Local radio station that doesn't have any Michael Jackson on hand but wanted to pay tribute to him decided to play "Hole In The Earth". I thought that was neat and a different interpretation of the song than I had.

I checked all news sites and music boards. i can't believe this is true! But the terrible news seem to be real. Please be respectful to one of the most influencing artists.

And I thought everyone should consider watching MTV right now. They are playing what made that channel relevant in the first place: Michael fucking Jackson.
Yessir.
Gonna tune into MTV now..it's been a while.
I'm soo incredibly sad about this. :( This was my first concert ever. :'(
Shocking. The first time I've felt sick on news of a celebrity dying. I was so stunned. I was holding out that CNN were right and it was just a coma but fuck man.

Keep in mind,no matter how creepy he was and no matter what stupid shit he did, some of your idols admire the crap outta him. And before he was a freak,he was an awesome musician that paved the way for many artists. All celebrities/sports stars are child molesters, wife beaters, spouse killers, theives, alcoholics, drug addicts,adulterers.... if we based our admiration of people by the way they lived their lives,we'd have nobody to admire. With that said,I do not condone child molestation. But I do blame his horrible childhood on the person he became. /rant
There are two things to say about him. He was a musical genius; and he was an abused child. By abuse, I do not mean sexual abuse; I mean he was used brutally and callously for money, and clearly imprisoned by a tyrannical father. He had no real childhood and spent much of his later life struggling to get one. He was spiritually and psychologically raped at a very early age - and never recovered. Watching him change his race, his age, and almost his gender, you saw a tortured soul seeking what the rest of us take for granted: a normal life.
But he had no compass to find one; no real friends to support and advise him; and money and fame imprisoned him in the delusions of narcissism and self-indulgence. Of course, he bears responsibility for his bizarre life. But the damage done to him by his own family and then by all those motivated more by money and power than by faith and love was irreparable in the end. He died a while ago. He remained for so long a walking human shell.
I loved his music. His young voice was almost a miracle, his poise in retrospect eery, his joy, tempered by pain, often unbearably uplifting. He made the greatest music video of all time; and he made some of the greatest records of all time. He was everything our culture worships; and yet he was obviously desperately unhappy, tortured, afraid and alone.
I grieve for him; but I also grieve for the culture that created and destroyed him. That culture is ours' and it is a lethal and brutal one: with fame and celebrity as its core values, with money as its sole motive, it chewed this child up and spat him out.
I hope he has the peace now he never had in his life. And I pray that such genius will not be so abused again. - Andrew Sullivan
Couldn't have said it any better myself.

oh i thought you said it..
completly agreed..
also no one is perfect..
everyone made a big mistake, arent you..
and that child fuck thing is not completly clear, he can be innocent
and also his 30 years life was so hard cause of his popularty..
yes he deserve to die (in positive meaning)
but not now..
after his reborn...(the new tours and the new album)
The child molestation allegations were clearly the result of money-hungry parents who saw an opportunity in earning some quick millions. As if ANY parent with love for their child would settle for an amount of money IF their child really had been molested.
It's bullshit.
even though this is quite tragic, unexpected, and I respect MJ for his musical career (man oh man - Billie Jean), still, lets not make SUCH a big fuss about it. it will become the hype of the season. if the Obama was the hype of the last season, MJ's death will be this.

