How many albums, after KNY, do you think Deftones will release? The reason I ask is because I feel like it may be winding down for them and I want to enjoy every bit of pre-album release anxiety that comes from waiting on one of the albums. I'm guess 2 more albums after this. One of those 2 will be Eros. Thoughts?
I agree. I think they'll release two more albums + Eros. I think they've hit a new stride since they've added Sergio, and as long as they continue to put out great music (as they always have), I don't care if they put out 5 more albums, as long as it's still Deftones and is great music. I don't want them (and I don't think they're the type of dudes) to put out music just for the sake of putting out music. They're obviously not doing it for the money and fame, but for the love of what they do.
I don't know about deftones they could do more than 2, possibly another Bsides and rarities cd or they have enough material to release a greatest hits cd plus eros which i think may be released if they want to disband but have a record left on their contract plus they will probably eventually do a live dvd. I know Chino will keep going for ever whether it be Crosses ,palms or team sleep he said hell always do something to do with music even if its working in a record store.
Speaking of which, I'm pretty excited for PALMS. Always been a big fan of ISIS, and I think Chino's vocals will sound great with their sound.
I fucking wish I had another Team Sleep album to listen to. . .

Yeah im excited as love isis's instrumentals but apart from a few songs don't like the vocals Chino with them is going to be sick
I say two. Thats about 7 years from now. that seems about right 30 years as a band. Being able to do it that long would be pretty amazing in its self. But i see Chino and Abe doing stuff in the future. I think they probably have the best relationship in the band. I think when deftones stop making records people will really miss them.

Yeah, I actually see all of those guys continuing with music forever. Steph will probably always do the heavy stuff no matter what band he's with. Chino will probably do more of the Team Sleep type stuff. No tellling what Abe will do. He's so talented he could do whatever genre he wanted. And Sergio can do just about anything as well since he's a bass player. Just my guesses. I'd love for them to do several more albums as well but I'm not sure I want to see a 60 year old Chino running around in tube socks and Dickeys. :P

30 years is about normal but for some reason i think they could go longer they haven't followed the usual path usually bands go downhill release some shit albums change their style in a sad attempt to stay relevant and change members over personal issues it just seems the only reason they would break up is if it was something out of their control or they felt they'd done as much as they could together i think they've been through enough to overcome any personal issues i think the fact they are still down to earth will help lots usually it's clashing egos they break bands up
They seem really happy and into making music right now. I'd say they'll put out at least one more album then after all the years of touring and busting their asses they'll go on hiatus. That's our best chance to ever see Eros, then they'll come back and drop one more album before Stephen retires to play golf every day.
As long as their happy i don't see any reason for them to break up they still have plenty of creative ideas and are still really enjoying working together still , they say it still feels like jamming like with mates so thats a good sign
I say two with one being Eros. With the kind of music they make and with how old they are getting, I say two. They aren't old by any means. Look at Metallica, Rolling Stones, Soundgarden etc. But I think that if they make too many more, they will start sounding like elevator music. Their "heaviness" has diminished over the years although they still have some bite.

In terms of them not being able to perform any more i think the only factor would be Chinos voice the rest of the heaviness is just the right equipment, i would be happy with a softer deftones record aslong its done right would be a good chance for them to do that experimental Hip Hop / electronic album

Yeah, I think the biggest appeal to me with Deftones is the fact that they have been a band for so long and its mind boggeling how they continue to evolve and put out great albums, not just great songs, but great albums. Even if one or two of their albums aren't as good as ATF or White Pony - even still their weakest albums outweigh what a lot of bands are doing these days. Not many bands can stay together for as long as they have, and at their age, still crank out stellar albums. They set the standard, and that has never changed. They'll always be doing music - I can see Chino doing his thing as well as probably going into producing more full time potentially. And as I said before, hell, I don't care how many more albums they continue to put out - as long as their hearts are in it and they do what they do. They've never sold out or tried to "conform" to what the radio or general public wants. Their sound and style, they have a song that almost anyone can relate to - white, black, asian, male, female whatever. Hell, my mom even likes some of their songs.
i think they will release at least.. one more (id hope for more).. after that eventually they will release eros at some point...
Yeah if you wanted you could only listen to deftones because they have songs for every mood and occasion still boggles me how wide a range they have my Dad heard i think it was When girls telephone boys and said how heavy it was and then Riveire came on and he was like "this is much sweeter what a beautiful voice much better .than the heavy metal stuff" (parents think every thing with distorted guitars is heavy metal lol) and he wouldn't believe me when i said it was the same band

And I have a feeling that when they do release Eros, something tells me that they aren't going to tour for that album because of Chi (hope he makes a full recovery one day, poor guy :-\). But still awesome to know they have an incredible album tucked away for safe keeping, just waiting to see the light of day.

Haha yea, same thing happened to me the other day. I was visiting my mom and she was in the car with me and I was playing Diamond Eyes album and Beauty School came on, and she was like "Is this Deftones? This song is beautiful" Thought it was pretty cool that my mom recognized them, having not heard them in a while.

