Ok, so say they release a 'different' album before Eros:

1) Are they releasing as 'Deftones', because holding back Eros sounds like the different shit isnt to be considered a Deftones album, to me. In which case, is it going to be 'Chino/Stef/Frank/Abe with guest'?

2) What the fuck are you going to do when Eros is released afterwards, and is worse, even with a rework? See, I can see them wanting to record something a bit different now, almost like a side project, so that they aren't treading on Deftones/Chi, and yet Deftones' stock ain't looking so great after SNW. So if Eros is anything like the last album, I wouldn't be surprised if some new different music made Eros seem wank.

See, here's the thing: I don't trust the Deftones. They basicallly farted out their better albums, and when they start to overthink shit, it starts to go wrong. They most recently they took fucking years to make SNW. Yeah, precisely.

How do I put it? I don't trust their quality assessment. What they've recorded so far on Eros could very well be amazing. Then again, it could also be a direct progression from SNW's material, in which case I hope they get as far away from it as possible Still, as far as I'm concered, the band throwing material away and then focusing on different shit isn't necessarily the greatest idea: look what happened with the Ezrin demos, shit like Buffalo, stuff that was closer to S/T gone prog... and the final record that came to be. They threw great shit away in favour of crap, and I can't help but get the feeling that the band knew that SNW wasn't so hot in hindsight, but not WHY it wasn't.

I have absolutely no problem with them delaying the album or scrapping it entirely (whether for Chi or creativity's sake). I just don't want another one that's as bad as SNW, otherwise I'm gone. Given that the band's aspirations on the last album were to mix in Team Sleep, dilute their lyrics and song writing ability, put synths over EVERYTHING. up their accessibility, start doing instrumentals and try to sound like fucking Mogwai, things aren't smelling so rosy anymore. They can take as long as they want to. I don't care how long it's been. I don't want to be back here complaining like I did with the last album. That wouldn't be worth the wait.

Deftones, get off your arses, and travel back in time to 2004, please. Anything else is just going to disappoint me.

snw would have been good. but it was drastically overproduced. and ive said it o so annoyingly before, but ill say it again, -the ezrin demos would have been sooooooooo awesome if "fulfilled"

Wrong again. He's an artist in the sense of the word "artist" (i.e. see talent), but he's not an artist in the fact that his work isn't known if it will sell or not. He's under a CONTRACT with the record company who pays for their services, regardless. He's not putting his art up in a gallery and just hoping. The band is under contract to produce so many albums throughout the duration of their contract. The problem here is the band will meet that quota, but they are shelving the album he plays on. So he has no choice in the matter and is not involved in the new album. He's not going to make the profits from the sell of the album and the resulting tour, because the band decided to move on without him after only 7-8 months. They should have released a 2-disc album, or released an album in the summer and then the fall. It's screwing the fans over who've been waiting for this album for 2 years and it's screwing Chi over because he will not see any profit from the album sales.

So, you're wrong. He should get paid for the work he did. Not to mention the fact that they are a platinum and gold selling band, so it's a known fact the album will sell and the reasonable expectation is there will be money made from those sales. So he worked for many months for basically nothing. He's not getting paid for his work.

The Deftones will mourn your loss, lol. Don't be dramatic, if you don't like their upcoming album, and they release a badass record after that, you're going to buy it, or at least listen to it. They'll make the record they want to make. They're obviously conscious of how they sound, so they're doing what they want to do, and that's that.

Knowing the Deftones time multiplyer; If they have started writing the  new material recently... The new album will be out in 3 years. So what material are they actually touring then, -- if not Eros...!?

Many people have expressed a distaste for the Deftones continuing on without Chi, and how much it makes them feel sick to think about the 'Tones without him. I have Chi in my mind every day, every day, and I'm sure it's the same with a lot of people on this board. But that being said, another topic brought up in the update is them recording another album and pushing back Eros. It's not healthy to not allow people to talk about anything else but Chi's condition. If the push back of Eros, which arguably could have happened even despite of the recent tragic events involving Chi, makes people upset, I don't think it's wrong to discuss it here. Would it be wrong to discuss it in Chi's thread? Yes. But not here, it's relevant to the update.

Eros probably won't be ever released as a normal album, just as some b sides, I guess they just don't like it anymore. Anyway I would just like some new stuff, and I know people say "how can you say that when Chi is so ill", I appreciate that but to be fair, we've still gotta get on with our stuff, and seeing how they are continuing, they need to put some stuff out for us.
