whodunit?

I was just wondering, how many people here, playing guitar, take guitar lessons?

I have written few songs, but I know they are fuckin' amateur. I think I need to start getting some guitar lessons.

How many of you have actually have them?

I haven't had any guitar lessons, learned to play myself.

And by now (I'm playing, well, for about four? years, but the last year was the most intense on playing, cause before everything I played was lame). I have composed and created about 40 different songs with from one to 5-6 guitar tracks. I actually now am compiling a, well, thing, which will contain by far 10 songs of mine, and I thought about sharing it with you guys. Sort of ambientish-post-rock-movement stuff. Drumless :(

I need just one more week or so to complete it.

i've been attempting guitar for about a year or so, not serious though, so that's why i dont take lessons.
eventually i'd like to start another band with my buddies and perhaps play guitar there....as far as natural talent goes, i do a lot better on drums

drum is more easy to play than guitar (IMO)
im more into drum than guitar  when i was a kid because back then i think that guitar is more complicated to learn. but yeah to play guitar  learned by myself.

I started playing guitar when I was 13 [I'm 19 now] and I just taught myself - I've never had lessons. I like to think I'm good at guitar but having played for 6 1/2 years I'm definitely not as good a player as I should be.

you only need guitar lessons in the beginning stages, that's important... when a teacher forces you to hold the pick in a certain way and fret the strings in a certain way and you're thinking, "goddamn conformists, i'll do it the way i want", but you do it anyway... that helps...

if you're taking lessons online or reading them off a book, it's easy to ignore these lessons...

I played piano for about 13 years and there has always been a guitar laying around . I just got a friend to teach me how to hold a pick and how to bar a chord. Apart fro m that, I've never had a lesson, but I come from a musical family (mums a piano teacher, sister is a violinst and dad is an old schools session bassist)

once you get your fingers going and can play chords without unwanted clicks and clanks, look up tabs, learn how to read them, play along to your favourite songs. then maybe take lessons to advance your knowledge on what youre doing. but DO NOT take them if you cant even hold a chord , its a waste of your money, they will start telling you about theory and a bunch of other BS. when really they should be teaching you a simple song to get you flowing first.
ive been playing for 6 years or so, my favourite guitarist is buckethead. ive learned all kinds of styles, funk, jazz, but i mainly play progressive metal in my band and write all the material. check out http://www.myspace.com/persepolis  , and the blue print songs... they are simple but because my vocals have to go over them, and i cant exactly shred and rip good vox too :S