That's retarded. MJ has been around for YEARS and influenced many lives. You can't compare him to Obama. It will continue to be a big fuss for many because he was a big deal.
I thought this was pretty much to the point.
QuoteLike I'm sure so many people did this morning, I listened to "Thriller" on the way to work. I haven't listened to that album in its entirety in years. It's fantastic, really, and holds up far better than I thought it would.
Before I get too into this, let me just say: my public persona is decidedly unsentimental and insensitive. I cracked jokes about Jackson's death and laughed when other people did so yesterday (and likely will for weeks to come). He was amazing, and a peerless entertainer, but was completely fucked up and pretty goddamn scary. Besides, there is not much in this world I can't laugh at. You laugh, or you go insane. That being said, I don't get maudlin very often, so feel free to skip this one if you want to always think of me as a hard-ass bitch.
Anyway, while listening to "Thriller" this morning, memories started flooding back, ones I didn't even realize were buried in the archives. Sitting on my brother's bed in our shared bedroom, listening to "Thriller" fucking endlessly on a portable cassette player with tinny, muffled speakers. Begging my mother to rent the "Thriller" video on VHS and then being scared shitless by it. Watching "Beat It" about a thousand damn times at a friend's house until we got the choreography down. Trying to moonwalk at another friend's house across her living room floor in our socks. I was only six when it aired, but to this day, my father says that Jackson's moonwalk on the Motown TV special was one of the most spectacular things he's ever seen. I even remember when music videos were so important that they would show his new ones during prime-time network TV (after "The Simpsons", say). You'd talk about it the next day at school, whether you were seven or seventeen, because you still frigging cared – on some level – what this dude did.
So, remembering all this weird, archaic, pleasant stuff from my childhood, I actually started to tear up. Not for Michael Jackson, of course, but for myself. When the symbols and icons of your youth die, it's like shutting the door to a room you wish you could go back into. When the people you grew up with – personally or culturally – stop existing, it seems like your childhood gets another step further away. Without those touchstones to spur memories, your early years seem more like something you saw on TV or read in a book or imagined, and less like something you actually lived. An easier, more innocent time is long past, time marches relentlessly on, and life only gets fucking harder and harder.
This is far, far less eloquent than I would like it to be, but it's hard to put into words. It's not the loss of Michael Jackson that has me so upset. He was one of the overarching symbols of what was probably the best part of my life. And it's the loss of that which has me a bit inconsolable this morning.

I said don't make SUCH a big fuss. I open up my online newspaper - and there's SEVEN newslines about the same thing. I mean, come on, people - isn't one enough? Yes, I greatly appreciate what MJ did to music/media overall, but I don't believe any person would be happy if after his death tabloids would live off what is left of his memory and all the fcking RUMORS of all things he did or did not. how many people do you think now are discussing his child molesting/surgery/drug use over the internet?
that's my point. RIP is okay. another HUGE fcking scandal from every little detail is not.

entire internetz are talking about it. Talking talking and talking. Yeah he was pop hero. But there are a lot of bigger heroes worth talking about.

I'm withy ou on that. he had a very messed up childhood. And I don't believe for a minute that he abused or molested children. I just don't.
I'm very, very sad about this. The last time I felt this shocked and upset over a celebrity dying it was Kurt Cobain. But this is just crazy and terribly tragic to me. I barely listen to Nirvana anymore, yet Michael Jackson is someone I listen to at least a couple of times a week.

I mean, sure billie jean is catchy as fuck. But its everything I hate about "music" He didn't write any of that. It all got put together for him and performed in a studio. I haven't found a live performance on youtube where he is not lip syncing. Which tells me that without a studio, his caliber of performance probably goes way down. He was a creation of the industry. All this music wasn't made for artistic purposes, it was made for money. I hate that. And sure, he can dance, and its cool. But what the fuck does that have to do with music? To me, he isn't a musician and his songs aren't music. He is a entertainer and his songs are just entertainment. And to me, most of them aren't all that entertaining......................
and I get that not everybody thinks like me and thats cool and all. But I could just as easily say that I feel sorry for your life if you do like this bull shit. That your world must be shitty if you are entertained by this simpleton bull shit. But I'm not saying that, guess I'm just not as vain as you.

Yeah. Believe it or not I'm not completely stupid. I did take into consideration that he was the first to do a lot of this. I took into consideration the time he came up in. But I'm just not a pop music fan at all.
Then no reason to question why people like his music. You don't like pop, some of us do. That's fairly easy to understand.
i never really got into his music, but MJ did set out a path or rather projected a path which a lotta musicans strived for, now me besides billie jean and thriller idk anything else bout him musiclly, but to me those songs was great..even still with all the allegations and stories about him..what the peeps on here been saying is true:no ones perfect im our Tones boys Puff the Magic Dragon, i mean no ones god...anyways thats my take.
"Do think twice!"
So...have you all forgotten that he was the anti-christ?
Yeah apparently they have. Thats crazy, to reach the point of stardom where people don't even care that you fucked little kids. Say what you will about no one being perfect. Chino may get high, but I doubt he fucks little kids. There is a really big difference between victimless crimes and child molesting.
Some of you say that no parents would settle if their kids actually did get molested. Well I say that if you're innocent, you don't pay out $22,000,000.00 + to settle out of court and let your name be tarnished forever. Multiple members of his family even said they thought him to be a pedophile ( yes I know that La Toya later retracted her statements ) But I remember that one of his brothers never retracted the statement. Jacko even admitted to sleeping in the same bed as children and making negligent judgement calls when it came to how he treated children on Neverland. The trial against him was a civil suit. If I were MJ, and I was innocent, I would have gone to trial to prove it. The kid was even able to give descriptions of his penis and doctors said that there were strong similarities to the boys description and the strip search they did of MJ......... That being said, Evan Chandler seems like a total douche, and no one knows for sure what happened. But I'm not so quick to dismiss all that.

