I have been thinking lately that it would be amazing to go to Sacramento and take in a bit of Deftones heritage and just generally see what the scene is like where Deftones established themselves.
This will be a bit of an undertaking given that I live in England, I was wondering whether anyone else had made the pilgrimage to Sacto to check out the local scene and bars around the place. For some reason Deftones are the only band going that would ever make me come close to doing this sort of shit, but I am so intrigued to learn a bit about the local scene that gave birth to the deftones.
Seriously? Sacramento? I live in Southern Cali, have been to Sacto and its boresville, one stripclub, one state college, a few government buildings and lots of cows.

Relax dude, I think they were just trying to be nice.
A friend of mine was studying in Davis for a semester, and he also said that Sacramento is hardly worth a visit. But I don't know, do whatever you feel like man. California is without a doubt on my "places I have to go to" list, but I was thinking more of San Francisco and Los Angeles.

i'd like to see the place. fuck. who cares.
Gotta love that Trainspotting quote.
The message fits to your situation nicely....you either do it, or you don't. It's as simple as that.
If you don't do it, you can imagine all your life how awesome Sacramento must be, because your favorite band comes from there.
Or you just go for it, and take the risk that this place might lose some of it's magic for you.
So save some money and book the flight. Nothing to lose, right?
Sac town is pretty lame... If your gonna go to northern ca go to San Fran...
Wow that was the best rant i've read in a while.
Well i've never been to Sacto but my cousin lives there.
For the record i've always been curious to check it out.
I forget where it is, but someone posted a link to a yearbook with Abe in it. Find the link and you'll know the high school they went to.
Once you find the school, you should be in the general area where most of them hung out and lived. Do some research and see if you can find out any places they played at locally. Also the bored and seven words videos where filmed in that area, i believe, as well as bloody cape.
I guess you could talk to some locals and try to find some locations, or just wander around and use your imagination.
If you go, have fun and good luck.
To be honest i'd like to see the area, i'd get a flight to cal and do the standard tourist thing plus dropping into sacto. I have no expectations, it's just something i'd like to do before i hit the dirt.
Nic went there a few years ago (she's from England) but rarely posts here so is unlikely to see the thread.

YOU seem to care a lot.
He obviously does care about it. He just asked for some info not for a bunch of people to immediately shoot him down. Maybe Sacto isn't a huge deal, but he's obviously just a passionate fan. we can't fault him for that
I would love to do that, in fact sometimes my boyfriend and i are talking about it, we love DEFTONES but after all your comments don't know if it's worth it...

The local scene that gave birth to the Deftones does not exist anymore. Save your money.
you guys need to get your heads out of your rear ends and see more damn movies
Try to find 'The Spot' when you're there!
Sacramento is to Deftones as Graceland is to Elvis? Why not.....
it would be nice if they could organize some sort of package tour by bus with stops here and there, like a stop by Steph's garage where they started out playing/rehearsing .. maybe check out a skate park where they used to hang out. first club gig venue, stop and eat at their favorite restaurant if it's still there etc. I would go on it 8)

I love sactown .if u know were to go its a party town
I wonder how many peeps on defworld live in northernkali? Who has been to the crest theatre, ace of spades, centerfolds, memorial audi, the american river for raffting gone wild?

