson held the standard as a hard hitter.

Tyson is kind of a tard.  But I just love how short he is ( I think 5'11 ) but he would still knock the fuck out of dudes way taller than him.  I don't know how much he weighed, and I really dont care enough to look it up.  But it had to be something like 230 with a real low body fat %.  Dude was stocky as fuck.  God dam, makes me want to hit the gym hard again.  About.....4 months ago I weighed 195 with pretty low body fat.  I'm 5'9.  Yeah, it was awesome.  Guys really handle you different when you are that stocky.  I couldn't imagine putting on enough muscle to weigh 210 or 220........ now I'm probably 185 :( I need to go to the gym.

I like to watch mma fights, but I do get a bit queasy when I see the real things. Uugh. my baby daddy (lol) has been doin mma for almost a year now,he sticks mainly to grappling though. He's been to 2 tournaments and got first and second at both. Im just waiting for hm to sprout out those nasty ass cauliflower ears. *gags*

Tyson more than likely, had more punching power than your average pro MMA fighter.  Punching is all he did for a living, so it stands to reason that a specialist would be better than a generalist.

Although, trying to compare a Boxer to a Mixed Martial Artist is kind of pointless.  A pro boxer will most likely beat a pro MMA fighter in a boxing match and vice versa.  The skill sets are related but not the same.  For instance, the footwork and stance of a boxer is different than that seen in MMA.  Boxers often take an almost perpendicular to their opponent stance where that would get you murdered in MMA.  You have to worry about more than punches in MMA and leaving yourself angled that way would easily set you up for a takedown (you have a more squared up stance in MMA).  And even a mediocre MMA fighter would probably be able to beat the best boxer under MMA rules.  If his opponent had no takedown/submission defense it would be easy pickings.

Variable

I dont think we were really comparing boxing and MMA.  That seems pretty obvious.  Just talking about hard hits.
