uh. i think you should purchase a (cheap?) multiFX. as far as i know fender amps aren't good for distorted sounds and "metal". but i haven't heard it with my own ears. perhaps somebody on this board has and can help you...

okay PLEASE don't get behringer X -Vamp. i have this one and it sucks. i know some guys that are satisfied with korg/ toneworks (AX1500G). sounds good. or get a good soundcard and buy or download guitarrig:). read about it here (http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=guitarrig2_us). you can also download a demo version there. it's a great programm.
and a good soundcard is cheaper than a toneworks AX1500G for example. and sounds very good in my opinion.

No crappy practice amp will get you ATF's tone, its hard enough trying to get it with The Marshall Jmp-1 and 9200 power amp, which he uses on Around The Fur. So save up some pesos.

You dont need stefs setup to get the ATF sound, im using a Korg AX10G multi/eff going into a Marshall Valvestate V8100 2000watt head and 4x12 Marshall Cabinet and i can jsut about mimic the sound he has on ATF, even with my Les Paul

I actually think that White Pony has his most unique and amazing tone. Its just unbelievable.

it depends of what tone you look for.

WP tone, is more finely worked.

but don't buy a multiFX, just to try to get the deftones sound, it could be a mess to use, too much effects.
i use only a few separate pedals and it's more pleasant.

if you really want to buy one, i recommend you a BOSS GT series, really good sound and not that expensive

I've got an original 5150 stack that I got when they first came out (around 1992?). It has one of the most amazing tone qualities i've heard.

Also, be original. Don't just try and perfectly copy someone elses sound. Find what sounds good on YOUR amp and to YOUR ears.

No way, that 5150 can obivously cop some eddie tones right? do you use greenbacks?

I've been through quite a few rack set ups marshalls, and marshall mixed with mesa, but i always sell my shit then get somthing different, right now it's a JVM head and it's the best piece I've ever owned. I actually got a decent Panama tone.

i've been playinguitar since i was 7, but due to constant change in musical interests and my parents not giivng a shit in providing me wit hte tools, I have no concept of modern guitar/amp settings. All i got is a didgitech 2500 which the plugin chord got destroyed so im left wiht a simple practive amp. If i were to buy  quality yet simple to operate pedals specializing in heavy distortion, what should i get?
