....possibly one of the best Deftones songs ever made
It could be the best if he screamed on the "Wild" parts, like he does live.
why

Poltergeist might be the first Deftones song that I think sounds better live.
Poltergeist just blew me away!
Steph is putting his 8-string to a really good use here.

I agree with that. It's pretty fucking awesome.

ftfy
It's going to be a classic in my book, that's for sure. Whenever I listen to it in the car I clap along to the intro and then almost die in a horrific car accident because you cannot steer and clap at the same time.
na maybe top 20 of all time... just maybe.
Because it sounds like it came from the Around The Fur sessions?

Agreed, that part sounds so lazy on the album, it ruins the song a bit for me.
Here's a live version with Chino screaming that part the second time around: Deftones - Poltergeist (formerly know as Roller Derby) - Live @ The Troubadour - 07/28/2012 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP1aweSlV4I#ws)
It is a unique song on the new album but it's not the best. It's wild and chaotic like they haven't quite done before so I give it that and do enjoy it quite a lot.
It a really good song,I like how it rises and falls it's very rhythmic I especially like the bit before the "this timeeee" lyrics it's cool how it sort of sounds like it's suspended in the air and then it comes crashing back down. Very solid song but not in my top ten it just lacks that real emotion that songs like Pink Maggit and Digital Bath have.
Overrated
Yes. 2:14. That's all I want on the studio version!

agree. to perform a lazy "wild" at the end is cool like as if he's exhausted, but a scream at 2:14 would be bad ass.regarding chino's voice,it would make more sense to once scream in the studio version and then hold it back live all these other times
Finally posting in here again (OP), I like the "lazy" sounding "Wild" part because it sounds like he is saying it in a tired, sick of it way- like the girl or whoever is stressing him out and he can't take it - driving him "WILD"

Totally agree. Its unique. Love how he doesn't scream it
i like it too, but why not a scream only at that one suggested time, mix it up a little
I love the song, one of my favorites frm the album, and it woulda been cool if he did scream the 'wild' parts like he did live. Most of all though, I like the tone of it, that it has this playful kinda vibe to it. It makes a change frm the overly-sad, overly-happy sounding music they've been making a lot of recently. Has a slightly older feel to it because of it (not musically, just the vibe I get frm it).
most gave a shit about the earlier bootleg performances.
i was watching y'all
i aint buying this whole "i love it now" charade.
The studio version changed my perspective completely for the song. Something about the voice effects and the music in the final version just sound great.

thats something hipsters would say. fuck that.
I think it's reasonable for someone to not initially like the live version but then like the studio one, I doubt it can totally reverse someone's opinion like someone's not going to think it's absolute shit and then fall in love with it but I think it can elevate the song a bit with all the subtle nuisances that are drowned out live, especially with Frank who is often overwhelmed by the others live.
I love the old skool dub echo effects on Chino's vocals.

Yes this is what gets me I think. Reminds me alot of effects on his voice in older, classic Deftones songs.
Poltergeist is a top tune!...i still prefer Goon Squad off KNY though
Yeah, the effects on Chino's vox are well done on this album. Like this song, What Happened to You, Graphic Nature, etc.

I'm pretty sure it's the opposite... a "hipster" would say something more like:
"Yeah I liked it before there was a studio version."
OR
"Nah, I don't like that song.. it's too popular."
OR
"thats something hipsters would say. fuck that."
Get the point?
niggas please,
with deftones, shit rocks or it just does not.
if you can't really tell from the get go. whatever.
i'm not saying albums or music can't grow on you. it can, and it will.
i'm just saying you gotta know your shit, especially when it comes to deftones.

Great tune :-X
Poltergeist is geil.
