I have heard a few rumors that what we are hearing is not the final mix or an incomplete mix. Personally I don't buy this cause rs and de sound the same as the regular versions.
A bigger question is who leaked it and how does it affect the band? I know 99% of the people on here are going to buy a copy and many will buy two. What about the average Joe though? Anybody think this could really hurt sales or be detrimental to the band?
Another rumor I have read conjectures that the band themselves leaked it because the file says leaked dub. I find this one ridiculous but I am just putting it out there. My hope is that the leak just generates good word of mouth and this thing sells like hotcakes but who knows...
What would the files saying "leaked dub" have anything to do with the band leaking the album?

I agree totally but that is a theory on some other boards. I really doubt the band would do it. Intact they are probably none too happy right now. Makes no sense for them to do it. I would think they would put the album art out first, but hey, conspiracy theories abound.

i dont feel too bad for them. i know they make good money from their shows with a pretty solid fanbase. other bands dont have that

hey i said "maybe". prove me wrong.. prove me wrong :)
Well its in this 2 months after a single has been released that radio stations start getting copies of the albums so someone probably stole the cd, ripped it and uploaded. Another possibility is someone from the factory did the same thing or it could have been stolen from their computer. Though i think the most possible scenario is the radio station one.
The band would never try to leak their own record because they actually hope it doesnt leak and sells so the label doesnt have to worry about losses and dropping them. then y make us wait?just write the songs and give it to us..
I believe it's not the final mix because of the difference in rocket skates audio quality and the rest of the record.

I dont think it was a factory leak.. it would have come with the album cover at least.

Have not heard that but it is pretty interesting. The end of beauty scholl seems to have a good bit of hiss, etc. for me.
cant complain tho. its good quality for an album that I didnt think would leak this quickly
Don't get me wrong, no complaints here. But isn't it our job to analyze every minute detail to death? :)
Some of the songs just don't sound completely finished to me, sometimes Chino is buried too much in the mix and sometimes Frank's input just jumps out randomly way too loud. But it does sound MASTERED correctly so maybe it is the final version. Only the month of May will let us know...

Also, the spaces between tracks seem a little odd.
It is the final version. The quality is 320kps. No leaks are ever that high in quality if they're this early!
What's so crazy about the rumour of Deftones themselves leaking it? Has anyone seen how many views Rocket Skates has gotten on Youtube!? Something tells me this leak will only mean good things for the band.
The Blackening leaked by Machine Head and that was still huge. Sacrament by Lamb of God leaked and it was their highest Billboard release at that time, same with their next album Wrath, that leaked a few weeks before and still, it hit higher than Sacrament and has cemented their Arena status in the States. Death Magnetic leaked two weeks early, oh look, it's Metallica's biggest release in years. Slayer's World Painted Blood leaked a few weeks early and that was still succesful, Same with All Hope Is Gone by Slipknot, they hit number 1 on the Billboard ffs.
Anyone who has caught up with the times, needs to. It is inevitable for an album leak now. It's no longer 'how' but 'when' it will leak.
If the songs are good and the videos are played often (Rocket Skates) and they're insanely popular (like it evidently is on Youtube) people will go find out where the leak of the album is, check it out and if they love it, they're most likely to go to a show and buy some merchandise. Even buy the physical copy, because they like to have the packaging and high quality. Same with Diamond Eyes the song, it's excellent, I'm sure when there's a video for that and it's released, people will be like ''Man I'm looking forward to this album''
Compare Rocket Skates/Diamond Eyes to Hole In The Earth/Mein, they piss all over them (and I'm not saying those tracks aren't good, they're awesome) but 1. Rocket Skates just nails it and Diamond Eyes is just pure epic and a lot darker than Mein, plus it sounds like nothing we've heard before. It's like a mainstream/melodic Meshuggah.
I only get a good feeling from this leak and the coming success of the album. Everyone loves to get on their high horse and get all angry about it leaking. But it's time to realize, it's going to happen and it gets more people keen and into what it is that is leaking. This is only a good thing for a band and I'm sure they'll know this themselves. It's all about controversy and hype to get interest. All it's going to take is a Kerrang! News section saying ''Outrage as new Deftones Album leaks Two months early!'' then people are going to check it out, fan or not.
People, let's get over the CD sales bullshit. They make barely ANY money from CD sales, the record label does and we all know the record label isn't around for the interests of the band (or any band for that matter) only themselves (the publicity/advertising/marketing for SNW is a prime example of this, it was poor!) If this leak gets more people to a show and buying Merch. It's a WIN/WIN situation for the band.
They've already earned a good £60 (100$) from me, since I'm planning on going to a few show when they hit up the UK next. I haven't seen them in years and I've GOT to see some of the new stuff live. Same goes with pretty much everyone who has downloaded the leak on here. Right?