Then no reason to question why people like his music. You don't like pop, some of us do. That's fairly easy to understand.
Yes I know this. I guess it just more so blows my mind that some of you with seemingly good taste in music actually like this stuff. Thats the whole reason I started going to band message boards in the first place. I got sick of not knowing anyone who didn't think this pre fabricated MTV bull shit, sucked. More power to you guys though. There are a couple of you that are my friends who seem to care a lot. So I guess that I care that you guys care.
I will say this in defense of him though. I really wish the media could be more respectful. They are going to pick apart every aspect of his death. I see this getting totally out of control. Oh no, they found prescription drugs in his system. However that is public info, I have no idea ( see HIPPA ). But they really wont let anyone famous die with any dignity anymore.
Thriller was pretty rad...but he fucked kids.
Also, I wonder if La Toya is dead or missing...
Where is Janet? I want to fuck her tits. The news should show more of her.
Ew.

he created his own style, own fashion, own music, own dance..everyone just copied it.
and my guess he is a good person also has an awesome voice and talented at music
his all video clips are part of art !
he is one of the biggest music-man ever.

so i was the judge and who decided ''he is not guilty''
who was paid tons of money to save MJ's public posture
No shit.
Michael was all orignal. one of the best of all time
truly, the undisputed king of pop
the first song i ever called "my favorite song" was "beat it", when the thriller album was new & blowing up like no album ever has. i was really young (3, 4, 5), but i knew how good the stuff he was doing was. the early-mid 80s was Michael mania. it dwarfs how big n'sync, etc got.
i'm 30 now =/ (still love his tunes)
it's weird, i feel bad for him. i have a heavy heart for him. he had a hard life. Joe Jackson did a serious number on those kids. i can understand why Michael was so weird. he never got to have a childhood, Joe made them work on music all day long, beat their asses, etc. he was one unique guy. inocent, like he stayed in child mode his whole life. i dont think he mostested any kids. i dont think he thought like that

dude thats the single most clear statement, ive read about mj's death.
michael most certainly was a but fucked in the head but i'm sure he never had any evil or bad intentions. he just wanted to make up for his shitty childhood.
Very much so. :(
QuoteFor real? I have been listening to all his stuff and watching his videos for the past 2 days because some of the guys at my work are all upset and I just don't get why. I mean I get the end of an era type shit, but I dont get why they like his music so much. Its not that good.
He did write a lot of his older hits and the technology around then didn't feature things like antares autotuners and things so that gives it more backing I guess. Anyway, each to their own, if you don't like it, that's fair/

to Michael that was chump change though(he spent more than that at one time all the time), & i think he was glad to just have it over as soon as possible, cause it was taking such a huge toll on him. i dont think he thought it would make him look more guilty(he wasnt the most logical guy). the 2nd trial he was found inocent. i think had the first trial continued they would have found him inocent as well
I've let this simma a few days to see if I feel any differently aobut it. My take is... I do like alot of his music... I DO NOT like him. He hasn't done shit worthwile in at least the past 10 years. I don't give a shit whether or not its true or NOT about the little boys.. Fact is he paid a SHIT TON of money to make it go away... Innocent people don't normally do it. Another issue is.... if any of us and I DO MEAN ANY of us were that much in debt and "losing our home" we would have all been evicted and we wouldn't have press all over about it. HE did not get evicted, but it was ALL over the place. I don't like that he's gone.. but if he DID do what they CLAIM he did... Good for him. I can look back and appreciate his work... but I don't think I actually mourn the loss. Too many VERY talented people have died... it's a shame.
And I don't think that Michael looked at 22 M as Chump Change.... THIS man even DEAD is in DEEP DEBT.
he should work on the music...not on his face
that was his obvious mistake
but we gotta understand that, he just want to seem beautiful, he got the money, and there werent any friend of him who would say ''dont do it, be yourself''

