Title: My Milwaukee Experience....
Post by: White Pwny on May 29, 2010, 09:39 PM
So I live in Illinois, but being the avid Deftones fan that I am....   Jax and I made the trip.   We had a great time... got thru the doors... and then I receive a text from a friend of mine to come out to the busses.    We went out... risking being able to come back in.   We ended up on the bus...  chillin ... watching lost and smokin up.   Stef is an awesome dude, and he sat and talked and talked to us... then Sergio came thru the door and chilled a bit with us.   We then go outside, because quite honestly at this point, I'm wasted.   lol.    I sat with Stef and Jax and we BS'd a lil while .. and I tried to sober up.   Then, some dude comes up.. says  give me about 5 minutes, and I'll take you girls thru the back entrance.   .... we sit a lil while longer .. and he came back .. grabbed us, handed us passes and told us to put them on.   we did and we entered back stage and I ended up getting some pretty damn good vids from the show... FROM in front of the rail.   It was so much fun!!!!     Then afterwards, we ended up back at the busses, bs'n and chillin out.   And then we started on our 3 1/2 hour ride home.     I had a blast, and I'm so glad that my bestie was there with me.

They are doing with SNW what metallica is doing with st anger, ignoring it because it seems to be the most hated album. I think they really shouldnt do that, a lot of us love some some of the stuff in that album

SNW really was a great album.  Well, like half of it anyways.  But they shouldn't ignore those songs.  And I hate how they seem to pick WGTB as a fan favorite over Battle Axe.  Battle Axe is one of their best songs.  The only one I even listen to of ST anymore.  That's still a great set list though.

I think they ignore SNW because the album is of a completely different mindset and it would kind of ruin the vibe. I doesn't have the uplifiting mood DE tries to create.

You're right about that.  It is much darker, or maybe depressing is the right word.  But I think they could stick a little Kimdracula in there or maybe combat.

IT is dark but i really feel a lot of effort was put into this album in terms of song writing. Deftones always find a way to re-invent themselves and I see it best in SNW.

I think Chino put a lot of himself into SNW.  Going through the shit he was going through and stuff.  Oddly enough, as I am typing this cherry waves came on, ( I have my iPod on shuffle ) and I must say, this is a great song.  HITE sucked, and I think pink cell phone was just for fun.  But other than that, the other songs on SNW are actually really good.  I think maybe just too many people were expecting a metal album.

I don't do a WHOLE hell of a lot of reading on bands at all.  But I do have a slight obsession with tool and have read a lot of their interviews.  I know they hardly ever play prison sex or 10,000 days-wings for Marie because of the meaning it has for Maynard.  He stated that those two song lyrics are the only lyrics he ever regretted writing.  Maybe Chino feels a little bit the same about SNW?  Kinda like I have heard ( I think from Kelly ) that NIN never plays The Perfect Drug because Trent hates thinking about that time in his life.  I could be way off here though.

I think SNW has a really similiar sound to diamond eyes. They both kind of have a spacey jazz vibe to them. I dont know why they dont play any songs off it though. I would have loved to hear beware, I think they pefected it live after seeing their 09 performances of it.

I love beware.  Great song.

I don't know though.  Maybe Sinner and Jackie can ask Steph for us?  Seeing as how they are drinking buddies and all.

I think thats def a possibility. Although selftitled was also recorded with alot of bad shit going on at the same time. They even refer to it as dark days. Yet they still play from it.

I'd say their more than just drinking buddies. I think theres a good portion of the "Milwaukee experience" that she left out.

Chino mentioned in a Saturday Night Wrist interview, that the songs are personal to him and he never wants to listen to them.i gotta say though the lyrics are pretty dark and he also mentioned how he hates listening to people's problems in songs and wants to write metaphorical stuff that doesn't depress

I definitely recognized that he didn't hold that last scream nearly as long as the album but the performance was sick as hell anyway and the scream that he did manage to get out was nothing to scoff at. But yes, it was not his best. Still, I was very pleased that they played it. Way better than Madison who got "Back To School" instead. Ha! That blows. Sorry for gloating.

Man you are so lucky.
I live in South Africa so I've never seen them live.
I wish they would come down here but I don't know if it will ever happen.
I'll have to go to Europe to see them - it's something I have to do before I die
