What are the best tracks on Koi No Yokan?
You can pick 3 songs, and change your vote later on.
Poltergeist, Romantic Dreams and Gauze. Entombed woulda come fourth, but I wasnt allowed to pick a fourth.
Gauze,Rosemary and what happend to you?.romantic dreams wouldev been forth.
Entombed into Graphic Nature is one of the best song transitions I've ever heard. I love the little solo on Swerve City so much, so simple but so effective. Those are my 1, 2, 3.
I thought I had worn out Leathers, Poltergeist, Tempest, and Rosemary prior to the drop. But now that I've had all the tracks sink in they're starting to sound bigger and bigger.
What Happened to You? and Rosemary would be my 4 and 5.
I wasn't that into Romantic Dreams, Gauze, or Goon Squad at first but like the 4 preview tracks, the more I listen to them the more profound they're becoming.
This really is their best since WP. I fucking loved SNW and DE but damn, this album is like a wave.
Entombed I've loved Rosemary since the live versions first starting going up on youtube and Goon Squad I didn't really like the song when I first heard it. But that opening line "I carve my name across your towns!" man.
Man I can't choose.. I really love the guitarwork on Poltergeist though... FUCK!! SHIT!!
1.Poltergeist
2.Graphic Nature
3.Goon Squad
i would have to say Poltergeist, Gauze, Goon Squad
Romantic Dreams and Entombed are growing on me every listen
can easily play the whole cd all the way threw and not skip a single track
Voted for Poltergeist, Romantic Dreams and Graphic Nature
As of now, I like every song except Leathers. Especially What Happened To You?, Rosemary, Tempest and Goon Squad are great as well
shouldn't we do a survivor-type poll instead, like with DE?
Poltergeist and Gauze are the standouts for me. And Goon Squad gets honourable mention for its quiet, haunting opening (which would only be half as good if the end of rosemary didn't precede it.)
goon squad, romantic dreams and rosemary
goon squad
poltergeist
rosemary
Entombed
Gauze
What Happened To You ?

I was hoping for that.
If Leathers wasn't released ahead of time, do you think that everyone would like it more? Personally I think it's a great track
Romantic dreams and goon squad are tied for me. Graphic Nature comes next.
Fantastic fucking album.
Rosemery is the distinct leader but don't have opinion for rest yet.
swerve city and goon squad are my current faves

good idea, aint gonna keep track though.. so anyone willing to create it go for it
Graphic Nature
Goon Squad
Entombed
Leathers is dead last, although there have been a massive comeback from one song in the DE Shootout I don't see it growing.
1. "Rosemary" (the best structured song on the whole album)
2. "Good Squad" (Probably the closest thing to an old school Deftones song on the whole album)
3. "Poltergeist" (Sounds badass at times because of how much bass the whole song has cus it sounds either Sergio turned his shit up, or Steph is using his lowest strings the whole time)
4. "Romantic Dreams" (Love the melodic part of the verse where Chino screams "Tonight, the stage is yours!", probably one of my favorites parts in a Deftones song ever, wish Terry had produced that part though, would've sounded fucking beyond dope)
Poltergeist
Tempest
Rosemary
1. Romantic Dreams
2. Poltergeist
3. Graphic Nature
Rosemary first, I guess it is of of them masterpieces for sure, the transition to Goon Squad is preety trippy, and then it comes heavy again, my God its awesome.
But my second vote is for Romantic Dreams wich is such a great song, love the vocals here.
And the third is for Gauze, love every member's job in that one, epecially frank and chino.
Of course my list will change, as yours will too, but Rosemary probably will be in the 1st position always. Btw I freaking LOVE this album, absolutely better than DE and SNW.
I chose Poltergeist, Graphic Nature and Gauze.

Like this idea but we should wait until a week after the official release I think.
I picked Romantic Dreams, Poltergeist and Goon Squad - but I really wanted to pick Graphic Nature
This was really tough, but I had to go with...
1. Romantic Dreams
2. Rosemary
3. Goon Squad
Entombed,Gauze and What Happened To You?
Entombed, Rosemary and What happened to You are classics.

