Hidalgo

yea, me too. i've seen them 4 times & never even seen them do knife prty. seeing them do the song with Rodleen, now that's just badass. been about 10 years since they did the song in the studio with her

Yo dawg I heard you like Deftones so we put some Xzibit in your Deftones so you can listen to Xzibit while you listen to Deftones.

haha, that's hilarious!

so it seems like this show was fucking epic. can't wait to see/hear some recordings.
pray nightfall release me
then i could wander, wander to deep sleep

If they'd only have had one on Saturday I could have been there :(. Man, this is awesome, but such a bummer at the same time. Worse timing for a midterm exam ever. They should have told Chi about everyone who was going to be there to perform and support him, he might just have gotten right up out of bed when he found out what was going on. Everything sounds like it was awesome.

Much respect,

Well I go to school is Massachusetts, lol. It's not so much that I wouldn't have been able to study for it, and more that if I flew out for one of the shows I would have missed it entirely, which isn't an option. I tried to work some crazy schedule around going, but they all ended up in either me missing a good part of the show, and/or me missing my exam. Just horrible timing all around. I was very much so giving consideration to being completely irresponsible and going, but at this point it was either graduate or go to the show. Bleh. Now I get to hear round two of what I'll be missing tonight, haha. You guys and gals who got to go are truly lucky--count yourselves as one of the blessed, haha.

HOLY SHIT!
what a fuckin night!
i'm just gettin home...i looked through this topic, and everything was pretty much copvered by our play-by-play reporter, haha.

i don't even know where to start, so i'll take it from the top...
i missed pod.
far and cypress were cool, maybe 20 minutes each.
main event time!
rocket skates, fuckin bad ass as ever...no frank nonsense at the end.
then a couple of standard songs...

knife party marked the first guest musician of the night.
rodleen chopped off her dreads, didn't recognize her at first.
this was somewhat disappointing, cuz when her part came, she was wailing into the mic, but we heard nothing.
not sure if the mic was off or if they fucked up the levels, but she was inaudible for most of her part til the very end, where it was kinda too late....still cool to see her tho, i saw her do it in 2000 at the palladium too.

street carp!!! fuckin street carp!
one of my favs...rarely played live as far as i know...can't for the life of me remember who sang back up vox on this one.
there was a guest musician on literally every single song,  starting with knife party...

passenger....duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!
i didn't know who the dude was til i read it in this thread (they didn't introduce anyone, you kinda had to figure it out on your own).
but WOW, what a voice on this man!
not sure what he's doing in a screamo band, cuz he's legit.
all the tool tools will hate me, but the dillinger dude did that part even better than its creator...superb.

xerces was emotional and beautiful, although kind of a questionable choice for a few reasons.
it felt like a funeral for a second when the sad piano part played and chino crooned "good-byyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyye" at chi's huge backdrop picture...
not sure if anyone else felt the same, but it was a very weird moment for me...odd song choice for sure.

savory!
anniversary!
i popped huge for these! couldn't believe my ears...
jonah and chino are great together.
you knew it was a special night when you could say you heard 2 songs NEVER played live....ever.
and no ordinary love...jonah said "this has never been tried before...ever."
not sure if he meant his duet with chino, or whether deftones have ever played the song live....i'm sure ya'll know if it's been played before...i personally had never heard it live til tonight.
jonah really stepped it up on this one....his verse part towards the end...he passionately screamed the words
"Did somebody say that a love like that won't last
Didn't I give you all that I've got to give baby!"
it was totally intense...gave me chills.

jailbreak....eh.
to be quite frank (pun intended), this one fell on deaf ears for 95% of the audience.
there were no crue fans, no thin lizzy fans, and definitely no mark mcgrath fans.
he was sweet tho, he gave a heartfelt speech about his love for chi stemming from deftones "first ever us tour with sugar ray and monster magnet in the 90's."
kind of a cheesy 80's rock song, the crowd watched on stone-faced with no reaction as mr. mcgrath swiveled his hips in his tight pants and v-neck shirt, HAHA!
even chino was kinda lookin around at the other deftones like, "damn, i think we mighta dropped the ball on this one." haha

back to school was tight.....X to the Z!
place went NUTS for rock superstar....i'm not a huge cypress fan, but damn.  they bring so much energy.  they know how to work a crowd.  great jam.
headup was nice....chino did this bad ass screaming thing through one of the entire verses instead of singing the words...hard to explain, but you'll hear it at some point.  twas greatness.
their original bassist played bongos on a song! chino said he also DRUMMED for the band for a brief period when abe left the group...who the fuck knew that? not i....
chino comically called abe a "fucker" while telling this history lesson, haha.

overall, just an epic historical gig.
these adjectives get thrown around alot, but they've never been more appropriate.
the vibe was very positive and loving.
the pit was a friendly pit too, except for one fat bastard throwing elbows.
fuck him.
the were lots of chi chants...pretty emotional.
as others mentioned, there were AT LEAST two pro shot videos, one on each side of the stage.
then there were LOTS of people taking amateur video....including people in the balcony, which is great news cuz amateur vid cameras get much better sound from up there (i saw a system of a down boot that was filmed from that same balcony, 9 out of 10 quality).
so i'm confident in saying that i guaran-damn-tee that a solid ass boot will surface in coming days.

oh yeah, one other thing needs to be pointed out.
the set was only 90 minutes, but believe me when i tell you that deftones woulda played all night if they were allowed to.
the avalon is GAY.
every night at 11, they have this stupid night club dancing bullshit.
so they won't let any rock act play past 10:30....chino asked the crowd a couple times what time it was...
i always find it funny when i go outside the avalon at 10:45 after a rock show.....and seeing a huge line filled with all these douche bags in silk shirts, and skank whores in little dresses and high-heels....lookin in disgust and repulsion as all the sweaty metal heads file out of the building right next to them.
the avalon used to be a great place to see a show (when it was still called the Hollywood Palace...now you get thrown out for crowd-surfing), but i digress.
i'm sure i left out a few things here and there, but i just wanted to get ya'll a decent live account before i head off to bed.
i think i have a few good pics...i'll upload asap.
here's a lil sumpthin sumpthin from my cell phone:

We'll stop to rest on the moon, and we'll make fire.
I'll steal a carcass for you, and feed off the virus.

That is not a good enough reason not to go  :P

The only reason I never went was because I have been off work for 2 weeks with Swine Flu....and I live in the UK.
