I'm 22 and was just wondering how old some of you hardcore Deftones fans are.
I just really got into the band last year, and have a high replay value for most of their albums (like I do for most of my fav bands). I don't see myself getting "tired" or "sick" of Deftones for some time, if at all ever, dependent of course on how often I listen to them over the years
I'm 17. I got into them last year too. I've had minerva on my ipod for prob 2 or 3 years and I would always skip it -____- and then I watched the movie 'manic' and I heard headup and I searched who it was and now they're my favorite band. The song that really got me to get there whole discography was beware.
turn 26... soon... so I guess I'm in the 26-30 class lol
28 :(
dunno if i'm a "hardcore fan" - i mostly just lurk here because the deftones following seems to have abnormally good taste on average - but I guess 'tones is the only band I listened to in high school that I still listen to nowadays, so that probably counts for something? :B
I'm also 22. My roomate in 08' was a huge Deftones fan and i've been hooked ever since.

I'm the same way except it was with My Own Summer; I loved that song thanks to The Matrix but the fact that it took me so long to actually get into the band as a whole is kind of disappointing. when I think about it a second time, I realize it isn't, because it's great timing in my life.
I agree in the sense that Beware is such a great song, sort of underrated I think, though again it took me a few months to give their slower songs a chance. and ultimately I'm glad I did.
Im 18 Got into them last year though i had always loved change ever since hearing it on the Movie Queen of the Damned ,i saw them for the first time in LA at the Hollywood Palladium , it was awesome!
I'm turning 24 now. In love with them after self-titled release.
22.
23, first Deftones's track i heard was My own summer in the Matrix OST., then i bought white pony back in 2000, been my favorite band ever since =)
28 :o
Im 29 now, I got into them in 97 with the release of ATF, back then Kerrang used to be a reliable source for music reviews, they gave the album 5/5 and that was enough for me to make the purchase, Id never heard any of their material before but it completely changed my musical direction once I listened to it.
23. ye

I'm 30 and began to listen to them when i was 19 or 20 years old, so many years listening DEFTONES and never get tired of them!!!
i'm 23. been a fan since i was about 11 or 12 when i stole ATF from my older brother. got hardcore into them when white pony came out about a year or 2 later.

Could be, but I didn't have any problem. I've seen many 14 year old people in concerts and festivals here in Belgium.
i don't know about other places but in canada there's usually a general admittance area and then a reserved drinking area for the 19+ crowd. the only shows i couldn't go to when i was a kid were shows at bars. at deftones in montreal though the venue had bars everywhere and it certainly seemed like a 18+ venue (since 18 is legal age in quebec) but i saw kids as young as 16 at that show. i guess it depends on how strict the venue is.
Im 35. Heard Deftones a couple of weeks after Adreneline came out and they have been my fave ever since. I remember this chick i worked at a pizza joint with bought it and didnt like and let me have it.....i bet it didnt come out of my cd player for months. 15 shows later still love this band.

I thought 12 years old seemed a bit too young to be true.

30. Got the buzz when I heard Adrenaline back in 96 and still my favourite band to this day!
it was a blast. got real hammered too
32, been listening to Deftones since late 95/early 96. First time I heard them was when I seen the music video for 7 Words and the first time I seen them was at the 96 Warped Tour.
After seeing the music video I found out a few weeks later a friend had Adrenaline on CD so I borrowed it and bought it the very next day.
23, fan since a cousin gave me the atf cd, i think it was in 98'
Old 30 year old here. :-[
Started listening to deftones in 1996. Attended my first deftones concert in 98. Fav band, still. I have probably seen them live 15-20 times. I did take a hitatus from concerts from 2004-2009 to pop out a couple kids. ;) Now, I am back to a place where I just can't get enough of them.
Been a fan since I was 13. Got really fucked up when I saw them live. Manchester academy is a pretty cool place :P

Also, lots of n00bs here, kinda strange. I guess this band didn't peak fanbase wise. Still, n00bs.

It's not exactly a bad thing that they have a broad fanbase, but yeah, a lot of the newer fans should do their homework a little, I wonder how many have been through that extensive digging around for material they haven't heard stage.
I'm 21 now. First listening was 8 years ago, when I'm 13. I'm a hardcore fan. lol

It used to be fun when the internet wasn't around. Stupid internerd, it's ruined all sense of wonder.
i like that they pull in new fans. keeps them relevant. and those kids (if they get truly into the band) will get into that phase of needing to see and hear everything eventually. actually that phase never really seems to end.

