Title: Anyone notice the greek references?
Post by: 7t9cobra on Jan 18, 2011, 05:11 AM
I was looking up the meaning of the word EROS and found out it is a greek sex god. The word minerva is a roman goddes who is the inventor of music. Her symbol is an owl, which as we all know, is on the cover of diamond eyes. Just thought this was cool. Im sure there are lots more references, this is just what i noticed. Sorry if this has already been brought up. I didn't see it anywhere so i figured I would share.

song or album sticky thread might need to be created.

I'm not bagging on anyone starting a new thread if there's not one relevant, but there seems to be a lot of song/album meanings talk lately and maybe this deserves a permanent thread.

my 2 cents is that some of these recurring themes of religious/cultural/historical  icons, symbols, gods and such are somewhat inconsistent if we're to apply any theories to a larger context of overall album meaning (obviously EROS cannot be discussed at length, but I highly doubt it to be some sort of concept album). I'm not sure there's as much of a "bigger" picture as others seem to think. However, on a song to song basis, we can clearly see that "minerva" is not merely a cool name.

I heard they did the soundtrack for Hercules in New York too. Weird.
