Title: I need your help. (Days in December)
Post by: lostpilot on Sep 08, 2009, 11:23 PM
so okay. I had this song for like three years now.. it's by a band Days in December. they have only this one song recorded, "Main.in.Vine", and that happened like fifteen years ago or something, they released it in this split with Sweater Weather:

basically.. I cannot easily define the genre of this song, the problem is I cannot find any other bands that would have that kind of sound, that kind of emotion and general feeling. So what I want you to do, is download this song, listen to it and tell me if you know any bands that sound similar to that.

what I love about this song - the vintage mature feeling of the songs, no electronica whatsoever, general soft feeling of the music.. yeah.

here's the link, help is really appreciated. I've been dying to get something more like this, but this is the only song. (yes, this band has a semi live radio promo thing, but the quality of that recording is unbearable, so that does not count).

p.s. nowadays there's another band with this title. ignore that shitty band.

I believe I tried some two of those bands.. still weren't the same.. maybe cause of the vocalist. Anyway, thank you for those suggestions, I will definitely look into that. should I concentrate on the word EARLY?

the problem is that, like, em..

say Mineral, yeah - I checked some tracks on last.fm, basically they sound the way The Appleseed Cast sounded on early stages.  the problem is that they still sound like somewhat kids. that track of Days in December sounds so much more mature. I have no other word to express it rather than mature.
shit i gotta do some more research on this :(

Well, a band with similar vocals and overall feeling is out there, came to my mind as soon as I put the track on.

That band would be Wintersleep. Forget their latest album though and get their self titled from 2003 or their Untitled from 2005.
A youtube clip of one of their songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38bn3e4qtFA&feature=related

I hope this fulfills your hopes of finding something similar to that Days in December song.

Tell me what you think and I'll hook you up with their 2 first albums if necessary.

Edit. The new album is the most well taken by the crowd but I feel that it really lacks emotion and maturity. The first 2 albums on the other hand are so full of emotion. Most emotional stuff that I have heard. I will add another youtube clip from their first album. The clip above is from their second album, which was also a great emotion filled album.

Some kid actually did a good job with that video, couldn't really find any of the stuff from the first album on youtube but this is a great great song to describe the emotion of the album and the whole band.

A few of the Days in December members (the vocalist and I don't know) went on to form the band: Castor. They've released two albums: "Tracking Sounds Alone" and "Castor", the drummer said they never got to record other songs.

Jani,

I have the WEFT radio recording, but the quality of it is unbearable for actual recreational listening.
While Very Secretary is different from what Days in December made.

btw Castor had somewhat similar sound. which was nice. probably will dig deeper.
thanks for the info, guys:)

You are very welcome man. You are also basically the first one to like that band when Ive tried to promote them. They really are awesome :) The lyrics hit me still after all these years, and the simplicity of the musi itself is just  great.
