Anyone watched the Pilot?
It was fantastic.
I thought Hannibal was a bleak show, but holy hell, this takes the cake.
So dark. I adore it already. McConaughey's comeback continues into 2014! Also can't wait to see the goods from Harrelson's sidepiece, Miss Depositions, haha.
Even the music is awesome, with T Bone Burnett doing the supervising. Black Angels at the end. And that opening credits theme song...I'm always pleasantly surprised when a show opens with awesome music.
The Handsome Family - Far From Any Road (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGw7KtRxfgU#)
Yeah, loved both the opening song and the end credits song.
this i gotta see!
That Alexandra Daddario sure looks good in her birthday suit.
Amazing show!

That was incredible. Now we have Michelle Monaghan to hopefully look forward to, haha.

The stuff of nightmares...
Damn!
This show has the greatest monologues on tv (and nudity). And how dare they make us wait 2 weeks for the next episode because of the Super Bowl!
Can you say intense? Wow, what an episode.
Those last 20 minutes...that one-take shot. Damn.
Yes, that was so good. This show just keep getting better.
I didn't even realize it was one constant shot until I saw Patton Oswalt mention it on twitter this morning. Sooo intense.

these last few episodes have been beyond good, man.
incredible show. Love it. Scary, exciting, thought provoking all at the same time
Brilliant show is brilliant. I need someone to forcibly remove me from reading theories on future episodes do I don't ruin this show for myself.
GOOD GOD this week's episode was AMAZING!
one more episode. OMG!
So is either of our bros getting out of this alive? They both definitely seem willing to go down in a hail of gunfire if it means taking out the Tuttle cult.

the yellow king
Loved this show so much and I'm gonna miss it immensely, from the opening credits, the incredible acting, the bickering of Hart and Cohle, the philosophical ramblings and minor clues about something deeper. And the surprisingly optimistic ending. Holy shit, that was groin-grabbingly good.
Also, I liked how Cohle had a convenient, badly timed halluciation in the throne room

Da fuck?!
Da fuck is right! So many theories! Great show. What the hell am I going to watch now? I feel like I've just been dumped.
Gonna take a while to get over these guys!!

Yeah for sure. Game of Thrones will definitely help me. And Hannibal and The Americans are good to fall back on, haha.

was that the same swirl thingy chole see's on the tree in the first episode?

(and in the sky like birds in another one) i would like to know where that teleportal takes you. anyway, that final episode was great - carcosa was a scary place :o
Hell? It is a circle....time is a flat circle after all.
Great show. Coincidentally I read "The King In Yellow" in undergrad, so I understood a lot of the "weird supernatural" references.

