Or does this new groupie-ish deftones fanbase piss those of you REAL fans off almost as much as the NEW deftones? All I hear about is diamond eyes this, fucking rosemary that. Like the fuck bro? White Pony, ST, and SNW all pwn the fuck out of these last 2 albums. You ask them what their favorite song is and they'll say You've seen the butcher or sextape LMFAO.
Shit seriously makes it just that much harder for me to accept DE and KNY on top of the fact they're commercial as fuck. Half of them don't even know what eros is. Meh whatever, I listen to WAY more Team Sleep than deftones these days anyway.
Deepest condolences if this thread has been made before; too lazy to search right now.

No I love the fact more people are getting into Deftones music and I think you've confused your own opinion for fact, all Deftones stuff is good music and everyone is going to have their own favourites there are not right or wrong answers when it comes to something as subjective as music. Also I don't see what you mean by the whole commercial thing either I don't think any attempt was to made to become mainstream.
These are just opinions. Care about your own opinion and don't care about others. Waste of time. Listen to Deftones instead.....
You sound like an idiot.

Do you care? Pff I'm beginning to hate it here....

i know what you mean, but i dont give a fuck about other people

Yes. White Pony is a masterpiece, it has tough songs to get into (Pink Maggit, Knife Party, Feiticeira) but it also has Change, RX Queen, Street Carp on it. It's always the same debate, commercial or not ? Who gives a damn, KNY is to me their best effort since S/T, there it is, I just said it -btw I didn't like the album at all on the first couple of listens, and I've been listening to Deftones since the release of WP, there it is for the "I'm a true ol' school fan" justification if anybody cares.

Oh yes, although it's gotten a little old since Poltergeist.

Peace and all that.
Some perfect examples of the fanboys/girls I'm referring to in this thread haha. In contrast to anything prior, DE and KNY are polished as fuck and your IQ is in the double digits if you think otherwise. DE is kinda shit, and KNY is complete shit. Ya it's my opinion, but it's fucking on point; deal with it.

Not a god damn thing bad about Sextape. I've been listening since 97' so don't try calling me a new fan either. It's a beautiful song.

Haha hypocrite this whole thread is about you not handling other peoples opinions , Just go uppercut yourself before say anything else stupid
Yeah... DE and KNY aren't any more "commercial" than their previous albums. They may have a lighter tone in places but I dare say that was most likely influenced by the effect Chi's incident had on the guys. The way I see it, the guys should do what feels natural to them and I appreciate that whatever it is. Don't be "sitting around and throwing a fucking fit" just because it's not the music you want them to be making, or the same as the music they made in the past. The band has always grown and evolved as their lives went on, no two albums are quite the same. Everyone gets that feeling towards 'new fans' at times but come on man, grow up a bit. I bet you were just like one of those people you described to a band you only started being a fan of at some point. Don't be such a dick. We're all in this together. I hope in light of today's events you'll reconsider what you've said here and be a bit more open-minded. I think you'll be happier if you get rid of that hate and stop caring what other people are doing. Rosemary is an awesome song by the way. And we all love Team Sleep.
Exactly White Pony had more commercial success than anything else but it still's an amazing album and I remember seeing an interview when Chino talked about the affect Chi's accident had he said he started to look at things more positively and stopped taking things for granted because it seemed pathetic being sad over little stuff when compared to Chi they were extremely lucky.

Not offended. You're just dumb as shit. Saying that the last two albums are "commercial" is asinine. The band has already proven that they could write a radio hit if they wanted to (see Back 2 School). Did their last two albums even have any sort of mainstream attraction? I think not. Therefore, they're not "commercial" in the least. If you think KNY and DE are commercial, you might as well call bands like Failure, Hum, and Quicksand the same because the band's sound holds more in common with them than anyone currently receiving any sort of pop success today.
And for the record, my favorite song is Be Quiet and Drive. That said, I fucking love their last two albums.
I was listening to Deftones when you were still a slow ass seed in your fathers swampy balls and I like that the band keeps gaining new fans. Jesus you sound like a 14 year old that wants his favorite band all for himself.
Why not just be happy that the band still can make amazing music that attracts new fans? It's not like they sold out and switched fanbase entirely. Grow up, will ya?
yes its just you.
Why is it that all of you preach how everyone is entitled to have an opinion until someone says something negative? Bza is not entirely wrong in what hes saying, and neither are any of you necessarily, because non of you are actually stating facts for the most part. Its just theories and opinions, you all have good points, BUT the truth of the matter is you are fucking stupid if you have not noticed how Deftones have changed. And yes I'm going to get the speech about how they change with each album blah blah blah, but I think this is the biggest change they have gone through.... and that's fine and dandy, but will never truly make sense for me personally... I can choose to state the fact that I don't really enjoy or feel that emotionally invested in the music they've recorded ever since Chi's accident.
I can actually agree that I do feel a bit irritated because every single damn girl I know that knows Deftones says "OH EM GEE, "SEXTAPE" IS TEH BEST" when all I can think is "Have you ever fucking heard "Pink Maggit"? "Mascara"? "Digital Bath"?" But of course, I never say that (well i do to the girls close to me lol) because everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if I know that personally, "Sextape" is not their best song, its not the worst, but nothing close to how great most of the newer fans say it is, and the reason they think it is so great is because Deftones in general, (even, in my own opinion, when at their weakest like on Diamond Eyes/Koi No Yokan) are still fucking amazing when compared to the complete dogshit music they brainwash the sonically illiterate, near brain-dead kids of our age into loving.... So of course anyone with any sense whatsoever is going to claim the only "ballad" they know from Deftones is the greatest most heartbreaking piece of earsex theyve experienced.... What it all comes down to is limited knowledge.... Those people who claim the newer songs are the best are only saying that because they aren't really aware of the older stuff because they are literally n00b's. But there's nothing wrong with that.... I won't judge them for that.... They just need to research a little better and if they still decide that "Sextape" is the best after hearing what I think are the BETTER songs, that's still their opinion, but not mine, and it will stay that way....
And when people say the new stuff is commercial, Im pretty sure they don't mean commercial in the same way as Taylor Swift and Lil Wayne. They mean its "Commercial hard rock". It sounds as if in an alternate world where you didn't have the prerequisite respect you have for it because its Deftones upon first listening to it, you would lump it in with shit bands like 30 Seconds To Mars, Stone Sour, Bush, etc. That is not what Deftones was ever supposed to sound like, why is that so hard for you all to understand? Deftones was always so emotional, so abstract and yet so real, so authentic, sometimes eerie, so dark and edgy.... But now.... Its over polished, somewhat upbeat, overly dramatic, not very sincere...... Eh, Ive said this before but you will all just choose to disagree somehow.... Dont listen to me.....
Probably because that guy keeps just posting dumb shit like this , I think the rest of us were just saying the older is still our favourite stuff but we're glad new people are getting into Deftones, eventually those people will listen to the other stuff you have to start somewhere after all. I think it's wrong to say this wasn't what Deftones was meant to sound like only the band members can determine what the music should sound like it's just natural for bands to change there music as the band members get older and settle themselves, Music is just all about the state of your own life for every person who thinks the new stuff is weak and mellow there is someone else connecting to it.

