this late in the game?
I get you though, I keep voting LMIRL and i know its a favourite of many. Would have been a great closer for the album IMO. I just don't get with the janes addiction vibe of it. I'm just being picky really ;)
I dig phantom bride though.
can acid beat it though? I love acid hologram!
I'm hoping to at least get acid hologram to third place, probably the best we can hope for. I'm voting lmirl.
I keep voting H/W but it won't go, smh...
Acid Hologram will notttt go away

Of course it won't, it's the best song on the album.
Rubicon is so overrated
I like all of these songs in the running now so its a tough choice, but I went with Rubicon. I think it is the most generic sounding song out of the bunch for me. Also the lyrics on Rubicon don't really hit home for me. Although its a great song I am really not surprised with the amount of praise for the song. I guess different strokes for different folks. I couldn't believe when people told me they didn't like Entombed on Koi b/c I absolutely loved it.
Phantom Bride is so cheesy it hurts, I'm sorry. Voting for it again. There is no room for Dad-Rock....
the songwriting's pretty great on pb though, i think,.it all unfolds and feels so natural. great melodies by chino too, never does it go the "wrong way"for me. if people don't like the vibe and sound of it, i get that. (but i dig it.) i can understand cheesy, lame, dad rock etc though. generic rock band sounding, is rubicon for me. love the song, the only minor gripe i have with it is that it sometimes does sound like deftones and sometimes it doesn't.on the border constantly and i'm annoyd that it's so uncertain of what it really is as a song. great closer feel to it tough
Dump Acid for God's sake.

Curious if you are a self title album fan? To me they have a similar feel.
(L)MIRL, its coming down to the wire

Complex question.
S/T was the biggest disappointment for me, besides Gore. But there are songs that are very important to me.
Hexagram strikes a chord with me.
Makes me want to go overseas and fuck shit up, with zero regard for my life.
Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event will be played as the first dance song with my wife at my wedding. Because it's ironic and filled with emotion, which is double irony. BTW, I have been with her since 1999. Neither of us has cheated, or left, ever. I absolutely do not deserve her, she is far, far out of my league.
Acid Hologram has kind of become my least favourite on the album. Things really take off after Doomed User and Acid is pure drudgery to get through.

That's precisely it. S/T is my favorite Deftones album by a long shot, and Acid has a very S/T feel to it.
Acid Hologram wouldn't fit on S/T because Acid Hologram sounds like they actually put some effort into writing the song. If they had written that song during the S/T era, it would've had 2 1/2 riffs to it max.
My vote is for Phantom Bride. I like it, but Cantrell has had so many better solos. Honestly, I prefer Chuck's Instagram clip...lol. (L)MIRL is a much more progressive, better-structured song, IMO. I love the changes in it.
I voted Phantom Bride.
I can't believe Gore is not a favorite. Acid Hologram must be the consensus best song on the album, from what's left!
cantrell's solo is nothing special in itself, that was just hype i think. reviews spoke highly of it, that it stuck out, was the highlight of the song etc. I disagree, it's like the song pauses there for a while, like a small intermission. looking at the whole picture - it's nice that it's there, but the solo is absolutely nothing that steals the show by anymeans. just a little cogwheel in the machinery. the part where it blends with stephens stuff is awesome though

Leave (L)MIRL alone! I went from being ridiculously disappointed in it to absolutely loving it. Voted for Phantom Bride. Love the song, but hey, got to vote for something.
for me LMIRL went from "really, really disappointing" to "meh". so i guess it's a grower

If (L)Mirl goes this round, I'm done.
People need to dump Acid, or its gone.
I sail on these waves. Hey.
Yeah this song could have been much better, the "hey" through the chorus is so lighthearted and playful. Not qualities I listen to deftones for.
LMIRL is my favorite by far, definitely the most interesting song on the album.
To me it has this twisted feeling of a fake reality.