AGREED.
They're all so fucking good though. Ugh. LOVE them all. Super pumped to own the physical copy of Koi No Yokan.
Gauze, Leathers, Entombed.
Goon Squad, Poltergeist, Romantic Dreams
Swerve City deserves more love - the bridge alone is so smooth

funny, Swerve City is prolly my favorite next to Poltergeist. The imagery in the lyrics, "floating through space" kind of verses and bridge. the song's very cinematic to me.
is it because it sounds like Mein a bit? the "Ohh's" in the chorus? The otherwise lame numetal riff it starts with is actually quite effective in this song i feel.
i vote rosemary, romantic drean and graphic nature , ...but leather and enombed and potegeist are amazing too
i voted for poltergest, gauze, and goon squad
today it's entombed, goon squad + rosemary.
graphic nature is fast becoming a favorite.
gauze all day long
1. Rosemary
2. Poltergeist
3. Entombed
most overrated so far: Gauze

I was one of the few who didn't mind Mein. Swerve City had a cool sounding bridge and I liked the "she breaks her horses line" but the song ends before it begins for me. It just seems like there should be more. Chino's ohh's play a small role also but I like Romantic Dreams. I may just need to give the new style more time. Not a bad song, just stood out less than the others to me.
romantic dreams
tempest
goon squad

It's ok, just wanted someones opinion on it as it doesn't get much votes. I also never understood the hate towards Mein but thats another topic lol.
because i didnt put mine yet:
1. Poltergeist
2. Swerve City
3. Entombed
4th would be Gauze
I went with Tempest, Rosemary and Romantic Dreams. This will almost certainly change a lot though.
What's up with all the no-love for Swerve City?

What's up with all the no-love for Swerve City?
And Leathers??
I think it's down to the fact Leathers was the first song released and everyone played it out. The response to the song was mostly positive here, if I remember right, so I bet things would be different if it wasn't already out there months ago.
Anyway, my favourites are Swerve City, Rosemary and... i'll go with Poltergeist. All three songs are mindblowingly heavy in their own ways.
It's funny to note that, according to fans, neither choice for the first single (Leathers/Tempest) was a very strong song, relatively speaking. I'm sure listener fatigue is a factor, but then most of us also heard Rosemary a few weeks early and it's winning the poll, so that can't be the whole reason. Honestly, I agree that both are among the weakest cuts on KNY. Not sure how much it really affects sales for a band like Deftones that don't get much radio play (in this day and age), though.
The poll isnt displaying correctly for me and is jumbled so maybe someone can tell me what the top 3 are right now?
My vote goes to Poltergeist hands down as the best song. It's classic deftones kickassedness with heavy powerful riff much like MOS.
Rosemary is 2nd on my list and will go down in my opinion as one of the best all time songs among deftones fans.
3rd place on this album is goon squad for me but i do like entombed and WHTY.
I'm going with the trio of 1. Gauze 2. Rosemary 3. Goon Squad
That's a damn strong bottom half of the album. Love the whole album.
Quote from: NicholasHume on Nov 10, 2012, 06:23 PMIf Leathers wasn't released ahead of time, do you think that everyone would like it more? Personally I think it's a great track
i'm starting to think this. especally given that i loved the hell out of it when it first released and didn't even give it consideration when voting.
it'll be fun to come back to this in about 2 months.
It could just be because I've given it so many more plays, but Tempest is still probably my favorite. Also picked Poltergeist and Gauze. I'm sure it'll change though. I love all of the songs; also I totally agree that Swerve City should've been longer. The longer-song format is definitely one of my favorite parts about the album.
Leathers, Tempest and Poltergeist.
Romantic Dreams, Graphic Nature and Rosemary.
but could've easily been Tempest or Goon Squad as well. had to narrow it down to 3 though.
Romantic Dreams, Gauze, Entombed

What's up with all the no-love for Swerve City?
And Leathers??
Leathers is definitely one of the best songs on here. It is a beast and it has one of the best choruses on here. Much better chorus than Diamond Eyes (the song). I was thinking of including it in the three best songs but it slightly missed the mark. But I'm thinking it may have been a better choice.
the difference... to me Leathers still has a mediocre chorus. cant really compare it to DE; which is a dreamy song despite the thick guitars.
Tempest is actually a pretty good song I feel now, but as a single..? not sure.
the only thing on Poltergeist is the "let you pretend, love you to death" part doesn't return after the bridge, but that shouldve been the first single I think.
I think DE (the song) has a similar sound with the chorus but Leathers isn't as commercial and I'm quite into it. I love the chorus in Poltergeist.
Tempest is a really odd choice as a single. It is possibly the most interesting song on the album and I love the metal edge I get in some of the riffs, especially in the last half. Reminds me of Pantera and I like it a lot.
Top 3-
Poltergeist
Graphic Nature
Gauze
Bottom 3-
Romantic Dreams
Leathers
Rosemary
As for my top 3, Goon Squad could have been in there too.. but I went with those.
The verse riff for Gauze is one of their best since Rapture in my opinion, and I love love love love it!
As for my bottom 3, Romantic Dreams and Leathers were pretty easy picks for me...
I love the intro to Romantic Dreams, but the "I wish this night would never end" part is just SO lame to me 0.o
And Leathers, chorus sounds pretty bad in my opinion..
Rosemary was harder to decide, it would have been What Happened to You, but that seems to be growing on me. Could be Tempest, since it's long and takes a while to build up, but Rosemary is even LONGER and I dunno..
None of my "bottom 3" are bad songs by any means, just the weakest on the album to me.
you're crazy. rosemary definetly is one of them best songs of all time. the EXPLOOOOOOOODE part is so fucking awesome, and the heavier part in the end drives me crazy before the beautiful outro... than comes the intro of goon squad and heeeeeeeeeere we go to heavyness again.. its brillant!!!

