Interviewing Chino next week the day of the Palladium show. Shoot me your questions/ideas so I can make this interesting and entertaining.
I know you guys can come up with some good shit. And this isn't my forte, so I need your help.
Thanks!
Hello,
Ask to Chino :
1/ Have you already took voices's lessons ? / Have a coach vocal ?
2/ What's your favorite part : writing, recording, live performance ?
3/ Which song is the more personal to you ?
Somebody already asked about vocal lessons yesterday and Chino said no,Could ask aboutwhich new song they most enjoy playing or ask them what they are listening to at the moment ,Please just don't ask what koi no yokan means lol
You could try asking them about Eros. But don't be like EVERY FUCKING interviewer and ask if it "WILL EVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY". Ask for something a little more specific. That's what I would do. Maybe how the album sounds? Whether its darker/lighter, etc.?

Yeah you have to be careful about that and also Chi you see them sort switch off sometimes in interviews especially after being asked about Chi their heads just sort of drop and you can tell their heads are somewhere else
Yeah I would avoid the Chi topic as well. Seems like a major enthusiasm killer.

Ok thanks.
Maybe not official's vocal lessons but at least, when you are recording in studio, a lot of people helps you to find tricks like "you should try to do this thing for this note" or "maybe you should try to do this line this way"...
I'm sure he has a lot of people "working" for his "voice" over the years, like everybody does.
It doesn't means he's a bad singer.

Yeah i wonder if he got some advice especially when he hurt his throat I've heard a few stories of metal singers getting traditional vocal lessons to help avoid injury then again Chino's vocals would be pretty hard to teach lol, also you should look up Droid video Recording with Chino has some cool footage of him just going nuts screaming in the studio
I wish he'd scream like he did in the video now.... :(
And I think I did hear about him getting a vocal coach of some sort to help him when he injured his voice, but I think it was more because he was struggling to even speak let alone sing....
I suspect we may hear more screams in the palms stuff, also you could ask Chino about Palms im really pumped to hear it

My guess would be mascara he said it was about his ex wife and how he was proud of the album they had just finished so he convinced her to go drive around with him and listen to it so he played the whole new cd for her but when they got home she just didn't say anything about it not even anything bad she didn't seem to care he said it broke his heart.

Ask him about the third Crosses Ep
whats your weigthloss secret?
Make sure that if the rest of the band is also there, you don't totally ignore them. Like that interview posted here two weeks ago. God that was emberrassing

I've read about the same he had doctor visits which had him rehab speeches or methods that had him gaining his voice back. I'm sure there's something about it on deftonesworld.

Deftones - Mascara + Interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrcyPY8lfdA#)
Thanks.
Chino seems so sincere, honest, emotional. I can feel his pain in every word.
I miss that era.
Don't go in there like a total fan, you're there to do a job. Have universal questions that you can ask any member of the band. Remember that they have answered your questions 100 times before, I ended up having a 10 minute conversation about crumpets and blueberry jam with Troy Sanders. Keep some of them totally original and bounce off their questions to answer your next one, the interview needs to flow for it to work. If its for radio, keep little breaks in between questions so its easier to edit and don't forget to Mage sure your recording device is turned on.
At your leisure time what is your Daw of choice for playing around with sounds? (Whole Band) and fav Plugins? etc
ask them about cheeseburgers
For you what is the perfect moment and place to write lyrics? day/night/in the studio/rehearsing/alone/with the band.
Question :
are you guys doing a tour to support Koi No Yokan?
Are there any B-Sides for KNY?
What is the Diamond Eyes B-side name, and will it ever be released or played live?
What are the inspirations for each song/the album? What are some themes the band explored on this album?
Any specific KNY recording stories/memories?
How do you feel you have progressed as a band since the release of, say, WP?
Does the band plan on expanding their live sets to more rarely played material?
In what specific ways do you think KNY has helped the band progress their sound?
ETC fags
Here is another one:
If there is a song from SNW, DE or KNY that could fit on Eros which song would you pick?
Just make sure its nothing like the q and a the other day!!!
Quote from: bebo on Nov 15, 2012, 04:23 AM
Are there any B-Sides for KNY?
The answer is no.there were 2 more songs, but chino never recorded vocals for them. They were supposed to record some covers, but it never happend.
You could ask them if they still plan on recording the covers.
Reluctance to release live material?
more ACOUSTIC material?
2nd b-sides collection?
2nd covers vinyl?
In my chance encounters w/ bands I grill them for info on current and future projects. The past is said and done, ya know?

