Title: Post Hardcore-ish Bands
Post by: oldgentlovecraft on Oct 11, 2010, 04:06 PM
Although I listen to a ton of metal, all subgenres, I also like a mix of heavy and melodic. There are quite a few bands that I enjoy listening to that are not ridiculously heavy. For that reason, I thought I'd post bands that were post hardcore, or close, so that others can post similar bands. I've had trouble lately finding good bands that fit, in sound, to some of these bands. I'm not huge on sticking to specific genres, but I use the comparison so that people know what I mean. Also, I searched around and this genre is only grazed on this board. If anyone has suggestions please post!

Here are bands that I usually throw into mixes. I know they're not all post hardcore, but like I said, it's the music and vibe I'm looking for in suggestions.

Woe is Me  (just discovered, really digging)

Woe, Is Me- For The Likes Of You (New WITH LYRICS!) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyTFE_NdVx8#)

36 Crazyfists (I know we have fans on the board)

36 Crazyfists - Reviver (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRDCHT-YPfY#)

Alesana (newest album was phenomenal)

Alesana - The Thespian (Lyrics in Summary) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWzqc7pQCLM#)

Dead and Divine

Creature - Dead and Divine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgFdyGXmbAg#)

Vanna (huge fucking fan, just bought preorder pack for new EP)

Vanna - Passerby NEW SONG (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8qdcn-X7dU#)

Other bands I enjoy:

Dance Gavin Dance
Emarosa
Memphis May Fire
Finch
We are the Ocean
Chiodos
Alexisonfire
Drop Dead, Gorgeous
Emery
Every Time I Die
Fear Before
Haste
He is Legend
Lions Lions
Poison the Well
Seeker Destroyer
Scarlet
Senses Fail

Yeah, there are some punk, hardcore, and metalcore type bands in there, but they all have a similar feel and intensity.

This is one of those genres that's gotten so damn worn out, no offense.

The Sound of Animals Fightings last album + random Circa Survive songs. In other words Anthony Green. Besides that, Hot Cross maybe? Are they post-hardcore? They were great nevertheless.

Yeah, I think that's why people avoid it so much, and that's why I try to find the bands that stick out.  I don't mind if it's not post hardcore, but I want the feel more than anything. I'll check those out. Thanks!

I'd recommend you Traeos, a post-hardcore band from Germany. Their Ep sounded really promising, the LP was kind of a letdown for me. Tell me if you like it and I'll upload both for you:

I'll check your suggestion guys. In my opinion, Post hardcore kicks ass when it's not in its purest and combines with something else or has a creative sound aproach. Might be one of my favourite genres if not for almost any band sounding the same.

There's only one post-hardcore band worth listening to; Glassjaw.

Good band, but not the best, and often overrated.

Anthony Green doesn't have the range that some of the other singers do. I love the music of the bands that he's in, but I can't dig him. Hot Cross is interesting. More like traditional screamo, but I'm enjoying it.

To each his own. He's got talent, but I just can't get into him. Are there any songs you'd recommend?  Maybe I should give him a second spin.

Unless the genre changed and no one gave me notice, much like Emo used to be Weezer and now it's My Chemical Romance.

No offense taken since....

"Yeah, there are some punk, hardcore, and metalcore type bands in there, but they all have a similar feel and intensity."

"Here are bands that I usually throw into mixes. I know they're not all post hardcore, but like I said, it's the music and vibe I'm looking for in suggestions."

Also, the -ish might have hinted that I wanted similar bands that didn't necessarily fit the post hardcore genre. Your e-peen was just penalized 1 inch.

Has At The Drive-In been mentioned? I've always considered them post-hardcore.  As well as These Arms Are Snakes.

I've never seen the words Glassjaw and Overrated in the same sentence before. It feels wrong.
