Does he ever use a double kick?!

he uses it on ST on when girls telephone boys i think.

I would be interested if anyone knows what the small wooden snare he uses, i'm guessing he cant say what it is because it isn't tama.

deftones - nosebleed(with lyrics) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKzwYyAEC5Q#)
5 secs in the song, double bass lick.

Deftones Dai The Flu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VcUhdv0sSU#)
28 sec, again double bass lick.. all over the chorus

Deftones - Feiticeira (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft5c4sAJ_gI#)
1.46

Deftones - Digital Bath (Video) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tmPBuSpmfA#)
DIGITAL BATH!!! 2.19

Bloody Cape - Deftones (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu5GvoAhnY8#)
3.15
I think some part are done with double bass throughout the song, some quick kicks in the verse. The chorus first few kicks. (you can play single, but easier with both feet).

Abe said himself, that sometimes live he falls back on playing stuff with the two kicks cuz it's less stressfull for him.

Nice one I also got a TAMA Rockstar Classic and the 22" K Crash/Ride, that was one expensive cymbal. Love the Zildjian K Series. I would definitely take this drumset, but replace the TAMA Iron Cobra doublepedal with my Pearl P-2002C.

It's strange because I remember an interview with Stef a few years ago where he was moaning about wanting to switch things up and go real heavy but Abe wasn't prepared to use a double bass pedal.

But perhaps Abe has had one for ages and what Stef means is 'use' the double bass like heavier metalcore bands and the like use them.

Anyways i'd love to hear more use of double bass in deftones, but not some ridiculous Joey Jordison style everywhere!

If Abe used a double bass pedal to play  they would loose their connection with the indie and alternative rock scene and become purely metal in my opinion, double bass is synomonous with metal. I've always liked that abe keeps the single pedal, I think DE shows how much he is leaning away from the metal scene.

yeah abe can do some licks, but nothing like Meshuggah does with the kicks or bands like that.

And yes it's a good thing that he doesn't do that... else Deftones sound would become very generic.

Pretty sure Abe didn't start using a double kick 'til kinda later on. You can achieve the same result with a single kick and I think he did that for some time.

Yes I was gonna add this. I don't think he was using a double kick for Adrenaline. In fact the drumming on Nosebleed is just him using a single pedal... Same with Feiticeira.

some drummers can idd pull of triplets with one foot.. never seen abe do it..

this however, shows abe's double kicks on nosebleed

Deftones - Nosebleed [2003-01-19][Big Day Out festival (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNAjYHQsoNg&feature=related#)

I read an interview, 10 years ago or so.. where abe talked about using double kicks, how it made him lazy ;)
