Very cool. :-) Good to see they let all this stuff that would have torn most bands apart and put it in a positive direction.

''There's a zest for life and a positive mental vibe that went into [the recording]. although there's some very dark and violent lyrics on the record, I think Diamond Eyes has a very uplifting charge to it!''

I totally feel it!

There's tons of contrast on this album. It's like there's always a light, beautiful verse part to accompany an angry chorus or vice versa. Or just straight out aggressive or just straight out beautiful. Nothing like Self Titled, where you think they're going to let up on the darkness, but it never comes, not even on Moana! And that to me is dark.

Diamond Eyes and 976-EVIL are the darkest songs, in my opinion. Yet Diamond has such an epic and amazing chorus, it's uplifting.. in a dark way, haha where as 976's chorus somehow makes me want to ball my eyes out, yet it's another epic fuckin' chorus. I just feel the upbeat feel to this, every song is brilliant and Chino has put maximum effort in, you can just feel it man.

You know what I mean? :)

1. Diamond Eyes : sad, bit pissed
2. Royal                  : angry, uplifting.. ends with hell tough lol.
3. CMND/CTRL     : straight pissed off (noticed odd time signatures?)
4. Butcher               : sad, uplifting chorus (which has a cool swing btw)
5. Beauty School   : bittersweet.. ending on sad note
6. Prince                 : different emotions; "relaxed" vibe verse, drama chorus, pissed off bridge (next single i think)
7. Rocket Skates  : intense and dark, but sorta romantic
8. Sextape              : bittersweet... ending "with a smile"
9. Risk                    : a bit sad, but not too dramatic... rather naive/dreamy than positive (sounds like SNW material)
10. Evil                    : same, bit sad, not too much.. but definitely worried.
11. Death               : very dramatic, sadness (one of best songs)

the uplifiting feeling is definitley there, but not the overal motif at all.

i would disagree.

the album is definetly not sad. Id say more spaced out than anything.
some parts are a bit melancholy but compared to the S/T its nothing. Some songs are even a little poppy. but its a fucking amazing record. catchy for deftones IMO. Lots of aggression too but not as dark. more driving riffs fueled by very good vocal melodies and tons of ambience on pretty much every track

I think throughout the album there is tension growing and then its released. Like beauty school. during the verse and pre-chorus its like they drag you up a clif and drop you off. The chorus gives me that im falling feel.  Great album cant wait till it drops so i can listen to it again...

i actually feel less melancholy in S/T, and think this one isnt all that catchy. think i "got" the other records faster.

No melancholy in S/T? Wow dude. Sorrow just leaks from that album.

strange. I found that all the songs on the first listen were really really good. other albums some songs were growers mostly S/T to be honest. just my opinion though

Not a man though, more of the female variety  :)
No problems about posting - I can't contribute with music and videos so these clips are my small contributions  :)

Pretty is the best description I've heard yet.

As far as uplifting or not... Personally, the album puts me in a happy state of mind.   :)