i like the way u think my friend
I live about an hour drive from Sac. Love seeing the boys in their home town. Lots of fun. :) It's worth it to take a trip out to Cali for a deftones concert, taking in Sacramento and spending a day or two in San Fran too.
I don't think this is a bad idea at all.
Even if the city isn't that great it's still nice to be able to go to places where the band has hung out or played, it gives u a feel for their world.
Seeing as though Deftones will probably never come to South Africa, I'll probably go to the States one of these days to see them play.
It might be nice to go up to Sacramento if they're playing up there, even if I just pass through and end up really going that way to see LA or San Francisco or somewhere.
Well isn't Sacramento also the capitol of California? I say do it up dude! You only live once.
I was planning to go to California in May, fly to San Francisco, go to Alcatraz then have a mooch to Sacramento cos its apparently about an hours drive then go to LA and then down to San Diego. I picked up a couple of brochures from the travel agents for America and was surprised to see that they had several places to stay in and on the outskirts of Sacramento, one place looked like a country spa. Considering Sacramento is the capital city of California I'm surprised that people seem to have such a low opinion of it. It's like going to London and not going to Camden.
The Capitol of states here in America are not always the biggest or best cities in those respective states.
See: Albany, NY; Annapolis, MD; Harrisburg, PA; Tallahassee, FL; Sacramento, CA...
Just a few.
My point being.. "Oh it's the Capitol!" isn't a good reason to go :P Just go if you feel it's worth the money and time for you, most cities you can find at least something to do. Some are "younger" cities, where you can find bars and clubs and things. Some are "older" or more relaxed, where you can find shops and interesting architecture, or just appreciate the view of the ocean etc. It all depends on the city, your mindset, and your willingness to travel out of your comfort zone. Whichever you choose, make the best of it. Can't stand when people I know make a decision, then complain about it the whole time. Kinda rambling here so.. I say go, but don't let yourself be bored. The end.
Do what ever makes you happy, I always wanted to go to Cali and yea I would check out Sac for a few hours to say Ive been to the home of the Deftones, but then hit up some better places!
Only ever seen parts of Florida and New York.
Would be good to visit the West.
This is cool, i was left thinking it was a stupid idea after posting it originally but i guess at least some other people think its not totally ridiculous.

just dont go to southside Sactown, lol
I've lived in Sacramento all of my 27 years, born and raised. I like it and am very content but it's really not much of a place to visit. If it's something you're truly considering, feel free to get at me and I'll let you know some shit to do etc etc. I will say it's been awesome being a fan of this band since 95 or 96ish (can't remember exactly) as it has allowed me to see and do a lot of cool shit when it comes to them.
I've been curious abt Sac too but we're not going to run into any of them around there, try L.A. if that's what you're shooting for or a concert anywhere in the world by getting in town early in the day. Lot's of fans meet artists at the most random places like I ran into Korn in Auburn Hills , MI in 2000ish at a Taco Bell. Never was into them but it was a cool memory.... Seen Iggy Pop in a record store in Royal Oak last summer here in Royal Oak, MI. I missed Deftones at a skate shop here in May of 2010 by minutes according to one of the employees. We were just killing time and trying to stay outta the rain before their show that day. They hit up skate shops and record stores here usually which r very plentiful in the metro-Detroit area. :)
Post some pictures after the trip.
I will visit Sacramento next week, just because my favorite bands from there. Anyone knows some band-related places? Like McClatchy school. And I will post pictures :-) .
Prepare to be disappointed. There's a reason why Deftones have a song with the lyrics "This town don't feel mine" and "I don't care where just far away".
Yeah I've heard that it's not like a shit hole but it is just really plain and boring with nothing much unique there.

that's what makes it great it's agriculture. besides it's beauty. It's still a real place that somebody can grow up, fuck LA and all the rest of the metropolitans, that's where you go when you want to fulfill a vain dream. those places ain't nothin but a concrete jungle, it doesn't impress me. I always imagine the beauty of southern California before it was turned into concrete. pomo indian era.
furthermore here are some facts. the Chinese immigrants refer to it as "the second city" behind only beautiful frisco. Sacramento is also Spanish for sacrament. it's also the sunniest place in the world, truly a sacrament it is. lots of indigenous, Asian, latin culture expressed. Anyway the Deftones grew up in Oak Park which is the more underdeveloped area with a lot of "color." It's very nice.
haha trust me Agriculture shit wears off real quick, where I live we border on it, literally theres one more street after mine and then it's all country and farms just acres and acres of beautiful green land but they use fertiliser and stuff and it smells like shit, we're lucky we're also based 10min away from the centre of the city because apart from looking nice it's fucking boring lol.
The Cattle Club is no more so no reason the go there. I just did a round trip Nor Cal and skipped Sacto because everyone told me it's a boring place.
Yeah didn't the cattle club burn down?