I understand what you're saying for sure.
Who knows, 'leaks' could be part of the strategy of putting out a record now... instead of fighting it, they could be using it.
That's on one hand. On the other it could just be the usual tale of leaking an album.
Publicity wise, leaking an album probably does help.
Alright like its been said countless of times. Bands do not make much money of physical copies. Hell i think its the same for digital.
As for leaks, its like someone said earlier. Its now a matter of 'when'. Every new album leaks. Thats just the reality. On the subject of the label dropping them. I think the band is past the point of needing a label. They could do a radiohead/trent reznor release. And every true or hardcore fan on here would glady pay knowing that the cash is going directly to the band.

Not at all mate! :)
that just seems like wishful thinking to me.... i dont think warner bros, who makes a living on selling copies, put the copies out for free.thats suicide. if a person who would hear the new deftones rec in relation to when it drops then maybe it would be good for them... because that person would think it was fresh and buy it. but as it is know... many people who arent die hard fans but still would be potential buyers, will propbably be tired of it when it drops and look for other things and dont buy it. i think it would sell best when everyone's got the "wow - feeling" of hearing it for the first couple of times...but that wow-feeling will be gone in middle of may when leaking so early.... only fans will buy it.such early leak would be a bad plan, if the leak would be of any good it would be in may. and i really began to laugh when metallica would have gave songs away for free, they and their label will never be like that, they are stuck in the past.
and putting out a single or two for the promotion is one thing, like and advertisement for the whole record. but leaking the entire album is a completely other thing.why do they put out teasers with a riff and shots of the cover and when the whole shit is out? doesnt make any sense. if it is true, that the teaser riff strategy and leaking the album is both strategy, then the other hand doesnt really know what the other hand is doing. the ideas collide. i dunno maybe im the stuck in the past.
(and subliminal would go see the show anyway, even if u hadnt heard the record :)
the guy who leaked it is on a website that i'm on. he said that he ripped it from a stream supplied by the label for review purposes. there you go. and yes it is a transcode - that means it's not actually 320kbps quality.

i got the same version. strange to be marketing the record with those mp3's ?
white pony leaked about 2 months early 10 years ago. i remember downloading the leak from napster. still the record was successful. no harm done.
yeah but the discussion in this thread is if it was done on purpose from the label. (and we dont know if it made any harm back in 2000 with white pony.. maybe it would have sold the double if it werent able for downloading. we have nothing to compare to)
At the 53 second mark of Prince i've noticed someone laughing in the background, when i have my headphones in i think someones looking at me and laughing and then realise its in the song! I doubt thats meant to be a part of the song??
im not to sure for this to be a final cut. the quality is certainly doubtful
it's weird cause the album is already posted twice on youtube, and it hasn't been taken down yet. WMG don't seem to care too much about the leak it seems.