If you mean the Amber who was active years a few years ago.... then yeah. I'm not sure if there was another Amber somewhere out there. It's been a while. I did a lot of trading/dowloading when I was in college.... before stuff became so widely available like it is now.
I'm now 20, started listening to them when I was like 14. It actually started because I was in that 13-14 listen to korn and be depressed stage and I heard that song Wicked from life is peachy, and I was just really interested to learn who chino was after I heard him rapping on it. I said this is some other thread here where I was the OP, that I'm kind of a Deftones "noob" but don't feel bad about it. my belated 'discovery' of exploration of them has come at a great time in my life, inspired a lot of things I've done, and opened up my view towards music.

I'm 20 now, But I remember hearing "Change" a few times on the radio (and in flash videos online) when WP came out and I liked it but I never looked up who it was by...I suppose I started becoming an "official fan" after B-Sides and Rarities came out (2005 or so) cause I remember saving up (allowance) money to buy SNW when it first came out and when I first saw them live in in 2006 for the Family Values Tour w/Korn they started playing HITE before it was even barely a single and I was the only one in the crowd that knew all the words already lol. Guess I still would consider myself "obsessed" after them seeing them live 6 times so far ever so traveling around the US to see them.

28. Heard them first when I was 16.
Can someone lock this thread cos I'm feeling really old :(
Heard "my own summer" when I was 13 and had no idea what Chino was singing about, I was really following the riffs at first
52.. just saw them at the Tabernacle in Atl on May 28th.. amazing show !!
I'm not sure how old I am. My parents never told me. I look like I could be somewhere between 20 and 27. I spend 2-3 hours everyday looking in the mirror wondering who I really am, and where I'm from. My back is covered with scars, and my chest has a tattoo that kind of looks like a map. And I don't know where they came from.
I am 35 and have been listening to the tones since a week after adrenaline came out. I have seen them thirty times. Still mad at myself that during a record signing in Milwaukee for Around the Fur I had ten minutes to talk with Chino and I completely froze. I want another try! Took my buddy James to see them in Madison. He is 54 and always makes me feel young. I am starting to think they should either tour less or hang it up after the next record. Chino seems pretty wiped on this leg of the tour. Happy their Weinhouse phase is over. I remember the years where you were going to get a coherent show or a drunk fest.
and a friend of mine told me deftones was music just for your people, ha. Love the fact that each one of us didn't thought deftones as a phase, rather we chose it like a life companion.
I can never see ourselves quitting deftones, that's something to be proud of.

Such a funny ass show, glad there's a tape of it. Crowd had to sit their and take it.
And at min 7:30, Chino was right, my dad bought us adrenaline there and he still rocks it.

Yep, 29. I started with White Pony (thanks to Circus Magazine) during the summer of freshman year of high school - perfect timing for a musical revolution in my life. Then I went backwards, picked up ATF and Adrenaline. By time ST came out, I had downloaded every bootleg, b-side, and demo that I could get my hands on. Something that blows my mind is that the band has yet to release an official live DVD, but I guess the internet has made those kinds of releases less important as time has gone on. There's certainly enough professionally-filmed content in terms of both live performance and candid interviews - I'm not sure what more an "official" DVD could say or do. I'm rambling, don't mind me youngsters...now get off my lawn!!! :D
26, fan since White Pony Era.
I knew about the band just a bit before, but when you're on music like Limp Bizkit and Korn, you need a bit time to fell in love with Deftones.
23.
Remembered seeing the Change and BTS vids on mtv and thought they were pretty memorable but didn't look further into em till borrowing White pony and ATF from my bro in law, in 2006.
Then I bought SNW later that year and that solidified it for me.
Digital Bath, Knife Party, RX Queen, BQAD, and Xerces were the absolute clinchers.
20. Been a fan since 2011. (yep I'm late)
24. Been posting on the forum since 2003. Had 2 different user names. knifepart954 or something
28 I was 12 when i first heard My Own Summer on the Matrix VHS tape when they used to play parts of the soundtrack in the previews. SL been here almost 10 years a fucking decade ago. Its just a shell of what it once was though.
20 Years old, fan since 2012. I've known Deftones for about eight years, but I never got the urge to look them up. When I did, I fell for Diamond Eyes instantly. <3 It was my second song; My Own Summer is cool, but not my favorite. Then I got to tell my mum they were coming to Europe and I got to go to Paris, where I became a true fan. :-*
20, fan since 2010. I didn't know about them before, but I was only just getting properly into music around that time and happened upon Diamond Eyes. It was probably the barn owl that attracted me to it actually.

Just like you, but one year older.

