Title: PJ Harvey
Post by: Gaz on May 27, 2006, 08:15 PM
Having never really listened to anything she has done I watched a live performence a couple of weeks ago and I was blown away at how good she is, can anyone reccomend any albums or songs for me to check out?

She's pretty eclectic in her music man.

I would recommend her first album "Dry" to start off with although it's quite raw and gritty but thats what I prefer. Her most recent album "Uh Huh Her" is awesome and a return to form as the album before that, "Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea" is much cleaner and commercial although that garnered her attention for a possible Mercury prize.

Honestly man you can't go wrong with any of her music.

No probs man.

Check out "Who the fuck?" and "The Letter" off the new album "Uh Huh Her" (should be an easy Limewire misson). If you dig those two tracks you'll love every album pretty much.

Depends.

How long have you been into her? Most fans agree that while Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea is a great album it differs hugely from most of her other albums.

"Dry" and "Uh Huh Her" are not only better imo but are a better example of her songwriting style.

i been into her for 2 years, i have all her albums (from cheap sale) but i know very well only:

To Bring You My Love
Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
Uh Huh Her

they are all diffrent but i prefer Stories... just cause of the sound record and yes myabe this is the most comercial record but i dont mind that, i love it.
About Uh Huh Her, i loved record so much but gone off it within a month, felt like i been listening to it for like a year, hmm wierd, still love it though. To Bring You My Love is classic!

"Stories From The City..." does differ from most of her work, but to me it is flawless! And having Thom Yorke on the album was a good move I reckon, he does enrich it more! "To Bring You My Love" is as ATF says beautiful! "Is This Desire" is an awesome album as well, with tracks like 'A Perfect Day Elise', 'The Garden' and 'The River', fucking great album, pick that one up if you dont have it now! I also got to see her live back in 2003 and yeah, her voice certainly does blow me away, both on record and in the flesh!

Dry. I'd start with Dry.

I think you should get Stories last. It's a beautiful record but get it last. She has a new dvd out and it sucks like no tomorrow. she's an amazing live performer and this dvd does nothing to accentuate that.

So, what your saying is that this isn't a good rip?
Title: Re: PJ Harvey
Post by: Zevaka on Sep 11, 2007, 06:43 PM
well, rip is ok, but bit-rate is ~143 kbps, i never listen to songs below 192, i feel the difference easily. But just to check... 128 even is enough

think I'll wait for something higher than 192. I'm quite surprised that this has leaked, I haven't seen it on Oink yet.

that's the reason: files with bitrate lower than 192 are not allowed on oink. it appeared there several times, but always got deleted in hour or so
good album though, alsmost no music (really!) and some gothic atmosphere...

yeah. She "quit" the guitar and started only in piano. Very dark and smooth album. I really enjoy the atmosphere, but i miss the PJ Harvey rock. She´s very calm and dark.