Me too. But I don't think Chino's heart is in Team Sleep anymore. I met Rob Crow (Pinback/Goblin Cock etc) a few years back; and as you probaly know he sang on half of the Team Sleep album tracks. He said that Chino would just not show up some days to record some of his vocals, so he ended up just finishing his vocals for him. So that's why Rob Crow sings on a lot of that album..

To be honest i prefer crosses its more polished and dark,i hated how chino didn't sing on alot of the songs most of the songs i didn't like but then there are some i absolutely love like Death by Plane and Natalie Portman, but i think Crosses is the future for his electronic stuff some of those songs are just amazing like trophy so atmospheric reminds me of being at a beach in a storm because the song itself could be really beautiful but its sort of twisted and dark just like a beach it can be really beautiful aswell but during a storm very depressing and dark

Hit the nail right on the head with trophy. I've always envisioned a beach when listening to that song. Or some sort of paradise.

Oh yeah, totally agree with you on that. Plus Crosses is Chino and a long time friend - so I can see that working out in the long run. I absolutely love "The Holy Ghost" by them, such an awesome song.. Like the dark wave vibe Crosses have goin on.
Really good lyrics in crosses aswell some amazing lines like that opening line from option "I dream a day that god will surface To retrieve his nails and open your heart"
I hope Deftones will be around for a long time, though I have bad feeling that if they do stay around for a long time, their awesome sound will start to decrease. They might make an album worse than SNW, but I don't know.
Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I'm hoping we'll have new Deftones music after at least 2018 (their 30th anniversary), even if its just one album after that.
Furthermore, I would like more Team Sleep albums and some full-length Crosses albums too.

Completely agree. Crosses is great and everything but Team Sleep was fucking epic (sans the actual album release).
It's impossible to say for sure, but I would guess one more album - with Eros following after - after some length of time. Then, I predict they put the band on an indefinite hiatus.
I hope I am wrong and they stay fresh and relevant until at least ten full lengths, but we've already been spoiled by the second wind this band is on.

Exactly what I was about to say. That seems to be the consensus here: one more new release after KNY and then Eros. Going for a tenth release would be pretty sweet, though.
Edit: Eleventh, if you're counting (Like) Linus.
i hope they always release new albums as long as I'm alive.....there music keeps me going 8)
2 more records then EROS. They are my all time favorite band and I want them to retire while they're on top of the world, they deserve it. I don't want them making fools of themselves when they're 80 and shit like Aerosmith.
Wow it really does not seem like 30 years. I've always been amazed at how young the guys sound and act being almost 40. It'd be a bit strange seeing them at 50 making Deftones records. . .
I'm going to be a bit different and say KNY will be their last album for a few years, a hiatus if you will. Can see Chino working more so on Crosses and Palms. Would love an Essential Deftones album which is kind of a Best Of but more a fan dedicated album with not just singles. Think an Eros track or two should turn up on it for a taste and then release Eros down the track sometime.

I hope you're right. After a world tour of KNY they might feel differently though. One more album would be great and as long as they are still challenging themselves.
I'd say that they will make at least 2 more new albums, and one will be a special realease of Eros. These guys love what they do, and they are on fire right now. If they keep up their work ethic, they can do at least two more albums.
Sorry but i want a career like Rolling Stones !!!!!
Pretty sure it will only be one more after KNY, and then eros after that.
I hope im wrong, because i honestly dont think they could ever lose their ability to create great music.

Yeah, the demo/unmastered team sleep album is much better. I agree, once all these other people started getting involved it became more of a job than for fun. Yeah i think Chino lost interest then as well and just did it to full out his obligation,It's annoying hearing all those demo's and stuff without vocals or without Chino like "Let's Go" that could of been so cool if Chino did the vocals rather than that shit female singer.
I dont think we as fans can ever know how many more records will be released, and i don't think the band know either....They will keep releasing music for as long as it suits them and makes them happy! :) Today they could think one more and tomorrow another 5.....
One thing i can say is that at some point when they start going grey it will be more mellow, but i have no problem with that!

And this is why I think people will be disappointed with it. It can't live up to the hype. Though Melanie is better than any song that has come out since. To me anyway.

As a big SNW fan, I'm hoping it has some similarities since it was the album written after SNW. That said, I guess the rest of their albums aren't really similar to their previous album so probably just wishful thinking on my part.
My impression of Eros was kind of an ST/SNW mix... Which are my fav 2 albums! But yeah, too much hype and high expectations may lead to disappointment.
I far as i can tell from interviews its more toward Self titled they said its still the darkest stuff they've ever done
People putting too much hype on Eros right now, and it kinda bothers me how much people want it over what they're getting now. Gotta appreciate the excellent music they're making at the moment and let Eros gradually happen in time.
I really think they have a maximum 3 albums left in them, maybe one could be an experimental album.
