I understand everyone has their own opinions. And personally, Adrenaline is the only album of theirs that almost never gets plays from me. Probably because DE was their introduction for me (I'm not a real fan, obviously...  ;D ) But the sound doesn't interest me at all. And that's not to say I don't enjoy heavy Deftones, I love Hexagram (although whether that fits into every body's definition of "heavy" or not, who knows) Adrenaline is just too repetitive with little to no diversity for my tastes.

This is an interesting interview where Chino touches on a lot of interesting subjects. Read what he says about Adrenaline, and how he feels about it today. It sums that album up perfectly.

Great interview. Weird they don't talk about KNY, though.

Wow. So I caved. And listened to it. Should've held off. There is some seriously incredible stuff on here.
But god dam the quality is so shit. Did not expect it. It's like someone's put a low pass filter and compressed it in a sock :(

Really wish I had held out one more day haha! Should of listened to ya shoop!!

Oh well. Can't wait for the proper quality. Don't know how these guys keep writing music of this level. There's just no other band out there like this...
Haha.. I shook my head as soon as I started reading that. We're so close to a proper rip.

I don't know who you are, or if you even browse this forum and I understand everyone has their opinions. But thanks. I really needed that laugh today

;D

You know, I really love Adrenaline, but mostly I love how raw and almost-spontaneous it sounds. It's authentic and even then you can hear that they're not just playing typical nu-metal. But it's not a masterpiece at all. They had a lot to learn, and hell, that album is the most repetitive album they've ever done. They've never sounded the same since, they've expanded and grown from that point until now. And yeah, you know, maybe some people hate Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan because they sound so polished, largely-unaggressive, so far away from their roots. But if you don't like those albums, it's just because of personal preference. Because they have undeniably improved since then. Man, to say that their first album, the one that they made when they were so young, is their best, is...not really a compliment, haha.

Before I saw that I was actually thinking about asking if there's anyone on here with the "FIRST ALBUM IS THEIR BEST. NOTHING EXISTS AFTER THAT" mentality for Deftones. haha.

adrenaline is my favorite album, i got it the year it came out so it holds a very special time & place in my heart, so it probably always will...but i also love every other deftones album  :)

Is this on that Deftones FB group where all those attention-seeking high school girls post pictures of their ugly tatted up chest pieces and shit? I go on there sometimes and scroll for 15 minutes until my face hurts from laughing so hard

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAH sounds like "Deftones Familia" group, love the description

Hidalgo

adrenaline is a masterpiece in my opinion. if you like the heavy side of deftones, it doesn't get heavier than adrenaline. also, Stephen's riffs, & guitar sound are so awesome on that album. Chino vastly underestimates that album, it's a classic for sure

God, that group became cancer. They were about to make me change my favourite band.

underneaththecar

don't get me wrong adrenaline has some great moments and I get nostalgic as all hell listening to it...having said that if you think it's Deftones best album I seriously wonder how you would feel about 8 albums of the same exact sound....

I wouldnt go as far as to say Adrenaline is a piece of art, but it is a killer album without a doubt. Favorite album is S/T but adrenaline is somewhere up there, it has some great tracks, birthmark, lifter, and one weak being my favorite tracks on there.
Was it like it seemed?...

phil for real

Gore is so fucking good.  What a great album.  This band blows me away that they're still expanding upon their sound and trying new things 20 years in.  Have yet to disappoint me.  I'm gonna try to rank these albums now.  Still a bit early, but fuck it.  I'm having a difficult time deciding between Diamond Eyes and Gore though.

1. Self Titled
2. White Pony
3. Gore
4. Diamond Eyes
5. Koi No Yokan
6. SNW
7. ATF
8. Adrenaline

I must say the song Gore is Glassjaw as fuck haha

So, something interesting has happened. (L)MIRL was a song I was disappointed with because it didn't live up to this darkness I was expecting. Then I listened to a few times and realised it was indeed a dark and sinister song, and it was just one part I didn't like. And now, despite it not being one of my favourites, it's actually the one I'm most drawn to listening to on repeat. That's odd. So I guess it's a very addictive song.

The mood transition is weird at first but if you let it be what it is, its a dark song, dont let the transition fool you

Wow, that's a hell of a review. All these reviews have been crazy good, it's unlike anything I've seen for a long time, that's pretty awesome.

You were right, dude, you told me so and I refused to listen, but I was wrong. I still don't like the "I sail on these waves, hey!" part though, it just feels too out of place, but the rest makes up for it.

LOL @ KNY not expanding their sound. There were so many things that they did on that album that they had never done before.

If you don't like the album that's fine. But at least come up with something that makes sense for why you don't like it.

I do not believe that KNY greatly expanded the sound previously established on DE. That doesn't mean nothing new at all was done. Just like in my explanation, ATF was the same way. Of course it was different, but not greatly. KNY was merely an extension of DE.

It's strange but after listening to their albums back to back this week, I feel like instead of KNY and DE being sister albums as Chino has been saying in a lot of the interviews, DE and SNW actually seem to go together more.

ghettovaquero

Geometric headdress is my favorite song on the album. I absolutely love the "as the words draw you in" fuck so good

Anybody else get a 30 Seconds to Mars The Kill vibe when listening to Phanom Bride at all or is it just me? Loving this whole album by the way. Only 2 songs in not crazy about and I'm sure they will grow on me later.

This I don't see at all. I see almost no connection between SNW and DE. KNY, however, I believe to be the natural evolution of the DE sound.

And apparently Chino agrees with me, despite all the "LOLs" from this guy. Besides, if what he got out of my description of the similarities between Chi and Sergio era Deftones was that I "don't like" KNY, he must have some severe comprehension deficiencies.

I've been keeping up with the overwhelmingly positive reviews, Impressions and emotional outbursts, and I have to say, making the decision to not dive into the leak is SUCH a double edged sword. I so badly want to hear this because of all the positivity that you guys have thrown down for it, but I know I want to hear it at its highest quality and in the most ideal setting. For the last 6 albums, I have always gathered a group of friends and listened to it together. Often times we make a pact to not listen to the leak and hold steady, but it crumbles based on our eagerness to hear something as awesome as the prospect of new Deftones music. Thank goodness this leaked so close to the actual release date, because I feel like I can keep my composure for the next 4 days. Anything longer, I'm screwed, lol.

To those of you who have enjoyed this, which seems to be quite a few of you, would there be any advice you would give to somebody listening to it for the first time on the release date? Have all of you listened to it by yourselves or has anyone here listened to it amongst of grouping of friends when you first heard it? I'm intending to have my first listen be within a sort of "listening party", where a few buddies of mine, who have been following Deftones as long as I have, can gather and listen and absorb each and every little nuance track by track. Are there any opinions as to whether or not this might be detrimental to the experience? Should it first be experienced alone and then bring in others? I know the choice is to each his/her own, but you guys seem like you have dug in to the album quite deeply, so if you were in my position , how would you approach this?

Sorry for the lengthy post. Since I havent been able to bring myself to listen to it yet, the best I can do is interact with those who have. Haha
Oz... if you come within 25 miles of my house, I will back a car over your head 75 times.
