The riff in the chorus when chinos screaming of needles and pins is amazzzzzing
I love that riff!! :D
its stef's riff, but its not a guitar its a bass he plays that on.
A girlfriend of mine once commented that it sounded like he was breaking the guitar during that part. lol.
Haha that's funny. I used to use a similar phrase to describe Steph's riff from RatsRatsRats, the one that "connects" the verse to the chorus, it's also the riff the song ends on.
I always thought it sounded like music breaking.
I always liked the verse in Hexagram when Chino's ranting Worship/Play.
:o finger of death-the main riff is killing me
my own summer verse riff

^ ^ ^ ^ ^
Stef is way too modest!!!!!!!!!
digital bath's verse man, so hauting
second would be hexagram's beginning, really fits there, gets you in the mood for the monster thats going to be unleashed.
Knife Prty
and obsly, Buffalo / Finger of death
always been a big fan of the riffage in Lovers.
everything feiticeira. wish stef would explore stuff like that more. odd time signatures, crazy wailing sound. hate the chugga djent stuff stef seems fond of lately. he's no fredrik thordendal, for fucks sake.
Pink Maggit is by far my favorite.
here he is -the riff bomb-
i love how fast he goes over the frets and how fast he plays the punches

ughh root?? how could now one have mentioned that.
Well I would say the main Needles and Pins riff but like mention before that is on bass, but I'd have to say a tie between the verse on be quiet and drive and the Verse on When girls telephone boys. Those two just hit home for me.

BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was thinking these two as I was reading here. K P sounds like Stephen really went deeper than ever experimenting with that sound. I can't think of anything off the top of my head similar to it right now..... and Korea reminds me of nuclear warfare. It's the title, the scare in the world today, and it's like I could imagine that opening riff when I hear the city's wailing siren and a huge mushroom cloud in the horizon. Fucked up, I know but think about it though, ::) I sorta always wondered if they renamed that song "Korea" because maybe they got the same vibe from it? They are from here in the U.S. obviously and Kim Jong il from North "Korea" has been thought of as a nuclear threat way before 2000 with us here in the U.S. and many other nations. I know they pay a lot of attention to what goes on in the world, hell they've been traveling the shit out of it! You know they didn't just formulate that song from the get... it was "White Pony" I believe at first. ;D Just a thought, let's not forget..
Deftones eros in studio 2008 clip 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Rn_OT-Jh4Y#)
definitely "LOTION"
Always loved the end of street carp when its fading out, repetitive riff goes well with Abe smashing the shit out of the cymbals :)

This is insane too. The whole damn thing is just crazy! By the way, can anyone decipher any of these lyrics from the live version of this demo??? Just curious.... Thank you

I know, but then I'm surprised we got to hear a track that way then.

Its actually a good riff, but it sounds so overproduced, and that takes out the heaviness of it. Thats what I dont like about it.

Love this riff too.. but I don't think anything on DE could ever be considered my favorite Deftones anything :(
Great album, and I know why they did it the way they did (mostly Chi), but just not my cup of tea.
the second part of Fireal
and also hexagram such a beautiful and powerful riff at the same time

Even though its a good song, I think its one of their blandest riffs.
Finger of Death, When Girls Telephone Boys, Fireal, Hexagram, Needles and Pins (intro), Lotion (intro/verse), Untitled #6, Untitled #9, Untitled #2, Untitled #5, (ending of) Beware, Lovers, Battle-Axe, all of the known Eros riffs, Korea, Feiticeira, Digital Bath, Riviere, Lifter, Cherry Waves, Pink Maggit, Teething, Lhabia, Prince, Rats!Rats!Rats!, Mascara (intro/verse)
Root, My Own Summer, Knife Prty, Hexagram, Kimdracula, Rocket Skates, Finger of Death.
In addition to my previous post... Root as well.
Too many, but yes! FOD is so badass in and out. Both versions I've heard. They seem different from each other to me anyway. If there is a track I want to hear finished, lyrics or not, it's that one. Gives me the goosebumps like fucking measles. It's sooooo Deftones and they didn't realize it would have been the best track on the record. Prob single handedly would have changed a lot of minds about the whole album. I hear they couldn't complete it because Chino couldn't write to it or something??? Should work on it till he can (tho he won't) bc it's so good not being a surprise now wouldn't matter in my book. Wish I wrote it. Just may steal it now that i think of it and write my lyrics to it just to fuck around with it in the basement with my shitty garage band, lol :P
FOD is cool, but not nearly better than almost anything off SNW >.<
definitely Feiticeira (intro) - A very unique riff that Stef created, love it.
Honorable mentions:
Be Quiet and Drive (verse) - so simple but drives the whole song.
Street Carp (chorus) - another simple one but hits hard.
Change (bridge) - I like the subtle change in chordage here.
Hexagram (intro) - probably my second favorite riff. Just awesome.
When Girls Telephone Boys (whole song) - I like the guitar work in this song.
Needles and Pins (chorus and bridge) - heavy.
Bloody Cape (verse) - i like this.
Kimdracula (verse) - nothing special, but my favorite on SNW.
Prince (chorus) - another simple but awesome riff.
Combat- Simple yet buzzsaw reminiscing and headbanging
Kimdracula- love the flow
Rapture-haunting in some ways
hexagram hands down. that song has the best guitar sound i've ever heard.
My own summer (which I consider my favourite riff of the 90's)
Feiticeira (which I consider my favourite riff of the 00's)
Kim dracula
Street carp.

This makes me lol
Rapture is pretty sweet just for that pinch harmonic alone.
I like the dissonance of the verse of Bloody cape, it's pretty in a really rough way, then boom, djent!
I know it's simple as fuck and everyone can play it but BQAD is awesome too, just because of how bright it sounds.

This is a great way to look at it all! I'm digging this. And btw, Rapture and Bloody Cape r also my fav tracks from thealbums they're on. Like I said, woulda loved to hear FOD completed and turned into a SNW track after all. Nice job man 8)
Yeah as someone said, hexagram, more the verse than the chorus though.
Also feiticeira because its choppy and modern sounding (still). Also swords.
That really sharp flanger effect in "Lotion" always tripped me out. Pretty sick.
The best Stef guitar riff is the one I wrote for him which was supposed to be on the Eros track tentatively called "Omniscient".
Love BattleAxe, pretty simple too compared to some others that I love....(The beginning)
Best Stef Guitar riff ? Beginning of 15 - Untitled on the SNW demo CD :P
....JK. I think im gonna have to go with Bloody Cape. Its heavy yet melodic and the same time, which I love.
I'd have to say Deathblow. It's fantastic!
How has no one mentioned "Mascara"?