It would be so much easier to just put vocals on the 2 extra kny songs when the music's already recorded than to cover other songs where they have decide how to cover them and then to record every instrument again. I would prefer one kny extra track over five covers, easily. but yeah, ask about if the unreleased d.e track will show up on a b-sides rarity II or under any other circumstances
Ask him which song off of KNY he is looking most forward to playing live that they haven't already played.

heres a good one and please dont bash me for it guys... ask chino or steph if a SELENA cover will ever see the light of day??? ;)
Ask them if they have pine cladding and plastic covers on their sofas.
Tell him to get back into being shitfaced, then dwell on how much Chi's absence is hurting him then get the rest of the band as fucked up then write an album.
If you can interview Stephen, ask him if he plans to drop the tuning down on his 8 string on the next session of songs he plans to write in the future.
Ask Chino what are some current vocalist/artist he has been listening to/inspired from, perhaps maybe during KNY sessions.
Will there ever be a possibility for a double album, in the future for Deftones?
Inquire about a change in the live set list or them opening with Swerve City or Rosemary instead of Diamond Eyes. Ask what other songs off the new album they plan to take to the stage. Do they get enough time while on the road to make a change to the setlist... If they are off for a couple days from shows, would that be enough time to prepare a new set list?
Ask Abe if he feels like he has become a better drummer since the release of say ... White pony? Or just ask if the guys in the band feel like they are maturing as musicians... I'm sure that'll spark something.
fin
Thanks all for the questions!! Between you guys and my friend I've got a good list.
Feel free to add any others... I'll be checking this again Tuesday.
I'll let you know how it goes and will post a link to the video interview when it's done. (After Thanksgiving)
Thanks again!

so did the interview ever happen?
Ask him about the M83 Collaboration? I rememberer about some pictures about the deftones and m83 in a studio in france...did anything happened with that or was it just a typical deftones waste of time???
Ask him why they haven't made a decent album in almost a decade

ask if steph is tired of being in the band since he didn't do one interview for the kny record and because the riffs he brought to the album was mega lazy

Probably because Chino ends up answering all the questions, I'm pretty he did an interview with ultimate guitar and some of the magazine stuff though

Dude, people ask him about the lyrics all the time. They have for years. I love chino's lyrics but it's a topic that's been pretty much well covered in past interviews. Do some research and you'll find the answers you want rather than asking another boring question/variation of a question he's answered a million times.

Yeah i remember seeing him being asked a similar question about how he writes he said there was no particular time or place he writes he said he just does it whenever he gets inspired whether be in the studio after hearing the actual music or when he's just by himself

in the ultimate guitar interview he doesn't talk about kny, he talks about guitars. He ends the interview with something like "we will be releasing a new album in late summer for those who are interested" but that's the only thing I've heard him say about on the album.hopefully there's something more out there i haven't heard bc i think the founder of the band really should say something more about a new record, not just mention it once
Yeah he should i would like to hear more from him he usually does interesting interviews Chino always seems to get asked the same questions so he gives the same responses,Maybe it was to do with the record company they might have just made Chino do them because he's like the face of the band.
I think Stephen likes to let the music speak for itself. He's never been the biggest fan of interviews and he accepts Chino is the mouthpiece of the band that most of the press want to talk to. Judging from the smile on his face when they play live, he's very happy with the new material and enjoying being part of the band. He just chooses not to do the whole press thing. Can't say I blame him. I think KNY is some of his best guitar playing by the way.

Gauze and Poltergeist have some especially kickass riffs, IMO.

yeah i know he smokes a lot of weed on stage to cope with that part of his job and to feel better, but why not smoke weed when it comes to interviews too if that what it takes
