overall (there are exceptions) I think the songs feel much more elaborate and complicated in adrenaline compared to atf, especially in terms of riffs. also more of different parts in one song. in atf,the songs are pretty much right on, kind of simple and lazy riffs and it's very much verse / chorus / verse / chorus / verse chorus til the song is done.i can see how atf was written fast. i also prefer the more desperate vocals in adrenaline, he is more calm than desperate in them quiet parts in atf

Start smoking weed = ATF riffs.

Easy One - Adrenaline has always been my least favourite Deftones album.
It's the only Deftones album that I've never listened to from start to finish in one go.
In fact I've only listened to it a few times - not that it's a bad album.
I probably also haven't given it the chance it deserves.
It sounds to me like a band still trying to find their feet and their sound - ATF is definitely a much more mature album.
For me there's not enough variation, the guitar tones are too similar from one song to the next and it's the one and only Deftones album that has that nu-metal sound, to me.
I'm sure it probably deserves to be given more attention and it's strange that I haven't done it yet, I can't explain why, but I think one of these days I need to put it on again and give it a proper chance, not stopping before it's through.

First time I've listened to Adrenaline that album made me feel depressed, I just skipped all the songs after a couple of seconds and took the cd of the stereo really quickly. It has such a depressing teenager vibe to it i could not stand listening to it. But since the deftones were already my fav band at the time I decided to give it another chance again and again and it did not work. until one day i realised i was singing on my head the few parts i knew from that record and  soi went home and forced myself to listen to the whole record and by the end of it i so into it. I fell in love really easy with around the fur and i listened to it non stop for ages and ages but I think I will go with Adrenaline, I gave it more listens than around the fur since I discovered what a gem it is.

it would be cool to hear the adrenaline songs in 97 atf production and the atf songs in 95 adrenaline production.
just once for fun. i believe i'm the only one that probably would like the atf songs more in adrenaline production. the atf production sounds better it's just that i love the sound in adrenaline way more. rusty chainsaw riffs i'm lovin it

I agree, the production on Adrenaline is a part of its charm, but fuck, you can't mess with ATF master class.

Around the Fur is a good album, and in some respect better than Adrenaline, but just think about it.... ATF has no song thats the equivalent of "Fireal"......

Correct but AS A WHOLE, Around the Fur is just better. I'd take Fist over almost any other Deftones song, but still, Around the Fur is better than Adrenaline, as a whole.

everyone says atf is more mature, but i can't see how in the songwriting. maybe the're thinking of the lyrics. fireal for instance, it's more epic because it's like two different songs in one, it seems they put more work, effort and thought to it.compare it to damone, it's like a punk song with power chords just full on and 2 single notes in the verse. it's like a garage band wrote it if you look at the structure,a step back in the song writing for deftones.although there are exeptions,i have this feeling about adrenaline vs atf as a whole. i love both songs, but it seems the around the fur songs try to hide the poor structures with energy, speed and good sound in the production. mos is one song that has a little more going on in it. decent record though.  but i take god's hand, teething and can't even breathe over any atf song -  the adrenaline era songs that wasn't on the record i like better. god bless that time
