i still love the story Stef told about Chi not knowing he was playing the 8 string for 3 months. ahh that's Chi, not paying attention. fans like us talked about the 8 string everday, and Chi gets around to asking Stef if he ever got the 8 string 3 months after he'd been recording in the same room with it everday. priceless. they had to have laughed at him

yes, although.....
i think chi being in a sort of limbo affects them differently than if he had died.....and might have had to do with their decision to go forward.
that being said, with this album and tour they may be reinvigorated "permanantly", and whether chi recovers but is unable to play or god forbid...passes away....they might have the new found strength to keep going. actually i feel this is most likely.
i think that if he or one of the others had straight up died we would be viewing a totally different situation, and maybe they would just have "quit".
also, cherrywaves took the words out of my mouth as far as, "it's not negative to be realistic", although i do believe there's a strong possibility that we see Chi's return, and don't plan to give up hope until i see proof otherwise, but again, i just wish the guy well in general, regardless of his abiliy to rejoin his brothers.

and yeah.....wtf happened that night of the accident? it's always bugged me too......car accident, chi in coma......oookaaayy, AND?

Yeah, I agree with what a lotta ppl are saying about it not being negative to be realistic. I mean, it was a serious accident, and it takes a long time to recover frm even if he will be able to do things normally again, it could be quite a while. If he does get to that stage, and Deftones are still making music, and he wants to continue with it, I'm sure there'd be no reluctance at all. It must be horrible for bands wen something like that happens...there are so many things to think about and consider.

either way they'll probably never stop. chi would probably want that.

by the way lets hope this isn't the "year of nu metals return". nu metal is fucking garbage. i used to love it. korn was my favorite band for years, then i got some taste. deftones are the only band of that time to remain relevant and come off as actually talented and they're not even fucking nu metal. nu metal is dead and should be left that way. but yeah...

we all hope for chi's return but if sergio is here to stay, i say give er'. (yes i'm canadian)

I suppose it's selfish of me to think the band should stop being a band without Chi. I mean, you can't end a 20 year career over a misfortune accident, I guess.

I actually like Nu-Metal. It had some groove n stuff and was interesting. It totally gets too much crap...

As far as what happens with the bassist thing, I guess the only thing we can hope for is Chi to get better and The Deftones carrying on doing what they do.

OMG.. you people, are even saying Deftones will finish their career... wtf is wrong with your "realistic positiveness"...

let's hope Chi the man could get up of the bed and time will say if he'll be able to play again, if Deftones will release Eros or if they will quit.

I feel Sergio has become a session musician over time he doesnt have the fluid flow of Chi he's abit more stiff his input on Prince I didnt really like tbh...
Bring Chi back!

First of all, we should be thankful that Chi survived and is alive, still fighting his way back.

He might be able to come back on stage to be the Chi Cheng that we all know and love. Or he might not. But, i just want to see him out of his bed, back to his family, heathy and ALIVE. Hopefully, back to a normal and happy life without any kind of health problem, other than the memory of the accident that we can't just erase from our heads.

I'd love to see him playing and touring again, but if he gets better (and i know we all want that) but not good enough to join the band again, im fine with it. His family need him, his SON needs him. I cant ask for a miracle because my favorite band member is hospitalized and i want him back to his spot. Thats really sad to say the least. He is a model as a human being. Thats the guy i want to get better, Chi Cheng, the person, not the Deftones bass player (if you know what i mean).

Theres also the possibility of Chi getting better to his best shape again, but decidind to not join the band again, to spend more time with his family instead of the time away, touring.

Just my thoughts.

hey all,

i know some of you don't have a very positive outlook for chi... and are trying to be realistic about the situation..

but i would like to selfishly ask you to please project a positive outlook for chi and his recovery. even if you think of yourself as delusional for doing so...

i may sound like a new age nut.. but sending out positive energy/thoughts/prayer does and will help chi on many levels.

thanks to those already doing so.

and as for him playing bass again or touring.. let's get our boy on his feet first and get him his life back. he is a human being, son, brother, father, friend first... "deftones bassist" was his occupation.