You're the one who can't handle other people's opinions. Now go back under your bridge and fuck off already..
I've been listening to Deftones since I was 12/13 ish.. that was ohh 14 years ago? White Pony will always be my favorite, but to say that DE and KNY are shit, shows how much of a closed minded individual you are. KNY is their best album since Self Titled.
Deal with it.
I would like to meet these "new deftones fans" you people speak of. I haven't met someone who "just got into the deftones" since probably the White Pony days. Are you people hanging out with teenagers or am I really just that old and anti-social?

LOLZ I agree...is there like some bar where old fans are mixing with new fans? Haha
I remember when White Pony came out, old school fans were talking shit about the "new" fans etc etc It's a never ending cycle. People holding on to wha they think matters. What matters is that Deftones is still alive and kicking.

Great quote.
The more the merrier. I'll be glad if the Deftones go platinum. I don't think about it as them "going mainstream", if they get more fans. I think about life being a lot easier for them and their families if they sell more albums. They deserve some recognition. They're one of the greatest/influential bands in the world, and they get outsold by bands that sell by their looks instead of talent. If any band deserves to live comfortably, it's the deftones.
Does it really matter if something is commercial or not? blah blah blah.....
Im sure WP, Self Title and SNW did better chart wise than the last 2 albums? Surely thats better for you that less people are listening to them?
I go to a gig and see young teens thinking they're cool knowing about 5 or 6 songs and inside i think TWAT!....but really that was just me 15 years ago!
Im too old to care anymore, i dont care if its cool to like a certain album or not, or if i think I'm a more important fan becuase i prefer the drugged up era or not! Who frikin cares man, get off the high horse and stop caring if people just like DE and KNY! Theyre entitled to just as much you are not to!
My gf is a "new Deftones" fan, she knows them since 2 years ago, and one of her favorite songs are 7 Words, BQAD, Root, DIgital Bath.. so yes, maybe it's you ;D

Sextape is one of my favorite Deftones songs. Do you have a problem with that?
I got into the band after WP was released, some time before S/T. I bet a lot of older fans had similar feelings towards the new fans of WP. That's just how it goes when a band breaks and attracts more popularity. The key thing for me isn't
when you got into the band, it's that you respect the band enough to give all their material a fair chance. And that you respect all their material enough to understand that different people enjoy different things, and what's your favorite songs might not be another fans favorite songs.
Well said this sort reminds of how I was when I was a bit younger I was pretty close minded and was only into metal stuff anything softer or slow I just called commercial and took the piss out of it saying it was gay and stuff, But then I got into Deftones and through them talking about all the different music they listened to I decided to give everything a chance now I listen to everything from Metal to Ambient stuff, I think this guy just needs to grow up a bit it's so much better when you are more open and judge music purely by how it sounds as soon as you start rejecting stuff because it's not what you're used to or because it's "commercial" you limit yourself and miss out on alot of amazing music.

It's a hater's job to hate.
WP and ATF have been my favorites by the group depending on my mood, but DE and KNY have their own places for me. I considered DE my third favorite by the group for a while and KNY (although not my favorite) has grown on me significantly more than any other disc. I hated Swerve City and Goon Squad on first listen and now Swerve is on of the tracks I enjoy most on KNY. DE and KNY are different than their other records without a doubt, but not necessarily in a bad way. The fan base is deepening and Deftones are earning more of the respect that they deserve.