that's the thing, he'd spend so much at one time, not even thinking about the concept of money, or that it could run out. from the time he was little he had money, & fame. with the abuse, etc. he didnt think straight, he was one of a kind. it's a sad story, i dont think many people would have changed places with him. then his plastic surgeons screwed his face up so bad everyone called him a freak, etc, on top of the odd childish way he lived. he just had it rough.

His popularity made him popular. I remeber seeing free willy and then saw that shit video of the white micheal in front of the giant fans with the unbuttoned shirt and thinking, "this sux". Then when I enquired about this MIcheal Jackson character I was informed he was/is the greatest artist/performer/dancer/fag on earth.
Well, I honestly don't see it. Yea he made some mediocre industry manufactured pop hits in the early 80s, big fucking deal

I haven't really said much about the issue but Michael Jackson was such a talent it's ridiculous. He essentially created what music videos are today. He went to big name film directors to create these visually stunning representations of his songs. Now you might be saying that you don't really like his videos or they're overrated, and that's fine. But consider this: if it wasn't for Michael's idea to have original music videos like he did, we would not have some of the film directors we have today such as David Fincher. You might think I'm stretching things a little bit but you can't deny his creativity.

Yeah he was never convicted because the alleged victim's gold-digging parents never cared to find out if he was guilty - because apparently money erases everything for them.
It's very possible he did do those things, but I'd like to believe that he didn't. And regardless, my feeling is that the "victim's" parents are just as bad if not worse than he is if he was guilty, for deciding that a large sum of $$ is more important than their child's physical/emotional health.
I'm not trying to argue anything, I just think that what we know is limited and it doesn't hurt to look at this from all angles instead of placing judgement based upon what the media reported.

dumbest post ever? Are you just trying to be original and having a go at people that don't agree with you? He didn't get away with anything because of his fame. The trials did ruin his career, yes he slept in the same bed as kids, but never saw it as a sexual thing. I sleep in the same bed as my daughter. Does that mean I'm abusing her.
And, why was he not right in the head? Cause he was a bit weird and maybe his tastes didn't agrre with you? Yes he was weird, but he also had the balls to be himself
Just because he's different doesn't mean he's guilty!

I certainly am. Add on top of it the fact that I have a great amount of empathy for people, I don't make judgements off of shit that I really don't know about. My grandfather, a very well educated and insightful psychiatrist taught me a lot, and I am a future educator of children with disabilities and that includes those with emotional/behavioral disorders.
I'm not claiming to be some sort of expert on anything, but my sympathy and reluctance to jump to conclusions has less to do with my being a fan of someone's music and more to do with me being a human being who has a deep interest in why people do the things they do. When most people place judgement, I sit back and put myself in someone else's shoes.
It just seems so easy to make a judgement, but I remember being taught to "treat others as you would want to be treated". And so I do.

And if I were a child molester, I wouldn't want to be cast out either. Some shit is just unacceptable.
I'm not going to judge MJ and hold him responsible for anything as long as he's not proven guilty in court.
what I will hold him resposible for is the good things he did for people, especially children. no matter how weird he was and what kind of things turned him on sexually, he only wanted the best for everyone in the entire world.
and he was an amazing artist. people who think he lipsynchs and got all his material written for him can just shut the hell up and go to bed because you obviously have no fucking clue. he was an amazing singer, dancer and song writer.
I can't say I'll miss him though because even though I loved him when I was a kid and still enjoy most of his music, he hasn't in any way affected my life in the last 10+ years and I never thought he'd make a worthwhile comeback. to be honest, I think he's finally found the peace he needed. and may he rest well.

