I asked stef back in '07 before a show if combat would be on the cards. He pretty mug laughed it off and said it was a studio song, stating chino can't play guitar & sing it live.

However since the introduction of royal in the last year with chino on guitar and the heavy vocals in the outro, you never know there may still be hope for combat.

I don't doubt that they couldn't play it, but that sounds exactly like what steph would've said about Chino back then. The band aired him out in a lot of interviews lol.

the question is well justified.I think stu says so because deftones themselves say they're a live band. but they can't say they're better on record than live, it would be bad publicity for their shows.
when it comes to music, sounding good must come before jumping around a lot on stage

yes his vocal injury is a good reason among others for why they're better as a studio band

Considering they've never ever played Gift live, they probably forgot how to play it...
