Man I'm not usually impatient but now I'm getting impatient LOL

I wonder if something went really wrong, like it had to be remixed etc (Gore). It's definitely taking longer than even I expected, I was a pessimist about it's release date from the beginning.

Gaz

It's Deftones, expect delays and mystery - enjoy the ride  ;D

Formant

I don't think anything went wrong. They're older and are juggling a resurgence in popularity amidst health and family.

(I'm not trying to imply specific concerns in either area, for any members of Deftones. Just speaking on life being unique for older touring musicians with families)

This major tour is good to capitalize off the moment, and maybe the label is choosing to therefore delay the album to release after this tour finishes.

At this point in their careers, I think they don't care anymore about how soon to release an album. And WB likely have their own plans, also.

Reflecting on their TikTok popularity ahead of this album...it is insane how popular their cover of Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want is. I know it's easy to be snobbish as an older fan but seriously — it has more listens on Spotify now than Digital Bath! And for what might be their least good cover. They have like twelve that are better.
I could float here forever

As a younger fan, I don't get it at all either. Id rather listen to literally any randomly selected song from one of their studio albums than that song. Not to say its a bad cover its just... A cover.

Eh you wish. I don't listen to Deftones anymore but seeing the crowds they draw now makes the disconnection grow only so stronger.

I'm sure lots of people on there actually care about the music but TikTok definitely has this thing with images and carving out unrealistic representations. I have the impression a lot of fanbases use the music like a piece of clothing. I guess the old punks would call it posing, not sure I would agree but I don't know man. I could be wrong but I think a lot of people from previous generations would have noticed the new album tease they've been using, and I haven't seen a mention of it anywhere!

It's either this or I got too old for this. Maybe it's a bit of both

I've seen teenagers wearing Nirvana shirts and I'll ask them if they listen to the band, one response was "No but my dad really likes them".

I don't think gen z or y or whatever it is now actually acknowledges "posing", or maybe they do I have no idea. It just occurs to me that they are more about current trends and gravitate more toward what they deem fashionable at the moment than the older generations. Not a judgement, just an observation based on how different information and fashion is spread nowadays. I've been debating whether I like Deftones' newfound popularity in the younger crowds, and I've decided I'm fine with it as long as it means they get to keep doing what they do.

I'm old, I don't have Tiktok. I find out about new music from this forum lmao. I can't believe Head Automatica has new music, what has it been? 20 years?

Vesanic

I really believe TikTok has made it worse. Like sure, teenagers will still hop on trends and want to be popular or cool one way or another, it probably wasn't much different when I was a kid if I'm trying to look at all angles. But fucking shit on a mountain, TikTok is real life horror when it comes to that.

When I think back on the kids who struggled to socialise and were severely depressed because they hated not being popular or couldn't fit in with what was cool, I can only imagine what being on TikTok would have done to them.

When I saw Deftones were getting momentum from the exposure on TikTok, I thought it was cool for them, more fans, more success, what's the issue right? But when I take a deeper look at it, I'm like eeehhh...

Im 14 turning 15 this year but
2023 in march [i was 12] I found out abt Deftones and didn't like them, I think first song i heard was feticere. But I started to listen to other band like Slipknot and linkin park, then later into 2023 [i was 13] Deftones rises in popularity and I re listen to them, and I fall in love with them. And no im not stuck on ATF and WP. I've listened to every single Deftones album except black stallion bc ts is ass. I'm a huge fan of Deftones and I play like all their songs on guitar. Unfortunately I don't own any merch of posters abt them. But yet again I found Deftones abt tiktok, but im not like those basic teens trying to be cool, only listing yo change, cherry waves, mos, and 7words. Like they need to grow up musically 😭
