You guys need to check out every album these guys have put out, + Panda Bear's albums.

I just put on MPP after about 4 months (because I played it out so much) and although not my favorite AC album it's the most accessible .

Merriweather is great, no question. I havn't heard anything prior too Sung Tongs, a shame. I have a feeling the further back you go, the more experimental it gets.

That's mostly true, except for the first album (Spirt Can Dance ...which is technically by Avey Tare and Panda Bear, not AC) which is actually as straightforward as they would get until Sung Tongs.

Here Comes The Indian is a wonderful mindfuck.

Everyone is always hyping MPP and saying how much they love Feels. No one ever gives credit to Strawberry Jam though, that's their best album by far in my opinion. Every song on that one is a hit. Their other albums has it's moments too, but there's always songs in between that work more as fillers than actual songs for me.

There's suppose to be this new song that they play live, that was suppose to be on MPP but never made it since they sampled someone whom I can't remember now. Haha, anyway I think I'll be on an upcoming EP though. Help me out here, my memorys bad.

But yeah, check this band out, it's really not just a hype. Maybe MPP though.

I love "Who Could Win a Rabbit?" and "We Tigers".

I've heard MPP on other people's iPods and it's good background music.

I can't find the post where someone recommended me Deerhunter (after I mentioned I liked AC), and yes, it is a nice listen! Very weird, but very rewarding.

Animal Collective - Live @ The Gargoyle (2007-09-24) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOdOVJFM6T8#)

loving this show. before strawberry jam was released they were already blasting merriweather-material. also, listen to that who can win a rabbit-rework. totally rad!

Well, for the most part they're quite terrible live, yes. To much "heys" and "ooohohhs". But that rework is hella yummy.

ben: a shame.

theis: have you heard an album?

Here's an Fall Be Kind-era live, can't remember if I've already posted this or not:

That's really the best one I've seen with them.

Give them another chance man!  I also used to hate them but kept playing their shit and one day it hit me.  They truly are spectacular, but I have to be in the right mood to listen to them. Merriweather Post is one of the most incredible albums ever created IMO.  But its definitely not everyday listening.   I also really enjoyed them when I saw them live.  They can't recreate their music exactly, but they do a pretty legit job.  But I do understand that their music isn't for everyone....

Panda Bear is also great!  Hopefully I'll be seeing them when their new album comes out later this year.

Last year they released ODDSAC, Avey Tare released a solo album and Panda Bears Tomboy just came out. They started rehearsing again in January and played their first show couple of days ago where they play 10 new songs. Fuck I love this awesome band.

Seriously?!! Ten new songs? They just released a 4 song EP, where they all did one song each. It's called "Keep".

This band is awesome.

I am  really enjoying Tomboy. Standouts - Tomboy, Drone, Alsatian Darn, Afterburner
opinions?

Post by: raynor on Apr 20, 2011, 11:09 AM
Yeah I think it' pretty great. I constantly find myself humming stuff from it. I dig schererereazzzsaade, it's so raw. I also think sonic boom did a great job improving the tracks that were already released as singles.

Post by: lostpilot on Apr 20, 2011, 11:34 AM
I really like what he has done with Drone. You just want to float in that sound..
Also, the techno-like ending of Afterburner.
Grooves in Tomboy.. basically, a good job :)
Title: Re: Animal Collective
Post by: raynor on Apr 20, 2011, 12:11 PM
Haha, when I saw Panda last summer he opened with Drone and I had told all my friends that he was pretty great. They weren't to convinced and left pretty much after that song. Actually seeing that song live was cool though, that deep note that comes after the first 30 seconds of just that single note was like a strike to the chest. But I don't really think it's such a good song, fun idea though.

Anyway, heard the new songs lostpilot? Has potential. I had told myself not to listen to them, but now I'm seeing them in Berlin next month, so I think I'm gonna try getting into them.

I don't want to listen. I want to wait out for the album and just listen to the album instead. Because hearing songs live for me is completely different than hearing them in the album with some crazy mix/mastering and audio quality. So I shall wait :)