I just checked like 10 times, and I'm pretty positive my version does not have this at all. And the download I had gotten is a 320kbps version as well. I can post up the song if you want me to prove.
it really wont change anything. if warner bros want people to get their stuff for free, why isnt the mp3s available on their website or at deftones.com?
the discussion sadly and obviously will stop at "hey,i like downloading stuff for free, maybe warner want me to? i think so!" ...thinking in egostic ways....insted of thinking of how the minds at warner operates. it seems like if u hate buying records you will support the theory that warner, who likes making big bucks, want peolpe to get it for free before the drop. my guess is that if either one of you who support the "give stuff away for free" theory exist at warner, if u would work there a day u would laugh at that opinion.
they should in that case do like radiohead and post it on a site and have an option to actually donate some money for it..insted of releasing it without such a option at all
I just hope this version that we have does not change for the real release, save for maybe quality.
But as for quality goes, even in my car with my system and headphones, etc, this sounds really good and mastered. But I'm no audio techie so maybe I'm wrong.
It's clearly the finished product. Every song sounds brilliant through my stereo and all these little sounds people are noticing are either from Frank or because they've got a lesser quality than 320kps ;)

Leaking it in spite of the label, because the label treats them like shit. Look at what happened to promote SNW.....exactly, barely anything.

I'm just saying, in support of the rumour.. that's the only reason why I can see it being leaked by the band themselves. People are so quick to call these things crazy. But it'd make sense to leak it. Since the Label hasn't done them any favours since White Pony and if anyone wishes to disagree with that, it's fine. The evidence is all there.

Ironically Warner seems to have got behind them this time. I think the real release will be cleaner than this one. It is good but there is a decent amount of hiss at song endings, quiet parts etc.

Really? I don't hear any of that on the songs I've got. Mine sounds like a finished album to me.
I say if the record is good, it's going to sell. Leaking shouldn't matter. Hell, what's the difference between people getting it now or just downloading it after it's released? The same amount of money is lost.
Warner pumps in lots in advertising, rocket skates video etc. and they dont do it to be nice, theyre doing it as an investment to make money. they want their spent money back (and then some) - in the form of record revenues, they want to harvest what they have sowed, and therefor it would be incredibly rude of the deftones to release the disc for free, months before.hell I do think it's pretty criminal. sounds far-fetched.
and if they dont like they label and their ways, why the hell do the contiunue to work with them?

I can't believe people think the MP3's burnt onto a CD and played through your car stereo sounds good. Fuck. And the fact these MP3's could likely be a rip from some stream off a website...
a comment on it-leaked.com:
QuoteThis is a webrip from a secure stream of the album. Supposedly you can hear Gmail chat sounds in track 4, though I haven't noticed them yet because my computer speakers are horrible. Either way, this will hold me over til we get a legit scene rip.
for a legit release we need to wait for a scene release...

I think you need to get a different leak then cause it sounds to be 100% different than mine and some others' versions. Mine is not shitty quality whatsoever.

Links are dead, copyright infringement. Checked mine again and it is 320. Hiss is most noticable at the end of sextape or beauty school. Can't remember which. I could also hear the beeps on hystb, 3 very faint beeps between :40 and :50. I think 43, 45, and 48.
How do you know that's not part of the editing maybe?
I did download your torrent though and at first listen it does appear to be the same. Other than these slight noises you mentioned, where in them does it sound like bad quality or quality less than retail? I don't get it?
I've listened now several times on ipod/headphones, PC speakers, and my car system..I didn't notice anything short of a 'final sound' that I can point out..
Hmm..
I hear those beeps too.. I dont know if its supposed to be there or not.. guess we'll find out.

I hear that on mine too, badly. There's no denying that one. Mines a 320kps leak aswell. Maybe this isn't the final product then?
But I'm fussy on quality, I like FLAC Lossless when I have it on my ipod, I have to have the full ass mix (since I'm a musician too and I notice the tinny Mp3 sound a LOT) The leak sounds damn impressive though. Funny how I hadn't noticed the hissing until you mentioned it to me, PLUS I haven't had it majorly loud through my headphones, only in one ear and at mid volume most of the time.