Good to know there will be a second season but for some reason i just feel that nothing will top season 1.
Season 1 is just a masterpiece of a tv show.
the buildup was way better than the finale though, the last two episodes could've been any other detective movie
i think the dialogue pretty much made season one. i have a lot of hope for season two but that's not going for much haha
I can't wait to hear who will be starring in S2. Potentially 4 main roles too.
Colin Farrell in talks for season 2
http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/colin-farrell-in-talks-for-true-detective-season-two-1201261235/ (http://variety.com/2014/tv/news/colin-farrell-in-talks-for-true-detective-season-two-1201261235/)
so i saw the trailer for series two. i'm still not convinced with vaughn. i will wait to see how he does when the show starts.
A lot of people said the same about McConaughey, but I think he'll be good in this. Same with Colin Farrell - he's incredible in the right role. June 21 can't come soon enough.
DOWNLOADING FIRST EPISODE AND THEN I WANNA TALK.
LEONARD COHEN, YES.
I'll wait for your thoughts. So far all I'll say is, I fucking love Rachel McAdams.
I thought it was a great episode.
Farrell's character is one twisted fuck!
first of all, i'm really noticing fukunaga's absence and secondly, i was right about vaughn. completely miscast. i thought the first episode was very shit and the symbolism was way too obvious. they're either going to have a very unspectacular second season to work up to a better third season or it will pick up. i'm hoping it's the latter. some of the dialogue was really contrived. i felt like they were personally apologising to me by using an ellis and cave song in the end.
overall i'm very disappointed, but i will keep watching.
and they had access to cohen's entire discography and made a bad choice. i'm not feeling the opening song for the show and i say this as a big cohen fan.
I thought that song at the end sounded familiar. I can see your complaints, and I'm not in on Vaughn just yet. I think he's got it in him to be alright in this role.
Had no problem with the script though. Contrived? I guess maybe somewhat, but when I tune in to TD, I want some dark characters, with dark philosophies and dialogue, and that makes me happy. Maybe the way everything was delivered was a little contrived, but I still dig it.
And like I said before, I'm in no matter what. If it's half as good as last year, I'll like it. Of shows that I'm watching right now, a mediocre TD is still my 2nd favorite show after Hannibal.
i'm just...not feeling vaughn whatsoever. but i've thought he's shit in everything. colin farrell was good. i also liked mcadams.
the insults didn't make sense. there was no dark philosophies and dialogue really. and when it tried to go there that's when it sounded contrived. i don't want another season one because that's already been done and it was brilliant, but i feel it shouldn't try so hard.
and taylor kitsch with his erectile dysfunction. omg.
well from what I've heard (a podcast I just conveniently listened to), critics have seen 3 eps, and each gets better and better. If that means more smoking, snorting coke, drinking Modelo, and a bottle of scotch, then putting on a ski mask, I'm alllllll in.

Hopefully that is the case. I think it's early to judge the potential of the season after just one episode. It usually takes at least a few episodes for shit to get really good, and for me to truly get into said shit.
i read an article that they had access to three episodes. i'll see if it does. i have a really shitty feeling about vaughn. he just looks out of place. i'm loving this self-destructive route velcoro is on. i was cringing at everything he was doing almost like, "DON'T DO IT, BITCH. DON'T DO IT!" and then he goes and does it.
i don't hate it. i know it comes off as i do but i don't. i think the slowness is great. i just miss the southern twaaaaang haha
So I guess now I'm going all Game of Thrones for the end of this episode. Can't be dead.
And I liked Vaughn in this one. I think he's doing alright, even if sometimes I'm picturing him as his character in Wedding Crashers when he walks around. His monologue was pretty awesome, maybe not quite on the level of Rust Cohle's best, but I dug it.
Moar Bezzerides looking up pr0n, please. And drunk mayor FTW. Kinda weird how much I laugh during this show.
omg i just finished episode 2. wtfffff?!? why would he go check the house out on his own? bird head guy is fucking brutal. that fucking bird is creeping the fuck out of me. i also don't think he's dead. velcoro is the only thing this show has got going on. calling an e-cig a "robot's dick" is genius.
still not buying vaughn.
and mcadams just reminded me that i need to masturbate tonight. cheers, my lady.

beat you to it
Frank's story about how his dad would lock him up in the basement while he was out drinking was brutal
could it be one of those guns that isn't a gun? you know, one of those guns that have something else in them besides bullets. oh, forget it. i hate guns.
i think he might have been wearing a vest. he can't die. he's in the rest of the show. unless he's there in flashbacks. nah. not dead. can't be.
Gotta be a vest. And yeah, could've been those beanbag rounds they use for riots. Or rock salt rounds.
Maybe birdman shot off his dick like they specifically/horribly showed earlier in the episode, and wanted to keep him alive.
no. not his dick!
i don't think he's dead. i think this will have a changing affect on his character though, and if so, i would love to see that progression.
that wasn't loud? i thought it was loud. but i'm almost 100% they're not bullets.
i don't remember seeing blood but it ended so abruptly.
i can't stand vaughn there. he is ruining the whole show for me. never seen someone so fucking miscast.
stronger episode. killer opening. i loved it. too much screen time for vaughn. he is just shit. i cannot believe his character at all.
total kudos for the will oldham song at the end. that man is my soul.
That opening was outstanding. Definitely think each episode is getting better. And every scene that has the mayor in the background, drink in hand, has me laughing my ass off. I want even more of his family now.
I still disagree about Vaughn though. I think this one put me in his corner now. He convinced me, especially with the club scene. Not once did I think about Wedding Crashers.
why are mayors always so corrupt? haha
i'm really deep in feelings about velcoro. man has won over my heart mighty quick. i'm just not buying vaughn. i've tried. he's a major flaw in this show.
I like Ray too. I really want a redemption story.
i don't think it'll end well for him. bezzerides is warming to him and man, did he save her life. i think mcadams' character is probably named after a. i. bezzerides. something will likely happen between bezzerides and velcoro though. i'm such a cliche but i hope so!