Word.
Goon Squad, Leathers and Tempest are some other highlights. I have to say I really didn't like Entombed at first -too cheesy it seemed-. But it's growing. It sounds like a better version of Sextape, touching and, well, less cheesy after all.
"Gauze" is pretty much a skipper for me right now. The chorus is great and all, but Steph's riff combined with Frank's samples is a mess. I don't know why, but those two combined give me a headache so far. Maybe I get used to it...
Entombed, Rosemary and Goon Squad after the first listen. Only voting since I can change it, it'll be interesting for me to see where I'm at about it after more listens as opposed to now.

its sounds like the chorus in Poltergeist, not a prechorus, but it doesnt return after the bridge.. instead the two different post-choruses combined return. kind of weird since its what makes the song i think.

Just listen to it man... it's awful. It hurts to listen to it, and it ruins what would have been a perfectly good song otherwise.

Rosemary isn't a bad song, but it's definitely bottom 3 for me.
The only songs I have issue with on this entire CD are Romantic Dreams and Leathers pretty much... Other than that, they're all decent. Nothing really spectacular in my mind (except Gauze, WOW!), but all still pretty good.

lol your opinion is an exact reversal of mine. I selected both Rosemary and Romantic Dreams on the favorites poll, and I think the entire album is spectacular except for Gauze: at first I thought it was a bit derivative and kinda' meh, but it's really been growing on me.
WHTY
Rosemary
Graphic Nature
Loving KNY.

Exactly my 3 minus Entombed as a 4th.
flashback (refused to call it whty)
gauze
entombed
I had issues with Graphic Nature at first, but now I'm getting a Prince-like vibe, which was to me one of the best on DE and a typical Deftones song -the voice, the riffs- so I'm really starting to like it.
Romantic Dreams is definitely not working for me. Shame it comes straight after Swerve City.
I voted Romantic Dreams, Entombed, and What Happened To You?. Leathers and Tempest are also great.
im not shure to hate or to love the fact that the 2 most popular songs on the album, were the first one's they showed.
poltergeist didnt had to grow on me, cause it was instantaneous
though rosemary had so growing to do, it i loved the process.
Goon Squad, Romantic Dreams and What Happened To You
Romantic Dreams, Gauze, and Rosemary
Although i was very tempted to click on Poltergeist and Goon Squad. Picking only 3 is tough...
i'm careful to not overplay this record, just about 1 time a day now. gauze is a song i have to get back to and work myself into, i have some problems with the chorus. franks effects are good, a little portishead feel to them, and the outro is pure ear candy
I have overplayed it already but Goon Squad i like cuz of the intro feels like a close encounter.
I voted for Rosemary.
Who else did? Say I
Leathers, Entombed, Tempest.

I love all of the songs; also I totally agree that Swerve City should've been longer. The longer-song format is definitely one of my favorite parts about the album.
kinda dissapointed with the running time of some songs, since the band told most (if not all) songs were 5 minutes or longer, so, 2:45 for Serwe City? It's a good song and it really doesn't feel to be a short song though.. i like it but I picked up Poltergeist (fucking love that guitar (live/studio)), Rosemary, beatiful tones and several timings along the end and one of the best Deftones songs, and the 3rd one is Goon Squad. The transition between Rosemary and this one is sublime.

Swerve City!
Entombed!!
Gauze!!!

Gauze, Goon Squad and Graphic Nature. Poltergeist would be fourth.

Entombed is my favorite right now. Either that or the intro to Goon Squad.
Rosemary and goon squad are the best for me, other songs kinda lacks something for me.