Contract. You sign up for a certain amount of albums. Usually around 4 to 10. They probably signed up for 3 with the label, then when White Pony was so huge, they signed up for 4 more. S/T, SNW, Diamond Eyes, then they'll release Eros and be free from the label. But I'm just guessing and speculating.
My original post was to address the doubts in the rumour of themselves leaking it. When it's entirely possible. They're internet savvy guys afterall. Unlike a lot of popular bands from the past.
Like I said, the label aren't their best friends. SNW could've been a White Pony part 2 in terms of success, but it flopped (not that it matters to the band or us fans) But ask the people who are happy to be gone from a major record label i.e Trent Reznor (NIN) they hardly want to push you, they just want that reliable source of income from you and your product.
mine seems beep, clip, hiss and whatever else free. overall decent quality.

Dude, whack your volume up on the last 10-5 seconds of Beauty School (if you have headphones in) and see if you hear the hissing?
Watch out for Prince kicking in loudly after though ;) lol
the guy named iceache on this board is responsible for leaking this album, I heard. He was on another board saying he got it from his cousin who works for kroq.
I don't hear any of the problems that keep getting mentioned.
Although it would be nice to get the final copy, so it could be just a little louder (not a brick of wall loud) on the drums and bass

I think the cd will have much better sound. Perhaps even a mix that is more even. Or did you mean this is as good as it gets til then, cause I agree with that. Regardless this is not bad at all, but I for one would be pretty unhappy if I bought a cd and it sounded like this.
I don't understand how a lot of you guys can't hear how "flat" this is. Especially in the car. Listen to the bass in change or digital bath then listen to the bass on prince. I hear a huge difference in the car. Hell, even on an iPod.
Might be interesting to compare de coming out this week to the leaked one...
I just can't understand how you guys think a car sound system is an adequate place to judge the quality of a piece of music......
Anyway, I agree with whoever that said that it's close to impossible to have 2 different leaks... Come on, one is already highly improbably that early, so 2.....
I'm pretty sure the hypothesis of a "stream rip" is the correct one. I can hear the "gmail chat" sounds too on YSTB, so it seems pretty likely.
And it should be obvious to see it's a transcode with Adobe Audition, so if anyone has it and cares to post screenshots...
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the fully mastered version either, you can still pick up some differences between the way songs "sound" (for lack of a better word, sorry), even though it's pretty cohesive already...

I mean a car with a good sound system, not stock radio/speakers. This shit sounds ridiculous with 2 subs and aftermarket speakers...perfect, clear bass and every other aspect sounds great as well. Have you guys listened to music with a
good car stereo system? Best place to listen to music for the fun of listening, not examining.
You're being the pixel peepers of the music world. Instead of blowing up digital photos online to check every pixel for noise/shake, you guys seem to be listening to music in crystal clear DJ headphones just to listen for any little imperfection in sound.
Stop checking so much lol.

Actually, I love checking music in crystal clear environment and with good headphones, cause you'll hear not the "imperfections" but all the details of the music that were added, and that you cannot make out otherwise.
You should try once listening to music with
good (like REAL good) headphones, I swear you'll change your mind immediately...

I do have expensive, good huge headphones that keep all outside sound out, but I prefer the car system much more for rocking out :) The bass is impressive to me every time, and Rockfords are very clear bass-wise, good for rock music like this.
Hearing the subs' bass in any good song, especially Royal for example, gives me shivers every time.
in the car i find i get too much interference with traffic and wind and such since i live in the city but i do have a nice little soundsystem at home that i rocked this shit out on last night and the bass was huge. headphones in a dark room with a joint is still my preferred method of experiencing music though. then again i have my headphones on almost constantly while i write, play video games and even when i'm hanging out with friends. they're used to it so it doesn't come off so rude. they all know music is my number one love in life and even my girlfriend has accepted it.
Yeah see, I mean a crazy sound system that, with the windows down, all you hear and feel is the music and bass. You are completely engulfed in the sound and vibration. This shit is like hammered into you (in a good way). No exhaust/wind/road noise even comes to your ears at this point :)
It's godly.

