Man, after listening to Leathers again, I'm so bummed Nick Raskulinecz doesn't know how to record drums properly. It's not as bad as Diamond Eyes (listen to CMND/CTRL for terrible, terrible, terrible drum sound) but he still is underselling Abe for what it's worth.

Also my annoyance with Nick especially on Diamond Eyes. The snare is just like a wet fart and they aren't as punchy/crisp/dynamic as their old stuff. I feel it's an improvement on Leathers however but nothing like the past.

I think I'm a product of the 90s generation where everything was recorded quite rough - Korn's first two records for example - the snare and high-hats are mega loud but I like that. Probably a bad comparison but I loved the sound of Abe's kit on all of their records ending with S/T.

All in all though, it's not enough for me to hate it, just a preference really. I really do like Leathers the more I listen to it.

Leathers will probably be the catchy song they release first as a taste. If a lot of the songs are over 5 minutes then they have to at the very least have a little bit of experimentation/soundscapes.  I'm excited for that, their singles on the past few records have been my least favorite songs on those albums.

I have no idea what Tempest will sound like, but since the record company chose it, I guess it'll be something that's just a summary of the record basically.

I'm also excited to hear Swerve City, since Chino seems to be excited for that song, and wanted it as the first single. He said in an interview if they get a second single, he hopes it's that one.

I wonder what it sounds like?

I also agree. When I listen to that YouTube video of the guy doing the drum cover I realize how much I miss the punchier in your face drum sound of white pony and s/t. I'm not saying the cover vid has amazing tone but I miss the drums being higher in the mix.
