Wait, are people seriously judging the entire album based on snippets? I'm practically reading a few full reviews in here! Oh, Deftones fans...
Haha. I know right? Thinking & noticing the same thing..
It'll take a week of listening to the album for me to be able to fully judge it.

there's a lot of talk about that it should be a mix with soft and heavy... but what about happy and sad? not so much sad stuff in the snippets.tempest seems to be the saddest song on the album judging by these clips. didn't expect it to be when i first heard it
There was absolutely no genuinely sad or depressing stuff on DE, and that was a bit of a weakness. But I think you're overlooking Rosemary, which might be the most empty, depressing vibe they've had since S/T. I know the lyrics are open to less dreary interpretations, but musically... combined with lines like "cross the empty sky"... it takes me right back to the WGTB/Battle-Axe sequence.

I do hear you on the first couple tracks, but after that I'm not sure it's any happier than, say, some of WP's upbeat stuff.

yeah i just think of rosemary as being dreamy and not very depressing or sad... but i guess you're right, it has some sadness to it too

Haven't listened yet.  Must.  Not.  Listen.
Same here.. I listened to a couple seconds of the Swerve City sample and said NO! MUST WAIT!
So I made myself stop listening, I want the whole thing to be a surprise. I've already listened to 3 of the songs from the album.. that's enough for now.

Did the website open up on you and start playing Swerve City? Happened to me as well hahah XD

I was like (in the words of Chino)

"FUCK THAT SHIT!" and muted my speakers.
The sky is falling down
The night is calling you
A star is burning out
The sky belongs to you

So I caved in and listened to the snippets. I feel like punching myself, but anyway... "Entombed" got me so intruiged right now.

You listened to them all?

I had a little idea of just listening to 2 of them and going back and forth every once in a while. Works like a charm. But now I'm waiting for the album now.

From the snippets, I like the sounds of Swerve City, Poltergeist, Entombed, Gauze and Goon Squad. Not really getting a good sense of Chino's melodies on Graphic Nature and What Happened to You, but the riff on the former sounds pretty bad ass.

As for Romantic Dreams, the second Chino comes in...he sounds off key. Really off key. His voice sounds so strained. Then he goes into that catchy 90's hook, which just sounds...a little too pop for me.

Of course, these are just brief snippets and who knows how the entire songs will play. My opinion might completely change.

yep, some people were saying Tempest had a southern rock feel but i don't hear it on that snippet (i had only listened to Leathers until now). i'm sure we'll be surprised by the full songs

you chose to listen to the snippets but not the full studio songs? that's odd

yeah, i used to listen to every full songs released before an album comes out but then it'd ruin the first listen of the album.  snippets are different because i tend to not overplay them so i've forgotten about them once i hear the album.

I just broke down and listened to all the samples.  ;D ;D ;D

I'll just give me initial reactions to each track (not full reviews! lol)

Swerve City: This track sounds like a whole lotta fun. Pretty catchy, too, reminds me of something off ATF. Kickass rolling riff.
Romantic Dreams: Really strange... Nothing like I've heard from them before. Still pretty good, Chino's vocals sound amazing.
Leathers: ...
Poltergeist: Sounds like it would fit nicely on DE. Similar vibes. Nothing like Rats! x3 at all, like some people are saying.
Entombed: I won't lie, this sounds absolutely incredible. Frank put in a lotta work here, it's evident. Just sounds really spacey/out there.
Graphic Nature: Can't quite put my finger on... Will have to wait until the final album. But it's fun.
Tempest: ...
Gauze: Another incredible song. Chino's vocals are amazing here, and the layers are beautiful and quite heavy. Stunning balance of both beauty and badass riffage.
Rosemary: EPIC.
Goon Squad: May be the heaviest song on the album, can't be too sure, but it's a nod to Adrenaline the way I see it... Cool track.
What Happened To You: Beautiful, enchanting stuff. Sounds like they're closing it on a softer note. DE haters will hate this song, though. I can feel it.

I haven't either.  But I've had the page up for hours.

Pony#1

I think this will easily be the best album these guys have done.  I'm not understanding why some of you are complaining they went too mainstream and soft.   I could care less if this album makes them huge and they deserve it if it does.  Most ppl grow up and stop being pissed at the world and Deftones have definitely grown with me.

Hah! I know.. I caved. But llisten to them if you really want to. I only listened to them once.
A) You won't be dissapointed  ;D
B) I've already forgot what most of them sounded like.

From what I can tell, it sounds like the samples are taken from the middle of the songs..
This album is going to be stellar for sure.

Your song by song description is very accurate. It's exactly how I would describe them when I just listened to them.
Entombed was the most intriguing to me out of the samples.
