I caved.

On first listen I think Genesis might be the least good song on it. Which says something.

TSoM is this albums' Geometric Headdress.

TSoM is 1000% better than Geometric, imo. Its not even close.

This album is so incredibly well sequenced. It's not front loaded - both halves are as good as each other. A really impressive album by anybody's standards let alone a 9th. 9th album!

On my way to TSOM, tracks 2,3,4 gives me British Rock vibes, specifically a frantic and rave-y rainy London night. Dunno why such specific imagery. This is the most Deftones sounding and least Deftones sounding Deftones have ever been. Really surprising 80's, 90's vibes. Gonna listen to 320 when pre order drops

I think Radiant City might be my favorite song on here. Headless maybe a close second.

Shells

Urantia sounds like if Duran Duran did a chugga chugga metal record.... How can a song sound like both of those things? Skilllsssss Deftones, skillllssssss.

I really don't get hits love for Spell, I think it's the weakest song.

The bass on TSOM is excellent

Where to fucking begin? This is not a review cause Im just doing my second listening of the entire record, but my god, for now I feel pretty safe to say this is everything I always wanted Deftones to be since White Pony. Keep in mind: this is not White Pony 2.0, but to me it feels like the potential I felt in this band back then REAALLLLLY comes to fruition on this album. It's hard for me to explain why that is exactly. Part of it is that the songs sound so unconventional structure- and soundwise, just like on WP. And part of it is that the whole thing feels so layered, like when you listen for the first few times you just HEAR that theres so much going on and you know youll have countless listenings ahead of you to just get a grasp on everything there. Like after a thousands of times, it sometimes still feels like you're finding new stuff on WP, right? Thats what this feels like to me.

Also a lot of stuff reminded me of ATF. Some truly inspiring, hard riffs and Chino's voice is sooooo butterly smooth. I also love that each member truly shines here. Abe's drums really pop, Frank has never been more present on the production AND song structure and Sergio really shows what he can do here. And Stef of course, he really fucking shines on this record, my god!

The album is expertly paced and just long enough. After the closing track I instantly want to hear it again.

There are truly some melodies here that touch me on an emotional level. I mean as you can read above Im a huge White Pony fan, but Im also still in love with Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan. However, those records feel a bit 'simpler' to me. Dont get me wrong, I love how they make Deftones feel energized again and I think they're both stone cold modern classics, but Ohms just has this extra special thing that I really can't explain. More layers, I guess? More difficult to graps structures and melodies?

I don't want to hype myself and yall up too much cause I remember being pretty fine with Gore as well on first listen, but that didnt take very long. But I have such a good feeling about this one. It might become one of my favorites. Might. We will see. For now, this is really an interesting release and its even more mindblowning knowing this is the 9th release of the band. Jesus, how do they do it?

By the way, this leak is definitely not quite optimal quality. Sounds good but a little sloshy on the high end. I've reserved myself to the one listen for this reason.

Yes, leak doesn't sound that good. Can feel there's so much going on, but the rip quality doesn't do justice

First listen through:

* Guitars are LOUD, dayum Stephen! YESS!
* Big 80s synth pop melody vibes on top of those loud guitars, Duran Duran throughout especially. Chino's doing his best Simon Le Bon this album. It's brilliant.
* Genesis and Ohms were definitely the best choices for singles - Ohms eases you in with a bit of upbeat excitement, Genesis is like a half and half that gives you more of a feel of the album as it gets more of that heavy guitar tone. Then the rest of the album is like BAM!

I can't say what I liked the best, all of the tracks made me stop and listen and had moments that made me think wow. The sound feels nostalgic but really fresh and new all at the same time. I think it's gonna be an absolute beaut once it's sunk in. Deftones albums always need that time to work right into your soul but once it's there it never leaves.

Hitting that play button again and cranking the volume up!

I couldnt say it better. I think we all, as fans, know their potential, but this time I think they trully pulled it off (IMO). Even more than WP (which is not even my fav record, btw).
This record is so different, so weirdly different. BUT good. Im loving the fact you can hear how Frank's hand are all over it, and its amazing.

ATF and S/T still hold a very special place in my heart, but man... this one might join them.

I fell in love with Deftones after listening to Adrenaline. ATF was like those first months when you are in a new relationship and everything is great! It reinforced those feelings. Created a bond! Same with WP. S/T showed me a side of them I wasnt expecting. So deep and dark... first 4 are still my fav from their discography.

Ohms? Im speechless... and that never happened before. Ever.

I thought I was overreacting a little after the first couple times, but now? I dont know if I am...