It's not my theory, it's the theory if they had leaked it or close enough. Use your imagination. I'd leak my own album if I was stuck on a shitty label and in a contract I signed years ago, does that make me a criminal? or does that make me the rightful owner of MY music, trying to take the power back with who and how the person gets to hear it?

KILL YOURSELF
please keep it more civil and mature than that.
Really?
If someone starts an 'I've heard a few rumors' thread, they should kill themselves.
And you (a MODERATOR) should give a fuck. Sorry.
I give a fuck about wether people act decent or not here. there's nothing wrong with starting a thread if you want to share a rumor you heard - given the rumor isn't flat out ridiculous. there's reason to suspect the leak not being the final version and it might prove to be useful information worth discussing. either way, it's not your place to decide. disagree with him all you want, but do it in a nicer tone.
If this leak isn't the final version, then I'm the queen of England.
But I'm on your side. It's not my place to decide. Fuck it.
I'm confused.
I'm scared.
I don't know where I am right now.
God bless.
Help me.
It's OK, your highness. :)

if the record company go in with lots of money in form of advertising, videos, certainly pay studio time and producers, etc,etc (big dollars)
i can guarantee u they want their money back in the form of record sales.deftones and Warner have agreed on this. and if deftones, after they took part of all that money, illegally release the disc on the side, it is most likely criminal. subliminal support this theory. well there u go
It's not a crime/illegal if you don't get caught :)
Deftones and Warner would have agreed on this many moons ago, way even before Deftones knew about the crock of shit that is the music business. Once you've signed on the dotted line, you're trapped. The only way out is to end the band, split or leave or make the same band under a different name. But would these guys give up their name just because of their contract? hell no. Aslong as the music gets out to the people that will turn up to see you play, why would the physical cd sales matter? bands make all their money from live gigs and merchandising. The physical number of CD sales only benefit the label. Profit, profit, profit. For them! ;)
Like I've said before, the past 5 years have seen countless big albums get leaked or even lesser known albums. Yet they're always more succesful than the one before? I wonder why this is, could it be the hype surrounding it's leak has gained more momentum than the actual advertising the label has put into place? hmm, you tell me!

korn had to sign directly for 7 records back in '94, i dont follow the discussion, but these deals exist.
Slayer signed for 10+ records with Def Jam, they've got one/two more to go. Same with Metallica, Death Magnetic was their final album in their deal. It's how the business works, you have to forefill the contract and the company owns the rights to YOUR creation. Sounds great..
slayer on defjam lol isnt that jay-z's label?
Following the success of Hell Awaits, Slayer was offered a recording contract with Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin's newly founded Def Jam Records, a largely rap-based label.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slayer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slayer)

Weird, I hear the Soulseek message beep in You've Seen The Butcher. Don't know if it's the same thahttps://adserver.itsfogo.com/click.aspx?zoneid=29537t you can hear on Gmail, I don't use Gmail. But I definitely thought I had a message on soulseek while listening to YSTB.
Its pretty obvious then it needs to be mastered and mixed further. I c this leak as a positive in a way because this will trigger people into acquiring the product which means the booklet and of course the final mastered high quality version of music u pay for.