i agree, it's a good solo, but the song stands on it's own regardless(it doesn't steal the show). i think Jerry made it in Stephen's skill set for sure(but Stef will refuse to play it anyway). but, i'm suprised, i consider the begining to hearts/wires more of a solo than even goon squad (h/w a guitar solo for sure i'm gonna say. "dallas" from eros he solos without it even being a question). so, really there's 1 from Stephen there, and 1 from Jerry on phantom. i kinda prefer the hearts/wires solo
and that technical riff in pittura is like a cky riff. freakin nice
'Atrocious' is a really daft description. You cannot possibly criticise someone for exaggeration if you're labelling that chorus as 'atrocious'.

I wasn't suggesting he's
not allowed to. I'm saying there's something weird about criticising someone for exaggeration when you're labelling a chorus like (L)MIRL as 'atrocious'.
There's nothing wrong with not liking it, I just can't fathom why someone would describe it quite like that.
i meant that was a typical Vesanique answer, and that's why we love him
Quote from: MrVesanique on Apr 26, 2016, 03:07 PM...
Yeah, I get why you don't like it. It develops in quite a weird way, that song; like it promises one tone/idea, then shifts along and does the same with the next part. I personally really like it but, like most of the album, it almost feels like there's a concerted effort to avoid any kind of immediate atmospheric/emotional peak.
(L)MIRL really has my favourite chorus and is my fav song on the album. Can't help it. Doesn't sound happy or lighthearted to me, either. Has a longing feel to it that makes it pretty beautiful to me.

That's pretty much why the whole album works for me. You have to really soak in it but to me it feels like there's a lot of unstated depth and there's something about that that makes it a great record.
LMIRL's chorus is fantastic. That being said, I have just voted to eliminate it, regrettably.
the chorus to lmirl possibly talking about sailing out & blowin your brains out off the side of the boat falling in the water? (so i put this gun to my head) first sailing, then slipping into the waves, then deep into the waves
fits most of the dark themes on the album. that's my take on it anyway
when are you doing your review ves?
nah, i confused this topic with the one i talked about doomed user in. derrrrr
If you want (L)MIRL to live, you had better vote for Acid, they are 4 votes away and MIRL is about to lose.
If that happens, that's disheartening.
Acid Hologram is too good to go!
Quote from: MrVesanique on Apr 26, 2016, 05:19 PM...
I certainly wasn't thinking that the reason you dislike it is because "it doesn't stack a shit ton of layers with Chino screaming his head off". I totally understood why you dislike it, which is precisely why I referred to the way it starts with one idea and then shifts onto the next before doing the same thing with that. In other words, I was well aware that the reason you're not keen on that song was because you don't like the multiple left turns. I never made any direct criticism on that point. The only thing I criticised was your description of the chorus as 'atrocious', which you then admitted was over the top. I haven't tried to argue that you
should like it.
All this discussion about (L)MIRL; I've had that chorus swirling around my head all evening!

Phantom Bride was one of my favorites when gore first leaked. now its one of my least favorite. i dont like chino's vocals, too poppy and the end riff and solo are uninspired
I love Phantom Bride and I love LMIRL. To me deftones are totally changing it up on these tracks and that's what I wanted from this record. Something new. Really hope they play Lmirl live.

I don't like the chorus, but the rest of the song more than makes up for it. The chorus sounds too happy. I used to think all of it except the beginning sounded happy, but it doesn't. It does sound very dark and hopeless, but the damn chorus keeps coming in and interrupting that mood throughout the rest of the song.
Haha, the chorus makes the song. It sounds happy, but it's dark shit mayne. He's finding peace in suicide.
lol@lmirl
stick a fork in it, this turkey is coocked!
I'm voting Hearts/Wires guys...
Go ahead, I put the flame suit on. I love the intro, but I think the rest of the song is just so-so. It's not bad, but tt's the only song on the album that I album that I am just not really getting into.
Acid is one of the best, if not the best, song on the record.
