Title: Deftones-ish sounding composition
Post by: Under Eternal Skies on Aug 28, 2011, 07:22 PM
I've been trying to write a song that has a strong Deftones vibe/influence. Its tough to achieve but let me know what you guys think of this. I tried to get that punchy guitar tone and use similar chords that Stephen Carpenter would use. Feedback would be greatly appreciated. :)Battle of Los Angeles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oTM5u_91GU#ws)

its nice but too much solos

in deftones music there's no solos , the few you can hear are just frank's digital riffs and sometimes chino's guitars but its not solos its chords

its hard to get the sound of stephen .....i try but i can't

sounds like deftones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um2eZ0cc3Zk#)

what do you think about that ? ok its really bad quality!

Yeah I only added the solos to give it a little more of my stylin but yeah your right. Also, your vid isn't great quality but the riffs your playing sound sick man. I really liked that. Record it!

i really like your main riff , could you record it without the solo?

Nice riff man, probably more straight up nu-metal than modern day deftones, think it would need to be a bit darker and less 'off the shelf' to qualify as a stef-like riff. the solo is cool too but i'd strip the solo back and give it less air time as it were but yeah good, promising stuff.

I kind of loved the solos, even though they  were not deftones, they added something personal to it, and Kind of fitted well and had some taste while not overdoing some speedy stuff.

Great to hear we've got some real talent on this forum.
Well done to both of you guys - really really good stuff!!!
Under Eternal Skies - I agree about what some of the guys are saying about the solo's.
I'm just not a fan of solo's and also it doesn't sound like something Stef would do. I'd love to hear what it sounds like if you could change the solo parts.
Regardless it sounds really professional and you've got a really cool riff there - well done.
Chino17 - your riff is really sic!!
I've heard things recorded in far worse quality so that didn't really detract from it for me.
Are you in a band? - I'd love to hear what could be done to this with some drums, bass and some vocals.

Yeah it won't be for about two weeks as I need to pick my kit up from home, recently moved out so no rush on the recording but a wav would be great yeah, once I've drummed over it I'll send over. I'll do my best abe impersonation haha ;)

Wow, kickass drums! i'm thinking of lower budget Roland or Yamaha with the mesh heads as well.

Thanks yeah they are beauts, i did start off on a roland td6 originally though, which i bought off ebay for about £600.00 (not sure if your from the UK) but i think you can pick up a TD6 with some mesh heads at a reasonable (Rolands version of reasonable) price.

I can easily take the solos out and see how it sounds. I have another song I am working on too. I used the drum beat from elite and wrote my own riffs over it. Still mixing it right now but I can post the raw demo if you want to hear the riffs.