That was leaked just as became a CD. I remember it was only a few weeks prior to release.
And yes, it was more succesful than Self Titled, why do you think? the internet wasn't blooming when that came out. It was still all dial up and msn. SNW tooks years to come out and there was hype about their return, plus the internet of course. But anyway :)

Illegal? if it was Unlawful, I'd understand where you was coming from. It's their music, their art, their creation, if they wish to leak it, they can and will. They don't have to reveal that they did it though ;)

it cost a lot of dollars to make records u know. speaking of the self titled album, it cost about 2,5 million dollars to produce for maverick. do u really think deftones leaked the album after those kind of costs for diamond eyes? u know they sign papers on this sort of stuff- making it a crime for deftones to go ahead and do so.warner in this case prob own the rights to their music, they dont pump in millions and think its ok for deftones to do whatver they want with that material afterwards.and if u still believe deftones would do so,well then they are criminals
S/T costed 2,5 million to produce? what about that kid in africa.. its a great record.. buh

I didn't even know it had leaked, since I didn't have the internet then, as I was a lot younger, along with the thousands upon thousands of other new generation fans of Deftones. This is my point..times have changed since the release of Self Titled. The internet, physical sales etc. have all dramatically changed since then. Thus making everything easier to get a hold of.
And what's incorrect? a Journalist leaked SNW because it was being into CDs by that point, thus the Journalist got a copy to review, then leaked it.
Sounds correct to me? :)

They never. ::)
hi.
first post here.
firstly, i had a link to a stream of the album. just like whoever leaked it had. it didnt even have my email on it, which is the norm for many records, wasnt even watermarked or anything. it was from a third party PR firm, not even warners-reprise. is there really any surprise this got leaked? it happens (this way) to albums ALL THE TIME. all the fucking time. and the labels know it. there's nothing they can do short of holding listening sessions in-house right up until its pressing time just to prevent leaks. domino record co do that, the only CDs that go out are covered in big red X's and has your name printed on the case, on the disc and watermarked onto the audio - and they're only given to high profile radio Djs and label subsidiary bosses.
secondly, if the band themselves were going to leak this, it'd be from a CD. nobody records a stream of their own album and uploads it when forty copies of the master disc are sitting on their kitchen table.
thirdly, it's mastered. i have no proof whatsoever in saying this, but y'all just gonna have to trust me. a stream of an unfinished album would not get put up. before something is mastered, the only people with the music are the band themselves (sometimes) and the label. MAYBE the mastering house. the second it gets mastered, copies of the album are sent out around the world within days/minutes/hours. the most recent Grizzly Bear record got leaked a day after it was mastered. was sent straight to Warp records, that got put on a server somewhere for a back up and ta-dah! leaked.
this isn't out of the ordinary, this leak. it happens every day.
sorry for that long post! :-*
When did SNW leak? i forget i think it was a couple weeks before it came out.
This one leaked kind of early but im still going to buy, as most of you here will. i just hope everyone else follows suit. Deftones really deserve it, they have been a pretty influential band for 20 years. Korn may have started the whole thing in Socal but deftones gave it fire. Deftones have been my favorite band since I heard My own summer on the matrix VHS back when i was in middle school in 98 or 99. Thats why i think ATF is my favorite record i can play that shit all day and never get tired of it. Anyway im rambling, but im rooting for the guys because the went above and beyond what i expected on this record and i think they deserve some credit for being one of the best if not the best band to come out of the 90's.
Should have tried downloading a song in 98/99. Was a nightmare!

I really don't even get the argument. I don't think ANYONE thinks they leaked it themselves! It was simply a rumor on other boards. Only a fool would believe that Deftones leaked thier own album. It was a RUMOR. It was being discussed in hypothetical terms.
For anyone interested in Deftones stance on downloaders listen to the creepshow podcast from December. They (Steph & Chino) make it abundantly clear that they don't give a fuck if people download thier music.