Good point. Believe me I'm not an advocate for the "MJ is NOT a molester group", I'm just not going to go around saying that he absolutely did.
I think that saying rumors don't last that long for your average person is true, but I don't know if you can group famous people into that category. They have rumors documented and spread publicly amongst a much larger group than anyone else so it takes much longer for people to forget them and much easier to go along with them since they don't know the person enough to think any differently.
I guess I'm just going to continue to listen to and enjoy his musical career and hope for the best. :)
there's people rotting in jail, & that have been put to death that are inocent. just saying, even when convicted(& he wasnt), it's not always true
yea and being "proved" innocent (especially a filthy rich(ish) mega celebrity) doesnt necessary make you innocent either
so it's between him & God. no need for us to get out our jump to conclusions mats

My post was not meant racist at all. I just expected that MJ's accomplishment would be discussed here in a different way. And I didn't want to attack any person on this board! I just thought sharinglungs would be different to tabloid press.....

of course not. if the press writes something about such a big celebrity just once, it will follow him/her forever.
as for using the fact that MJ paid $22 million for the first accusations to go away, how about this: what would it have cost him to keep going with all the trials, attorneys, etc? look at what happened the second time - he got ruined and knee deep in depth.
hey i haven't been around here much. i love jackson's music. when i heard he died and how he died i instantly thought of the song "Morphine"
in the begining of the song
"He got flat baby
Kick in the back baby
A heart attack baby "
near the end of the song
"Demerol
Demerol
Oh God he's taking demerol
Hee-hee-hee
Demerol
Demerol
Oh my Oh God it's Demerol
Hee
Oooh"
sorry if this has been pointed out i didn't read all 8 pages of this thread.
i really want to some metal band turn his ''morphine'' to a rock song (it still rocks tho)
off the wall is such a underated track
I don't think it's underrated at all man, millions of people love that song, and the "of the wall" album is cosidered a classic.
He's gonna be buried without his brain so no doubt it will be on eBay in a few months.
what the fuck? why without his brain?
because its just that awesome
It's because they are still testing to find out what drugs actually killed him and they are testing his brain. Maybe they will keep it like Einsteins brain.
yeah just heard on the radio. apparantly they can't examine the brain until it's hardened/dried up a bit. yuck.
but yeah, this way maybe we can get him back sometime in the far future. that would be cool. as a pedophile zombie.
THRILLER!
LOL!!! And eww.

we killed him by thinking about him so much
But don't they usually rely on toxicology to determine what drugs were used? This makes no sense. And why are all those stories coming from London? He's not even in London,so why would they get the first hand on this info??

Watching his memorial has been really hard to do. I keep having to leave to go do laundry or change the channel. Way too emotional, and I don't get emotional easily.
He has some really cute kids.
He really does. (even though they aren't biologically his) The whole family part made me too sad, couldn't watch.

Even though he had the melanin in his skin changed, his genetics would still be black so he would have black children, or half cast. I have read various stories that Macaulay Culkin donated sperm for his first born and Macaulay Culkin only agreed to testify on MJ's behalf as his sperm donation wouldn't be brought up in court.

I know Chino was a fan of Micheal's music I wonder if he was gutted about his death????I know I am personally destroyed about the loss of a legend especially in the field of music where he gave so much.... :'(
I'm sure anyone that liked MJ is upset. I was watching Thriller with my daughter the other night, and it made me cry. People that know me can tell you I do not cry easily. But it's this snip from a blog post I found and posted that sums it up:
Quote from: devilinside on Jun 26, 2009, 04:38 PM
but it's hard to put into words. It's not the loss of Michael Jackson that has me so upset. He was one of the overarching symbols of what was probably the best part of my life. And it's the loss of that which has me a bit inconsolable this morning.
I have no problem getting older,in fact,I love my age now. But when people I can remember,(from when I was 4 years old) die,it sucks. Like they've taken a piece of my childhood with them. I have soo many great memories of MJ....for one it was my first concert. Then my brother had this MJ microphone that synced to a radio station, and you could sing and hear yourself on there. haha I still own the Thriller vinyl. I had the earrings, the red jacket, the glove,a DOLL....his stuff was everywhere. And it was cool. My grandmother assisted with the makeup for the Thriller video, and she has a autographed picture of him framed on her wall. (imma steal it though) Just sad.