Anyone count how many times Bezzerides said "Fuck" during the shoot out? Made me giggle.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Had to be a couple dozen haha. I let an audible "Noooo" when Dan from Deadwood got headshotted in that Heat-like shootout. This show really knows how to end episodes.
So the drunk mayor orchestrated the shootout, right?
Mariam, I know you hate Vaughn, but come on this line was pretty sweet: "Things move fast now, babe. Someone hit the fucking warp drive and I'm trying to navigate through the blur." COME ON.
when is vince vaughn gonna fuck off and die.
and gay as fuck paul better not marry a woman. it'll be the most cliche fucking closeted gay shit to do. but of course he will do it. enjoy popping viagra and staying in the bathroom for 20 mins for the rest of your life.
I loved it when the closeted gay dude was telling the fat slob cop how "some fag was staring at me at the check out, and I was about to clock him". His response/face was enjoyable.
I actually enjoy vince Vaughan in this show. He's a good shit talker
I'm still enjoying this, and having fun watching it. Sure there are faults. Like who the hell is Stan; what happened to Birdman; who cares about Blake; me wanting more Bohemian Grove and Santa Muerte stuff. With Vince Vaughn, I'm enjoying him - he is usually either pretty good or so bad it's hilarious and awesome (and some of it could be chalked up to some lame writing).
But I love my crime dramas, and where else on tv am I going to find (mostly) awesome actors going on benders, spewing random existential, sometimes cliched nonsense, while solving some fucked up crimes? This is pretty much exactly what I want in a show like this.
And give me more depressing bar scenes.
Fucking loved that finale. CHP Woodrugh Memorial Highway forever!
hey mark, do you know what my favourite bit of dialogue was??
Oh man, I don't know. There was so much magic. Was it Frank repeatedly saying "Two weeks. Or less." to everyone?
So why couldn't we get more of the bar owner and Nails this season, instead of Woodrugh's mom and Stan's family? And why didn't we even find out Frank's driver was named Nails until the finale?

i video'd my favourite line on my instagram hahaha "you can't act for shit"
seeing frank die left me so conflicted. why let him achieve so much and then kill him off in the most cliched way?? and not fucking fair to not let us see all the corrupt arseholes not get their due.
ray's dad watching the telly was the part that made me really sad.
Agreed on the Ray's Dad part. That was probably the ultimate sad moment.
But that ending was exactly what I liked. I love when shows and movies have depressing or bad endings. Things rarely work out the way you want. Also makes you look for some sort of silver lining. Like the ginger kid really was Ray's (even though he never officially knew) and now he's got a second son. And the hope that the reporter Ray beat up will actually successfully bring the bad guys into the public eye and get some justice.
Wasn't the first season kind of similar in that regard? The main characters may have survived, but with the exception of Lawnmower Man the bad guys (especially with money) stayed free I think.
i love those types of endings too but the way frank went out was just borderline boring for me. ray's ending was a lot more believable. i would like to think that ani and jordan get married and raise ray's son together.
the first season had a lot more to it and a lot more substance than this season did. i think every twist and turn and every piece of dialogue had a place within the wider context of the narrative. season two: not so much.
This is still my favorite scene of the season, with the added bonus that it accurately predicted exactly how Ray would die.

omg another lawnmower moment. fuck. i didn't even think about this. colin farrell was so good. he was totally making me swoon.