Like I said to
Vesanic, read what I've said again.. direct quote me saying I believe they leaked the album and I'll accept it :)
I was arguing in favour of them leaking their own album, the possibility for them to leak their own album and why it wouldn't be a crazy assumption to make. Steph said it himself. Deftones are my favourite band, I happen to listen to what they say and actually appreciate their work of art over their image.
Then there's you coming along and saying they'd be criminals for leaking their own creation
jesusinabowlofdirt, it's a fucking joke. Now when
Vesanic is over the fact that
Chino isn't chubby anymore and you stop trolling every thread, this forum might actually be a decent place to post. It's no wonder this place goes dead, it's because of people like you.
Now I apologise to
Vesanic for being rude, but you just ask for it everytime, it's not like you're saying
''I can see your point about Deftones leaking their own album, but I don't buy it, I disagree with you'' it's always in the shortcut tone of
''Wrong, Subliminal does, Oh I'm right about everything, I'm mighty Vesanic of SharingLungs'' NO, I didn't and I don't think they leaked it, I believe it to be a possibility since that's what life is about, infinite possibility, do you know the band personally? no, is it self-evident as to how shit their label treats them? yes. Call it a conspiracy if you will, but it's not exactly shocking to
'think' they would leak their own album to gain momentum over something they're so proud of.
I don't know, maybe I'm just use to using my imagination and you guys are just right about everything and will always be right.
I can see both sides of the debate. At the end of the day we just don't know, so we'll all have our own thoughts on it leaking I guess...
If they did leak it, I guess it would be for us, or to piss the label off but I can't see it myself. They must have prepared for it leaking anyway, seeing as it's part of what happens these days.
Bringing up the question has certainly made me think about it though - The band leaking it could be a tool to use the underground-band method of generating some interest/hype via the Internerd.
This argument is way out of control and has become foolish.
Everyone has good points. Yes, thier label treats them like shit. They seem to be getting behind them more this go around though. Jesus you really escalated things quickly by calling them criminals and resorting to outright hyperbole, however you and Vesanic are correct, there is no chance they leaked thier own album. Period. If they had it would be a final mix without hiss and alert noises. Let it rest boys, you both made great points.

Thank you, exactly what I was thinking.

its like subliminal believe they leaked it.. but when arguments against that hit him,he says "wrong. i dont believe them leaked it,never said it"
but as soon as something comes his way its "SEE? THATS WHAT I'vE BEEN SAYING THE WHOLE TIME,I KNEW THEY LEAKED IT"
you know subliminal, just pick a chair and sit on it.... when you try to sit between 2 chairs you will fall down on your ass

Chadwick Von Poopydrawers.
And I still giggle about that post. For me it's the official name of the cat.
omg ;D
I saw that Diamond Eyes leaked a while back. What can a band do to try and stop this happening?
Nothing. [laughs] Nothing. It's inevitable it's going to leak at any point. I mean, ours happened to leak two months early, which is a long time. It's pretty much understood it's going to leak a week to two weeks out. That's pretty much common. You can do nothing. It's just the way of the world we live in. You try your hardest to protect it. The main thing is man - shit, you can't lose sleep over it because it's going to happen - the main thing is we always wish is that our album [if it leaks, is] complete. The one that's out there now wasn't even complete. It was mixed, but it wasn't mastered. That's the most frustrating part. But - what do you do? It's been out for over a month now. You just roll with it. The leak is not sonically how [the finished product] sounds, and it's very frustrating when something that's not done gets out.
From: http://www.thevine.com.au/interviews/articles/deftones-_-interview.aspx (http://www.thevine.com.au/interviews/articles/deftones-_-interview.aspx)
quotes from all members about the leak:
Sergio: "The thing that irks me isn't so much that people hear it, it's that you don't get to present it your way and have it unfold in a certain way," he said. "It's something you put energy and effort into, so you like to present it for people a certain way,and that's part of the art."
Steph said he "thought diamond eyes should _eventually_ be given away.." meaning he didnt leak it for before the release
Chino "I care, I think about the fact we worked hard for this" he says "this record was a big chance for us.What leaked I thought, 'okay, let me look for it then' I found it in 5 minutes and downloaded it three minutes later for free. I thought, 'wow I worked on this for three years, pretty much, and in three minutes some one can just download it for free"
Frank: I mean it sucks. No-one really wants to have something they have been working on leaked without your consent, especially when it's just because of people's impatience, you know?
Abe: "You try your hardest to protect it."