A new book insists "virtually everybody" around him knew he was gay.
One (lover) met him for liaisons at a grungy motel which was all the debt-ridden star could afford.
And one told Halperin (the author): "The very first time he had sex with me he said, 'The King of Pop's going to lick your lollipop'. I still laugh thinking about that."
Halperin said: "Virtually everybody has told me. Even those who are his most ardent defenders, people who maintain he is innocent of the molestation charges, insist that he is homosexually inclined."
He claims the two lovers he traced were a Hollywood waiter and an aspiring actor, "Lawrence".
"He was very shy. But when he started to have sex, he was insatiable."
Halperin says Jackson was known to slip out to a motel for gay sex in 2007 when he had moved to Las Vegas.
He reportedly fell in love with a burly half-Asian in his early 20s.
Halperin alleges: "He rarely left his residence, but when he did, according to one of Jackson's closest confidants, it was to meet a boyfriend at a run-down motel."
A source tells the book: "He met a construction worker and fell madly in love with him.
"Michael would leave the house in disguise, often dressed as a woman, and would go to meet his boyfriend at a motel that was one of Vegas' grungiest dives.
"Michael was broke. It was all he could afford then."
I have no problem with gay people.

Because "it doesn't matter if you're black or white."
i just saw a few of his videos (you are not alone, bad, black and white) and i have to say, IT SUCKS. Is the whole world mentally retarded, or is it just me? because his music is crap. the lyrics are obviously ghost written by some label "hit maker", they are all pop crapular, extremely repetitious, and strictly pretentious cheese, in no way is his foot shift sliding, crotch grab dancing impressive, and his gay little whelps are beyond annoying
I didn't get it when i was a kid, and now its just plain garbage
all of you mj fans, why don't you go "pop" in the new lady gaga, britney, justin, or mandy moore cd and cry yourselves to sleep
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but you're statement is retarded. Not all people enjoy his music, or anything else about him, but if you fail to see why he was one of the greatest entertainers ever, there's definitely a malfunction in your brain. His voice was out of this world, so was his dance moves, and his stage-persona in general.
that's just as retarded as people who say "fuck The Beatles, they're just boring crappy pop". doesn't really matter if you want to listen to the music or not, if you totally ignore what kind of influence these artsist have been to others and where in the whole timeline of music evolution they acted, your opinion is worth little more than that brown stuff I just squeezed out in the toilet.
Sometimes bands or performers are just there at the right time and place. I don't like The Beatles in the slightest, and their music is extremely boring. However, some of the lyrics were very poetic and creative, and there were artists (and I mean artists in the actual sense of the word) that existed within the band. Were they mindblowing? No, but the world, and the world of music, needed something different and refreshing. So now they have their place in the history of music. The same goes with MJ. Was he brilliant? Not at all, and there were performers that existed before him that were just as creative and eccentric with their showmanship, if not more. However, he came along at the right time and pushed it to the forefront of popular music. Did these bands influence and change music during their era? Most certainly, and for that they deserved to be recognized, but they are not untouchable or examples of perfection. Hell, it's almost as bad as Elvis fanatics puffing out their chests if you mention that you don't like his music. He brought sexuality and swagger to to a mediocre genre, but other bands and artists had already been doing it in the underground for years. What makes these performers significant is that they took existing concepts and made them recognizable in popular culture. It is possible to straddle the fence and tip your hat to these bands/artists without enjoying their music.

hmmmm, this sounds like an interesting sociological experiment if i've ever heard one. From my personal experience and where I think that led, my fatness seemed to lead to lack of ability/general apathy for sports, where I find most people of a competitive nature release that instinct. I consider myself sort of competitive, but my competitive release was always in comedy and music, so that could be some of it. That's always what my dad has been into as well, so that could have something to do with it. That all sounded really up-my-own-ass, huh?

Maybe I was an athlete living in a fat guy's body. I've always loved most sports, and I get competitive with the stupidest things. You should see me when I dominate in beer pong.
dude i love throwin a lil pong. I'm sitting like 6.5 feet from a gigantic beer pong table as I type this. I'm not like anti-social about sports n shit, I like playing and watching everything every now and again, I just tend more towards good conversation, or just never really get bored with it, or something. I dunno, really.
But now you made me want to throw some goddamn ping pong balls into some fuckin plastic cups and get all shitty. I have class tomorrow, damn youse.
