Title: Hidden Messages On Deftones Songs
Post by: Danny Keyes on Dec 21, 2010, 10:14 PM
i was on a seminar with the topic of subliminal messages and i wondered to myself if the deftones songs had any hidden messages of them. many rock bands have hidden messages on their songs and i couldn't help but wonder if maybe some deftones songs had any type of msg when played backwards.

what do you guys think?

that Chicago record played backwards says "i comand you in the name of lucifer to spill the blood of the innocent". so maybe deftones hid something too

LITTLE NICKY!

I dont think theres any subliminal messages in any of their songs, sometimes the lyrics dont add up to what you hear though.

All I'm gonna say is that if you're a lucid dreamer than you know exactly what Chino is talking about.

I agree with Vesanic.
Chino's vocals/lyrics are subliminal already on some level. Although i think he might hide shit on purpose as well.
Also Frank's presense for the most part up until SNW is pretty much subliminal as well. In a mood sense, he subliminally alters your perception of the songs imo.
Great thing about their albums is that they're so layered, i'm hearing new shit all the time i never noticed, and i thought i heard everything ten years ago. ATF in particular, for me.

BTW guys, did you ever notice that on Change, there is an extra track of vocals throughout the ENTIRE SONG where he's just whispering the words along with the main track? I remember noticing it the year WP came out at some point, but i've never heard/seen anyone mention it. It's pretty dope. If you don't know what i'm talking about, listen to an album quality recording (like the cd instead of a shit mp3) pretty loud in some decent headphones.
Also i think there's an extra guitar track on Knife Prty where Stephs just making rhythmic fret noises along with the strumming in the cleantone intro. Though i could be wrong, it could just be a by-product of his strumming along with the chorus effect or whatever he's using on his guitar. OR it could even be Frank, but that's a bit of a stretch.
Speaking of Frank, his work on Fist is just fucking fantastic, and there's a thing that's pretty subliminal during the "heavy" parts, some kind of chromatic chimey  chords piano or something with delay  (i'm sure you guys know what part i mean). Sounds like something that would create maybe TOO much dissonance if it was at "ear level" with the other instruments. But it totally works the way it is on the record. Fucking siiiiick and really really adds to the vibe. Essential really.

thats trippy Ive never that noticed before!, has chino actually said that there's two vocal tracks on change or could it be because of some effect on his voice ? anyways, although it may not be a hidden message i always thought the telephone ringing in rickets was pretty cool. its one of those things when you first hear it you immediately go back to make sure you actually heard what you think you heard

vocals tend to be double tracked a lot just subtly to add more warmth and power to the voice. Its probablymore Terry Dates work then Chinos

i always noticed that but i'm an audiophile who looks for layering and such. sounds pretty neat still.