I'm 20, the first time I heard them was when I was about 8/9 years old when they played "Change" in the Dragonball Z movie Coolers Revenge lol.
I didn't ever bother looking them up until about this time last year when I rediscovered them, then I only started really listening to Change, Minerva, Lotion & Passenger.
Then I found out they were having a concert in Lubbock TX in May 2014, so I started skimming through all of their albums and ended up going to the concert.
When I got back that's when I started really listening to everything and looking up the lyrics to every song, looking on this website for rares, listening to Chino's side project bands and looking up any features anyone from the band has been on, etc.
I wish I had discovered them earlier but at least I'm really into them now haha.
22 years old, fan since back to school came out, like 2001 or so, i had 8 or 9 years when deftones came to my country for the first time, and i was so young to go to their show, till the present day im sad of that, i hope to be able of dying like a deftones fan.
33 years young. Saw deftones first in 1996 when my cousin made me go to the Kiss reunion tour in Chicago and got me blazed for the first time as well. Thought Chino was fucking crazy but blew me away...Kiss did not. Saw them again later that year at the Rave in Milwaukee. It was tough in 96 because most kids in Wisconsin thought they were gonna be part of fucking Death Row Records if they played Snoop, Dre and 2Pac enough times. Once Around the Fur came out my friends started to understand what I was trying to tell them.
30 years old. Been a fan since I seen them perform at the 2000 HFStival in Washington, DC by accident. Whats crazy is the show has become one of the most popular Deftones bootlegs.
Since then, I have seen them play some great shows, in particular the 930 club in 2003 when they debuted Self Titled material live for the 1st time.

I know, I know. I used the meme wrong. Nevermind, I was drunk anyqay. I don't doubt his or her age. I was rather pointing out how everyone else usually gave some kind of background on how they became a fan and which song or album convinced them , while he/she simply gave us his/her age. Boring.
Sometimes you got to look out for the funny bits. Like when people write stuff like"I'm 20 years old and a fan since 2003" . I find that very funny.
I read the board once in a while, but have never felt compelled to register until I saw this thread. Holy christ does this make me feel old. Im glad the music has translated to a new generation of fans.
Im 38.. Adrenaline came out my senior year of high school. I bought it on tape so i could play it in my car. The first time I saw them was in '96 in a club that doesnt even exist anymore, and cant wait to see them again this summer. Wont be the first time I had to suffer through an Incubus set to see them play.
Anyway.. all you youngsters have fun this summer and catch as many shows as possible. It never gets old.
I'm 34.
Been a fan since WP era.
I was heavily into rap before, until I stumbled across Chino's singing style during the chorus of Back to School, on TV.
It amazed me at first; I hadn't heard anyone sing in that way before. After that, I searched through their catalogue of songs, and was hooked.

Sometimes you got to look out for the funny bits. Like when people write stuff like"I'm 20 years old and a fan since 2003" . I find that very funny.
I'm only 19 and first heard them about then. I was a kid and heard Minerva and started listening to them after that.
I'm 28 and the first song I heard was My Own Summer circa 99-00 in the Matrix OST. Got really hoocked by the music though I didn't understand the lyrics at all, but went through their catalogue by 2000-2001 when WP singles were aired on TV (mostly BTS), then, I started to get songs, bootlegs, or rarities little by little and when S/T was about to be released I was now waiting as a fan to the new material, Minerva was the song that made worth the wait, that's why S/T is my fave album, the first one I expected now as a fan.
25 joined the board right before the release of self titled. Been a fan since white pony in 5th grade hah
so i, like one of the previous posters, saw this thread and decided to make an account as well...
im 33, been a fan since adrenaline..god those first two albums take me back to a special time and place...
i remember seeing them for the first time after adrenaline but pre-around the fur if i remember correctly...
chino had already cut his dreads and i believe limp bizkit opened for them (boo) but it was a HELL of a show...
oh and also, it was at the alrosa villa (sadly the same venue where dimebag darrell & others were murdered years later) annnd there was an argument after the show, someone(s) in the deftones were trying to buy yayo from a dealer i knew and the tour manager was arguing with him because supposedly cocaine + deftones made the tour managers life a living hell, lolol...figured some of you might find that funny/ interesting :)
Such a long time posted since my original post here that I had to vote again. I think I was 21 or so, and now I'm 27.

first heard them 10 years ago, really dove into all of their music 3 years ago. they are probably my favorite band of my high school days
I'm 37. I've been a Deftones fan since Around The Fur. I will probably always be a fan but the last album that I thought was really good was Saturday Night Wrist. The albums after that are all ok but don't hold a special place in my heart. I'm hoping the the next album will create a new spark.

For someone with Jon Davis as his avatar, you speak a lot of truth..
I'm 16.
Pales in comparison to some of you, but I've been a fan since Diamond Eyes. Yes, I listen to their whole discog now and own every album.
And I can play Stephen's guitar parts on every album, even the 7 and 8 string shit on DE and KNY.
I'm 31, been a fan since ATF, and still love the band to this day
32 now
you sound like you're twelve
