Title: Midi-keyboard
Post by: Crazylegs on Aug 21, 2009, 06:23 PM
I've been planning to get a midi-keyboard to play around with at home, and i'm just wondering if any of you on here have any tips on which keyboard to get. At the moment i've got my eyes on an M-audio oxygen 49. I know i want something with 49 keys and it should be in the same price class as the oxygen, about 150 of your american $ if i'm not mistaken.

Let me know if you have any tips.

I have the Oxygen 49 and it's very usable. I just use the keys, I haven't assigned the buttons and knobs to any sample payback software etc but you can do this. It doesn't have weighed action in the sense of a real piano hammer action and can feel a bit plastic but for general home studio use, it's great. It's USB 2,0 and it's probably best to download the latest drivers from the M-Audio website.

have you tried the keyrig 49? looks like pretty much the same keyboard only with fewer knobs and stuff.

Yeah it looks the same as the Oxygen 49. If it's cheaper and you don't feel you will use any of the knobs and buttons, then go for the KeyRig 49.

I have an E-mu Xboard 49. It's worth getting something with that amount of keys so you don't have to keep shifting octaves if you have something big in your head. It does its job well. Not very expensive but the keys feel nice and solid.
